May be in a position to get some fresh home made cheddar cheese but need to know how much would the average punter pay for this high quality, non frozen cheese.

If i said there would be a posibility to sell it at 250-275 baht for half kilo would there be interest

Even half-decent, mostly tasteless cheddar rot (not mentioning any countries because New Zealanders are sensitive folk) is hellishly expensive because of import duty. I think a GOOD cheddar would fly off the shelves at that price.

Out of interest Joe why would the import duty be so high on cheese ??

Is it because of a lack of milking cows in Thailand ??

All imports into Thailand have a high duty. There are milk cows in Thailand, there is no shortage of milk. I have no idea why they don't make cheese here.

Small market, most Thais think it is disgusting.

Having purchased a wee piece from Carrefour recently I find 275 baht/Lb very attractive.

Welsh rabbit anyone?

I know from here in the states that the Norwegians pay a lot for access to their Brown Cheese, Brunost...

It runs about 2-3x the cost of good Wisconsin/Tilamook Cheddar.

Chivas nailed it. Thailand is a food EXporter, and many decades ago set these high tariffs (typical: 600 per cent) on "luxury" food imports like apples, corn flakes and cheese. They have S-L-O-W-L-Y and A-G-O-N-I-S-I-N-G-L-Y gone down, bit by bit, but it's done item by item (apples are "cheap") and cheese is still on the max-luxury list.

I think there's enough market to make a small cheese-making operation viable but I'm no businessman. Since no one has done it, I guess there's a reason or three.

That's one reason I like Thai food - no chance of it being infected with the stuff.
Well you should be okay with the pizza here then.
