Anyone else noticed a drop in food quality at PBG lately?

Recommended Posts

i feel compelled to reply to this thread.

When I first read all the bad reports I could not believe that the service or the food at Pattaya Beer Garden(PGB) could possibly be as bad as reported.

I have visited PGB on 6 occasions thus far on this trip ..... I CAN CONFIRM THAT THE FOOD SERVED TO ME WAS PERFECT AND THE SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT ON EACH OCCASION SO FAR ON THIS TRIP.

PattayaPete does not know me and I have no reason to promote his place, I find the staff pleasant and good fun and I never get hassled to order another drink until I am ready.

PGB is not somewhere that I go to find a girl because you have to walk all the way across the floor to meet them with all eyes on you and if it does not work out then people lose face in public.

Pete really should have put in a couple of pool tables so that it would be easy to break the ice with the girls.

One complaint that I do have is that the WiFi signal is now very poor and this may cause some customers to give PGB a miss.

It is the best place to chill in the afternoon, have a few drinks and a bite to eat .... prices are fantastic for the location.

I am not sure why people did not contact Pete via pm rather than smearing the reputation of his very good bar.

Keep up the good work Pete ...... but fix the WiFi.

You're such a hypocrite. So it's ok for you to complain about the wifi, complain about how hard it is to meet girls, complain they should have pool tables. But when others say they were served raw chicken in a chicken dish you accuse them of lying or something? What you think bolding your words your food was perfect should discredit what others have said? Let me tell you, I was with the OP that night he was served the raw chicken so I saw it with my own two eyes and I know it ain't no lie. There is no intention of smearing, I have said what I've had to say about the place, and you know what? I'll still be going back to eat at PBG. In fact, I eat there more than any other restaurant. So when you eat at a place so much you'd like to see them improve, or at least not go backwards in quality, and i think this is what the thread is really about. But you just LOVE taking all the credit don't you, Dontcha?

I respect your opinion but there are a lot of forum members who like the food. BTW, I'm one of them.

I agree with Big D, each to there own but IMO, the food is good, will also say also the service is good as well, friendly staff, great setting, relaxed atmosphere, overall one of the best places to ch

You are full of crap. The extra is always left at the table,at least where/when I order a shake."Given to staff"-hilarious.

How dumb to compare leftover cocktail with a shake anyway.

You are kidding right?? Any bar that I have been in around the world where I have seen cocktails/smoothies or shakes made, if there is any excess then it always go to the staff or down the drain. So cos you are paying for 1 glass, you expect 1.1/2 cos there's excess - come on now be real!!

Cheers

I have to agree with Dontcha, I have eaten there a half a dozen times on this trip. Service has been good, at least 3 waitresses come by to take my order, except for the time I order a cheeseburger, all food arrived within 15 minutes of ordering. Teelak says Thai food ok. Timing all over LOS has always been bad. This Morning at Thai resturant telak's food comes out before we get our drinks, and all we ordered was water. The only complaint I had with PBG was the cheese burger was kinda of mushy, I don't if that is typical or I am just used to American beef. I will definately go back 1 more time before I go.

when i did get my food it was ok but everyone else was finished,it sort of messes up an evening when you are sat there just ready to say something to someone,ie staff, who lets face it dont really care much,is it still the case regarding tips that if you leave it in the menu it goes to a collective tip share ,because i have been asked by staff to give directly to them on more than one occasion,i think the only meal not liked there by me was a chicken korma that had sort of square cubes of "chicken",also their korma is not same as uk as its more of a fluid soup in a bowl,so bad choice on my part ,the place is aimed at falang ,uk ,usa ,euro ,so maybe shoot a little straighter thats all

Ate at PBG twice on my recent trip , food quality is ok , service times can vary greatly but this inst unique to PBG, in Thailand quite often a person who has ordered 3 dishes has all of his arrive and has eaten before the rest of the parties entrees arrive.

The food inst the highest standard around , however for the location and price to me it still represents very good value for money and a pleasant dining expereince.

Pattaya Beer Garden provides good food and great ambiance at a fair price. One thing I really like is how friendly the service staff is; that's important to me.

That said, PBG is not a place for goumet food and the price level need to support gourmet food.

135 baht pitchers of Tiger with an ocean beeze compare quite favorably with the sweaty beer bars near the PBG entrance.

I'm a low budget expat who mostly eats delicious 30 baht meals from ma and pop street stalls. But PBG is a great splurge for me that won't break the bank.

