It is extremely quiet there. The beach has a lot of russian package tourists. There are no shared baht busses there. I would say it is nice if you simply want a nice time on the beach. Otherwise it may prove to be an inconvenient location for transport, bars, and restaurants. When I stayed there with a friend for 2 nights, without my car, we had a very difficult time getting out at nght. That said, it is a very nice relaxing quiet place to be.

Yes, you can get a condo like that somewhere in Bangkok for the price you say. But in "central Bangkok" (high farrang demand), you cannot get 65-70sqm for 1.5 mil. But I guess it depends on what you consider central Bangkok to be as well. In what I consider central Bangkok to be, that price is not available now. Anyway, View Talay 2 is in a great location and that is why prices have risen so much (high farrang demand). A lot of it is about the ideal location that View Talay 2 is in for a farrang. If you want to find 1.5 million for 60-70sqm you can find it in Pattaya still, but

Agreed! Pan Pan pizza is my favorite in all of Pattaya and Jomtien. My favorite is the plan with tomato sauce and cheese. Very economical and delicious! Anyway, I'm a New Yorker, plain pizza is how we do it.

Maybe at the 500-600B budget range you really should just show up and take a look yourself, as some of the rooms at this price can be questionable. Many are okay, but others are downright old and dingy. If old and dingy hotels are okay with you then go to the Apex Hotel (550B I think) on 2nd rd. :) It is a good central location, rooms sort of passable, pool is small but okay, breakfast (not included) buffet good value.

Next is to find out the actual cost of rat meat. To know if it is cost effective to use rat meat at these street carts or not.

I think people are mostly friendly in the condos around Pattaya. I enjoy talking just a bit with the neighbors. But you would need to make some sort of effort yourself to get beyond the usual hello routine I think. So it is really up to you.

I know one thing is for sure. I love having a car in Thailand. Repairs aren't so expensive either -- that was by biggest worry before I bought.
