What is more expensive in Pattaya

Recommended Posts

A room at the Hilton..........

Don't know about Hilton, but I've stayed at the 4 star Marriott Renaissance in BKK (5 star really, but still too new for that rating) for less than I paid for a drive up motel Marriott in a suburb of San Francisco.

I can't understand why dairy products ( cheese, sour cream, cottage cheese.... not the TESCO plastic made fruit flavoured yoghurts ) are so expensive .... maybe the milk brands import only milk powd

Sour cream, cottage cheese, honey, pickles are local products made for farangs... interesting to see the high prices of the russian meals, where the ingredients are really cheap... a funny trick.... t

So... my question still have no answers... I can only guess, maybe because the products are targetted the LDOP farangs... just like the wonton soup ( 25 baht ) vs. the wontons served without the so

SF is exceptionally expensive. I believe I stayed at a Hilton in London for less than the prices we were discussing for Pattaya. Blackpool too!

Mickey D's double burger meal is $7.95, that includes fries and medium drink.

Dunno know where your buying your macca's here in Thailand but in Pattaya I can get a double Big Mac set (XL Coke & XL Fries) delivered to my house for $6.70 (USD).

Vitamins and supplements are usually high priced where available. I quizzed a pharmacist why,and they said that demand is very low as Thai people don't use them.

Cosmetics (apart from tooth paste for some reason) , decent clothing, beer, supplements are more expansive in LOS then in Germany. But as long as pussy is tastier and cheaper then back home I dont mind that.

There are plenty of things more expensive in Pattaya than in the UK and it makes me think, why? All kinds of taxes in the UK are much more than in Thailand. I can buy clothes cheaper in the UK than I can in Pattaya. Of course you can buy cheap clothes in Pattaya but they tend to fall apart after a few weeks or the t shirts shrink to half their size. Personal hygene products I have always found expensive in Thailand as well and electronic equipment like laptops,TV's, DVD etc. 2nd hand cars are well over priced there. I can pick up a good second hand car in the UK for probably half of what you would pay in Pattaya for the same thing. If you want to buy utter crap that falls apart then Pattaya wins hands down.

Pattaya wins when it comes to the price of hotel rooms, food and the women.

That's about all it takes for a good vacation. Who gives a hoot about T-shirts?

From what I gather, the McChicken is on the "dollar menu" at McD's. The McChicken "set" (fries, coke) is $2.55 USD.

Anyone from the USA (or Canada) able to provide a price for a McChicken with fries and soda?

About $7.30 with taxes for the McChicken, so THB 220 or so.

A friend runs a pharmacy but has prices locked in by head office,

I inquired as to the price of real Cialis and she said it was 2500 for 4 but would "give" it to me for 2100.

Thats $17.50 a pill

seems to me I got 30 pills in Canada for around $330 or $11.00 a pill.

Is that true? Things like toothpaste (Sensodyne), blades (Gilette Mach 3), shampoo (Head and Shoulders), mouthwash (Listerine) all seem to be currently cheaper in Tesco Lotus than they are in UK supermarkets. Likewise the Samsung EH5000 LED TV is 14k Baht in Tesco Lotus and 300 quid upwards in UK - those aren't selected items, simply what I was able to price without going to the shops. I'm sure there are lots of individual items that are more expensive in Thailand but I'm not convinced that it's true, one way or the other, across a whole range of goods. The car/truck market and flight tickets are obvious exceptions.

One thing I have noticed is that KFCs in tourist areas tend to be (a lot) more expensive in tourist areas than in locations aimed at the local market.

It is just the way I found it. I am not saying that everything in Thailand is more expensive,it is that with all the taxes in the UK I cannot see why many things in Thailand are on par or more expensive than the UK. I used to trawl around the electrical stores and generally found the stuff in them more expensive. Hygiene products were probably on par or cost more. Laptops were well over priced. You can buy a branded LCD TV in the UK for as little as £200 for a 32" now,are they cheaper in Thailand?

Again, just taking what's currently available in Tesco Lotus, both Samsung and Sharp 32" flatscreen TVs are available for under 10k Baht (200 quid) and Alpha for under 7k Baht (+/- 145 quid).

Fair enough. It was just my view on what I saw on many trips to Thailand. I have not been there for a while so prices seem to have dropped a fair bit on TV's at least.

I'm not even sure laptops are overpriced. I recently bought a Samsung RV418 i3, 4gb ram with Windows Ultimate (OK copy) for 18,000 baht. I doubt if it's any cheaper in the UK.

I do not think they sell them in the UK but you can get the newer model RV520 with 4gb ram, 2.2 ghz processor,500gb hard drive,webcam,bluetooth,dvd/rw,HD graphics etc and a real copy of Windows 7 64bit Home Premium for £359.

You can pick up many very good laptops in the UK for under £300 now.

Quality furniture

(For sure you can buy shiiite at modest prices, but anything half comparable to back home quality is f'kin ruthlessly priced)

Well of course having copy (read free) operating system will knock the price down, but I think a home premium legitimate will only add about 5000 baht. I added Office too for 2800 baht.I certainly paid more for my new Vaio in Thailand, than your 18k, but it was cheaper than something similar in the UK...they have 20% VAT over there!

Unless you compare like for like with IT products, it's difficult to make a viable comparison. One exception to the rule though is Macs. Much cheaper in Thailand and the VAT is reclaimable if you're a tourist taking it out by air. Also, no worries about the OS ...

Well just taking the Apple 21.5 inch Imac from your post that is 39,900 baht which I make about £800 off the top of my head. Here it is selling in the UK for £609.76. So that is nearly £200 cheaper than Thailand an it has an extra 4gb of ram.

Ipad 2 16gb wifi from your post in Thailand 13,500 baht which is about £270? In the UK the 32gb model is £242.

Your link is to a US-based online retailer. They also deliver to Thailand. :clueless

The Mac prices I posted are what you'll pay at a Mac Authorised reseller in the UK or Thailand. :thumbup
