I think someone posted this before but if you are changing money in the airport Kasikorn in the basement (next to the skytrain entrance) is the best rate, all other booths offered 43.41 today yet Kasi

Looks like the £ to THB is back down to the late 46's. Odd because the sterling has been strong lately. Anyone know what and where the best rates are in town at the moment?.   woot! my 1000th post.

Pretty much any foreign-issued Debit Card - as long as you use an Aeon ATM.

Having trouble sifting out the Pattaya ATMs from the Central East/Chonburi/Cash dispenser listing there Tom.

Two Tesco Lotuses on Pattaya Nua - is that it?

Call me cheap but 150 baht several times a trip is just that..... I'd rather have the money in my hand..

Anyone got eagle eyes to find the other ones?

For Aeon ATMs you can use Tesco/Lotus on Nua (2 machines by the bank)

Or one going to the toilet in Big CXtra Mall.

In-front of Homeworks on Sukhumvit (adjacent to Big C South near Sukhumvit /Tai corner)

Not sure about Tesco South but there is one in Harbour Mall in Laem Chabang

You can always go into a bank with your card and passport to avoid the 150 baht fee.

Make sure you ask to have the transaction in Thai Baht not the currency where the card was issued.

Also, ask if it’s OK just to bring a photocopy of your passport next time.

Never heard of WSA Money exchange but i very much doubt it will give you close to 50 Baht to the £1.It would be financial suicide for them when the Live Trade rate for cash is only 46.06, meaning they would be on a massive loser.Whoever you heard this from i suggest is misinforming you. Vasu and Super Rich are two of the best cash exchanges in Bangkok from my previous experience.

Mondays exchange rate in non bank affiliated exchanges on sukhumvit were:

49.45 for £50 notes

49.35 for £20 notes

And I have a receipt to prove it for all those that continually argue you cant get better rates for higher denomination notes in money exchanges.

Airport was 46.17 and the kasikorn bank who used to beat everyone else by 2bht next to the skytrain entrance has now reverted to matching everyone else :(

On the subject of rates. I noticed today that some of the exchanges had the $Australian in the 24+ range. Last year it was par with the $US for a while and other than the ruble this must be one of the steepest falls for a long while and surely must affect the Australian tourist trade.

Good to see the pound creeping back up, hope it continues, but I bet the Russian tourists are feeling it at the moment, with the rouble halving in value.

I have been hanging on for a bank TT rate above 50 for a while now, a few short lived nose above the water tests but nothing sustained.

No sympathy for the Russians personally.

Yeah will keep fingers crossed, as for the Russians, I do have some sympathy, especially if she's blonde with long legs and big tits, they can't help it that their President is a mad ex KGB control freak.

Welcome to the board Jerboa,

The rouble has had a slight rally in event days, up to .52 from .48, which considering they had parity two years ago is quite a hit. I see sterling is holding tight , not sure if the recent ( today) news of a successful Greece bailout will have any effect on sterling.

We're getting hit hard with sterling to peso rates as well, down to 67 from mid 70's last year. I'm no financial whizz, but I think it's strong Asian currencies rather than weak western ones fuelling this. Then again I am probably wrong!.

Regarding note denominations, I've always steered clear of £50 notes, as a few years back there was a rake of counterfeits which made some exchanges reluctant to take them ( in the RP anyway ), so I've always stuck to 20's. Does anyone know if it's a better rate on £50 notes in town?.

Yeah you usually get a better rate on £50's, and easier to carry, I've not had any problems with them before, hasn't the Bank of England issued a new 50 recently, because my granny had to dig out all her old ones from her mattress.

Not just the tourists. A Russian friend told me last week that food prices in Moscow have risen by 20%. I thought Russia was self-sufficient in everything that matters, but it seems they were neglecting agriculture while they could export energy.

The really frustrating thing about FX rates is the Thai baht.

In the last few days the NZ Dollar has broken records against the Australian Dollar and yesterday the Euro. It is however stubbornly low against the baht. For resilience, it seems to me the baht takes a lot of beating. I like to buy baht progressively when I am at home but it really is a pain seeing all these gains against some currencies and seeing it dragging its heels against the baht.

The Baht to the pound is way down at the moment around 46. I have already lost £100 before I even get there. Oh well, I will have to sit outside 7/11 drinking beer all day :bhappy

I noticed it suddenly dived down at 0600 GMT yesterday, the reason was the £ dropping (rather than baht rising) as it also fell v US$.

It seems to have climbed back up later in the day. Rates aren't changing on the Thailand Bank websites at the moment as it is Songkran holiday but I keep expecting improvement on the £. What with an improving economy and discovering oil in England! Must be that crappy Euro holding us back, or the fear of Labour getting elected. Do right by the country and vote the UKIP in GE!!! :D

And for that great investment genius atlas…..? I lent a mate 55,000 pounds in chunks, (starting in Jan 2013) of 10,000, and subsequent chunks of 5000 and 40,000 @ 6% on a handshake …..He's sold the house he used it to build and paid me the money back today as I knew he would. I don't quite reach 5,000 pounds in interest. Better than sitting in a bank but as that money was basically from a floating account I would have made more from transferring it here when we were around 53 baht…… My other monies are all tied up so now is the opportunity to do so at 47 baht to the pound. You can see I lose a couple of grand……ce la vie!

"If you've got your health and enough money for tomorrow you're a millionaire…….."

And I did a mate suffering with prostate cancer a good turn…….Glad he made it!!

Well all I can say is that I hope that you are taking Russian language lessons or you will have no one to talk with!

One of the changes that I have made in the last couple of years in Pattaya is to do bit of 'Pre Loading'in that I never would drink until it was going out time at night. I do however admit that since moving to the Soi Buakhao area there are so many places to drink on the cheap. Don''t get me wrong. I am not drinking to get drunk but I have discovered the joys of watching the Pattaya circus at sunset, motor cycle madness, chatting up the girls on their way to work and just getting a gentle buzz on. IMHO this is a lot better than sitting outside a 7/11

…………………………………….

For me 2 beers and I buzzz…….3 and I ZZZZzzz.

Useless I know!

This is why I don't socialize with drinkers and why shag at lunchtime.

Back slightly above 49 baht/£ now,

We have been trending up gently for 2 weeks now.

Election results (May 7) should provide some direction, depending on coalitions formed or whatever.

My trigger level to send some money over here is 50+... could I be premature?

I would have thought that the results of the election either way will have already been factored in.

I heard recently that the general trend is for the pound to dip after an election….. so now might be a good time. ??

The trend regarding any of my financial advice is that its a safer bet to do the opposite.

So they already know the election result and have factored them in?

No point going ahead then with all that balloting nonsense then!

Sure the markets will try and get a jump in, but remember last time, the situation was very fluid, even to the point of who would be running the country after results were in. Didn't we nearly have a coalition of the losers?

Like you I feel I have undue influence on exchange rates, last time I transferred the £ plummeted as I slept and my cash was 'in transit'....

I like 50.... easy to calculate things, like shaving gel costing me £6 here.... but I make it up on other service orientated bargains..
