Updated cost of living in Pattaya ????

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that as of lately the last few months nobody has been on with a update of the cost of living in pattaya.

As the dollar drops and cost go up I was wondering if this has really affected anyone who has been there for a while ???

With that being said the New punter who is arriving what should he expect to spend monthly ????

You need to be more specific.Everyone has different expectations and life styles.Budgets vary from

70000 a month is 2333 baht a day (30 day calendar)

Certainly no living like a King!

Get a condo for 10000 baht and it works out 2000 a day.

This life while boring at times - could still be better than yr lot at home, at least for 6 months.

At a push, you could probably take two Beach Rd freelancers each day (400 baht each) eat well, gym membership and have money for internet.

No Go Go's though, maybe once a month and beer bar twice a week, but only in no hassle bars.

Still a good life compared to back home in the repressed West.

So really the magic number is about 100,000 baht a month which is about 2500.00 a month US $$

Thats quite bit a money.Hell many folks live fairly well on that in the usa ESP if you have No mortage.

Its just crazy Thailand and the Phillippines is just starting to go up to the point as to where its almost not even worth it anymore.

Pretty soon it will be close to 3 grand a month US $$$$$ At that point vacation is really the only option.

My average "routine" expenditure for the last 12 months comes to just over 78,000 baht per month. Of this 20,000 baht per month goes on rent. I go out on average once every 3 days. I don't feel I'm missing out on much at this.

My total expenditure within Thailand is quite a bit higher but if you exclude funds I gave a girl when her mother was ill in hospital, to pay off the loan from the Government that many families got, it is about 88,000 baht per month. Of this figure, an average of 6,500 baht was spent on escaping Songkran and a couple of visits to Udon Thani.

I have some ongoing costs in the UK - magazine subscriptions, voluntary National Insurance contributions and life assurance polices etc but these don't amount to that much. The cost of my recent trip to Singapore was put on my credit card as was the cost of my return flight for a one week trip back to Scotland in October.

Couple of years ago I lived on 30K for one month and had a good time. I figure it would take 40K to do the same now. On a 100K per month I would live like a minor King. On this amount I'd be able to rent a three bedroom, two bath house and everything that goes along with it. I'm getting close to making the move to LOS and I'll let guys know how I make out.

One factor I'm not sure that everyone takes into account is the cost of return visits back to their home country. I'm at the stage where I cannot any longer spend 12 hours or so cramped up in economy class so it is now my intention to fly either Business Class or if possible 1st Class. One return Business Class flight every 18 months/2 years is within my budget.

Also, I have regular expenditure in the UK of a bit over 6,000 baht though this will be halved when I reach the age of 60. It could actually be reduced by about a third now if the British Governement implement proposals to reduce the number of years National Insurance contributions you need to make to qualify for the full retirement pension.

2000.00 A month US$$ is quite a bit for Thailand.

Goes to show ya how bad the dollar is shrinking up around the world.

Pretty soon it will be cheaper to live in your own host country vs many third world countries ????

i've been to pattaya 7 times now in 2 years and for this visit i tried business class for the first time - and the last. it just is not worth the extra cost. my ticket cost £3800 with quantas. i could have got an economy for £560 and put the extra money to better use. i would never fly with quantas again i must say as, like their partners in crime, ba, the staff are rude and just not very friendly.

But in the US could your budget include shagging two young girls each and every day of the week?

these answers do my box in

"Get a condo for 10000 baht and it works out 2000 a day."

duh... even i can see that it works out at roughly 300baht a day and not 2000bht.

On a budget of 68,000baht a month (1000 uk pounds) you can spend 2200baht a day (minus 300 for room equals 1900 per day)

TRUST ME this is ample and you CAN live like a king on this. I posted a budget making post before and it runs into nowhere near 1900baht a day.

yeah the weekend warriors can spend a fortune in a few hours but just being sensible and all your dreams can come true.

I am just back from a four month trial of living in los. I blew it a bit by staying in party mode for 3 and a half months. Its hard to stay in when you can hear all the bars playing music. Its just too tempting. I wanted to live like an expat, but ended up spending a fortune and drinking every night. Next trip Im going to try to avoid alcohol altogether and only go out every second night.

There just isn't one set cut and dried figure - everybody's style and needs are different -- for example, I just spent February and March in Pats this year and not counting lodging expenses (Dynasty), a figure that will vary widely, I budget about 1500 USD per month. I personally do not drink, but still like to go to bars, and I do not spend alot on food as I avoid the more expensive tourist type of restaurants. I always have baht left over.

I flew business class once. i had to be back in farangland at a specific time, and no economy seats were available. Even if you earn enough coin to do it regular, it seems like going to cost maybe an extra £1000 for a return flight. Sure, a flat bed seat will help you sleep. But so will a few diqazepam/zopiclone in economy. I'd rather bang 60 long times.
ah, but as you get older you can manage the extra £1000, but can't mange the extra 60 longtimes. :clueless

Can't believe one guy paid over £3000 to go with Qantas..... .......

Get discounted biz class seats.....£1400-£1600. Join the frequent flier progams and get the odd free flight. The lounges in the airport are also a nice perk......For sure, if you can't afford it, the extra £1000 will get you more fun in Thailand.

What you have to think of when it comes to living in Patts is that ITS NOT THE SAME AS ON HOLIDAY.

After a while the novelty of great big F*$k off hangovers and yes, even the girls does, wain a little bit.

When on holiday you are out on the lash every night taking 2+ girls a day some days but when you live here and ,especially if like myself, i earn THAI money you simply do not have those options unless you want to be back in shitey blighty with the rain and the fat women in record time.

Give me 2 nights a week and a couple of s/t a week and im a happy man ,because i wake up every morning in Patts and think -i never ,ever , want to go back to England!!! <huh

Sounds good.

SO I guess its safe to assume that Once someome settles in. A true cost of about 1500 baht a day Exculding lodging and or Condo rent would be a solid Number ??????

2000 us dollars equates roughly to 1000 british pounds.

when i left scotland 5 years ago 1000 pounds per month would barely have paid the mortgage on a average house. add on electric , gas , petrol , car payments , food bills a , telephone bills , sky tv, internet , etc etc etc and its 2000 pounds before you can think of going out for a beer at all .

so if its costing on average 70,000 baht per month to live here , rent included , transport included , internet , tv , food , drink , sex and everything else then i reckon your getting a good deal.

very few of us live in a place as enjoyable and exciting as pattaya , so just waking up here every day is a bonus.

I am supporting 3 people. Wife daughter and me. Our average spend is 60K a month when factoring in 50K a year school fees, and other associated living expenses. I own our condo so there is no rent to pay. I go out twice a week and spend around 3K a week on drinks, some farang food etc. I have not allowed a cost for personal recreational activities as that would be up to the individual, amount of viagra taken etc.

The alternative is to make a lot more money and work 5 to 6 days a week back home and after being here 7 months that certainly is not an option that I would consider.

Read his post a little closer before you come unglued. He is saying once you back out lodging of 10,000 baht which equals about 333 baht a day, your cost will be 2,000 baht.