I stopped by the Pattaya Beer Garden last night for dinner. I ordered dinner and it took 8 minutes from the time we ordered for our dinners to be served. Our food was served hot and was very tasty. We arrived around 9PM and the bar was very busy. Small but a nice selection of free lancers.

We moved on to the FLB where MM was having his birthday party. The beer was cold and the band was hot. The FLB was very busy with lots of guys having a good time.

My one criticism is to many items on the menu. IMHO Pete could knock off 33% the menu and the kitchen would do a better job of getting the food out in a timely manner.

my only knock on the Beer Garten is that they changed they mix of the music...now there's more hip hop stuff and music being played that I never heard before...

seemed everytime I went in I saw the same video of some black dude helping a little turtle cross the road, singing to the heavens with his arms outstretched :chogdee ...what happened to the Beatles and the Stones...and fuck Guns and Roses. :thumbup

They play Amy Winehouse's "love is a loosing game" = brilliant.

I wish they would play more hip hop and soul, maybe something like Snoop dog/Dr Dre's "next episode" and Alica Keyes/JayZ "Empire state of mind"

The beatles are one of the most boring bands of all time, a good English band would be " The animals"

Other boring stuff: Mozart, Westminster Cathedral, 1066, Winston Churchill and George Washington. The problem is that if you didn't have all that boring stuff, you also wouldn't have Amy Whineabout.

When catering as many nationalities as PBG does, it is necessary to have a large menu.

In Pete's earlier respond to this topic, he did tell why kitchen/service had problems. Cutting down items on menu would only "help" by loosing few customers, who came to eat their favorite portion of food and found it has been removed from menu.

Problems were high season related and i am sure they will be fixed before next one arrives.

Whenever you watch Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares (I know, he's a bit much) the first recommendation and one of the main problems is these small restaurants have 800 items on the menu and can't cook 20 of them well. First order of business turfs most of the menu and they resume with a menu of 20 things they can make. 20 may be too little but many items are a problem operationally so it appears.

I plan to patronize it as part of my patronize board members/ business etc., and I like the idea of finding freelancers not on a beach per se.

This post may no be entirely relevant because last week I had a BLT in the afternoon and not the evening. That cannot be compared with a full meal. The place was busy but my food came promptly. I do like a good BLT and I was actually impressed that it was much better that one I received several months ago. I should add that I would NOT put up with under cooked chicken.

Used to like a meal in the PBG once week usually. The last meal I had wasn't so good in June. My GF said 'mai alloy' !!

Then my son and his wife ate there in October and it gave him a very bad bout of gastroenteritis. Just about spoilt their stay in Pats. He is absolutely sure it was from the PBG.

The last time I was poisoned was from King Seafood and I have never ate their since.

It would be bad news if the food has deteriorated in the PBG as its well run and a great location.

Not trying to bust your balls here, but I'm curious. Was this actually diagnosed? Rotavirus is quite rare in Thailand and should be taken seriously - but you can get some pretty serious gut and stomach stuff that is NOT gastroenteritis, and even worse, so I'm just wondering. Usually people just get boring old "food poisoning" which is about as bad as anything I ever want to get.

I went the PBG last August with my wife ,son & nephew.I had the fish'n'chips the wife had some thai fodder & the kids ordered a burger each: the waiter suggested that one burger sliced in two would be enough for the kids ,we agreed .When the food arrived (all at the same time) the burger was in two halves & on seperate plates ...nice touch ,I thought. The wife asked for a "doggy bag" as we didn't eat everthing ,not a problem ,all nicely packaged up for us .Good service ,good food & great location. I like it .

It was cured by an anti biotic that was dispensed as a treatment for gastroenteritis. So I presumed it was reasonable to identify that as the cause.

Same thing happened to me from King Sea Food. In any case the problem in adults is mainly caused my Norovirus not Rota virus (normally confined to children). It may have been just a simple bacterial infection (food poisoning) in either case the symptoms are the same so I am told.

I am well aware of the difference between a viral infection and a bacterial one but you will see printed on many packets of anti biotic that they are treatment for gastro enteritus. Your guess is as good as mine.

Last time I ate there was September but when I am in Patts its about 5 times a week. I like the food, commend the service and enjoy the ambience and have never had a twinge of any sort from the food. Took Thais there last time and they all were fine with the food as well.
