He's a guy with a narrow viewpoint of the world and he's a nit picker who thinks by casting dispersions on anyone who's accomplished any thing brings them down to his level.   I've known a few guys

Not sure about that. New drugs come along now and again and detection is always playing catch-up. I think the deterrent that a drug taker can be uncovered retroactively justifies it.

Seriously f*cked up situation. The guy spoke at the Livestrong dinner last night as though nothing happened. He's told the story for so long he doesn't even realize how much he's let people down. More

See Post #98 .... Some good stuff on that 4Corners programme ...

A good programme on Australia's ABC - The World According to Lance

Yes, I heard the start of the programme - got to listen to the rest later. Funnily enough, McQuaid has a lifetime ban from competing in the Olympics, but is now a member of the IOC.

Hi,

IOC and FIFA are dens of corruption so he should do well. First time I heard him(Armstrong) admitting to the doctors of his drug use when he was told he had cancer.

Plenty defending him on this forum tho' :shame:

I had been but no longer. I thought the negative tests meant something. (No bashers please.)

With many others having been found with banned substances in their system I felt the lab's tests

were a good indicator of who doped and who did not. A scheme this elaborate I did not envision.

I don't know how anyone could defend L.A. at this point. The entire sport has been diminished

and it will take a while to recover. It's an awful turn of events, as sporting events like the TDF are

chock full of drama and excitement without all this cheating.

I thought he was clean.

Its so disappointing. Most of us want to believe there is a champion athlete.....who can do amazing things and create new records. But sadly Lance Armstrong was/is a drug cheat.

His teamates have come clean and made admissions.

The sad part is that Lance is still claiming to be innocent.

Seriously f*cked up situation. The guy spoke at the Livestrong dinner last night as though nothing happened. He's told the story for so long he doesn't even realize how much he's let people down. More than a few donors made statements about getting their money back. I don't think any would sue to get it, but they're making the point the cash was solicited under false pretenses. He pushed through asking for continued donations. He stepped down recently. Now, he should walk away. He's forever tainted as a fraud and a cheat. I don't see how he can ever recover his reputation. This isn't like Michael Vick who committed a crime, got released after he served his sentence and went back to work. This guy made all his money and won all his championships under the influence of banned PEDs. It was those "accomplishments" that made his story so great and led to all those donations to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, now known as Livestrong.

Hi,

Well done to USADA for sorting it out. McQuaid and ICU didn't really want to clean up cycling IMO. The problem these days is that so much money is at stake. Armstrong created a lot of coverage and money for cycling so advertisers, media, and everyone else with a vested interest were prepared to look the other way. A few journalists and cyclists tried to tell the truth but were sidelined.

It'll certainly be interesting to hear what McQuaid has to say for himself and UCI later today. The way he attempted to derail the USADA investigation when Armstrong took the thing to court was nothing short of disgraceful. Likewise, Nike. To claim that they've only just realised the guy wasn't clean is stretching things just a bit ... they certainly done their bit in creating and building up the big lie.

We all thought Lance was clean until this "evidence" came out.

Hi,

A few of us got it right. Many got it wrong. :thumbup

Matty,

Much as I would like to admire LA as an athlete I can't get my head round how was always beating the guys who were on some of the most advanced performance-enhancing drugs on the market. I guess I'm a bit too cynical. unsure.gif

Tom, Why do you always have to be negative??? If he were a Brit would you think differently or are you simply a negative person?

I've known a few guys like him and once you get to know them you avoid them like the plague.

The above was my response to a post from Gary and I used the whole post I wrote. I still stand by my comment I made back in 2005.

Armstrong is admitting to it because he wants to continue his athletic career. No real remorse, just more self-serving BS from him.

Now, did he not win a judgement for libel or was it defamation of character? What becomes of that? Will he be countersued?

Tom: I just don't buy into your theory. Lots of riders during the drug scandals were booted from The Tour. Lance Armstrong was not. Someone has to set the new standard for a sport. He did it. He didn't come from nowhere and reduce his times by astonishing amounts. His victories did not increase in time every year; he does just enough to win. He has planned very carefully and refined his training and strategy relentlessly. His team is an intergral component of his individual success.

Merckx and Indurain won 5 times in row, so this kind of dominance is not unheard of in the sport, nor in The Tour de France.

To make such a strong accusation, it seems to me that you should back it up with strong evidence.

Here you go, Mr Mook ... I'm told that the lying, cheating and bullying are side effects of losing a knacker ...

I would believe his apology if he wrote a book the life and times of lance Armstrong and donated the proceeds to charity or something similar.

Doing something good to balance the scales.Talk is cheap. It seems a shame to condemn and banish him for life. :sosad
