After reading stories about Indians in Thailand it appears we have a poor reputation. I'm a 28 year old Indian American planning a trip to Thailand.

I am frugal. But not an excessive negotiator, nor do I plan on bringing a herd of friends to harm unsuspecting Thai girls (I'm coming alone). Despite this I feel there will probably be some hurdles to overcome to break the negative stereotypes with the bar girls.

They say a man's dress confer's his status. Do you guys think I should pack my suit and plan to wear it when pursuing bar girls, or would this just be seen as foolish in the Thai heat?

Any other tips you have for me (to aggressively break stereotypes before they have a chance to do harm) would be appreciated!

You Indians need a culture change. One of my good mates here is a Malay indian,so I have met many indians and find them often delightful. He once told me 50% of Indians are good and 50% are total rubbish/assholes.

I am selling a car here at the moment, 4 Indians have called, everyone of them opened with"what is the lowest price you can give me?" One was so aggressive on the phone I told him-" look I refuse to deal with you, bye."

I was involved with a business some years ago that offered trade services. Many providers refused to deal with indians. In the end we refused to quote jobs for Indians as well, they just wasted the companies time, wanting an absurdly low price and rarely transacting.as an eg say a job was worth $2000 they would offer $1000. Once I told one of the guys to quote a $2000 job for $ 700 to an Indian to see what happened. He offered $500.That was enough for us.

changing your clothes won't make a scrap of difference. Its the attitude that sucks.

A suit would certainly get attention but would be a bit extreme. I would suggest long pants and collared shirts (not t-shirts). When asked, you are from America; the girls will give you a blank look if you say United States.

On the subject of buying drinks for the girls (lady drinks or LDs), if you have invited a girl to sit with you or think you might be interested in her, go ahead and buy her a drink. After the second drink, you are not increasing the chances of her going with you. A lot of us will not respond positively to an unprompted request to buy a drink.

Mostly, be yourself and treat the girls as people.

When you say "You Indians need a culture change" are you talking specifically to me or someone else?

Absolutely he should not be talking of you.......'Indians' from the UK, Oz, USA etc are completely a different thing to the ones developing a bad rep here in Thailand.....those out from India itself.

Go into any bar or Go-GO here and behave like an American and you will be fine, more than welcome etc etc.

If some place tries to bar you, offer the doorman 100 baht, they will know pretty quick you are not an Indian. :D

I won't even mention some of the stereotypes one gets for the 'Indians' coming here for holidays..... they do not apply to you.

On your first trip to Pattaya keep reading the forums and when you get there try to fit into the scene. Without doubt it is the roaming packs of Indian Indians that give the race a bad rep. Just go and enjoy.

EDIT: On second thought, not smart enough to avoid foot in mouth syndrome.

What many of you don't understand in the Thai culture... ( not the spoiled by the westeners ) If a work worth 2000 they will ask 3000 and settle on 2000.... everybody is happy... Than coming the westeners ( and more the stone brained japans, koreans ) and nod for anything was asked... is it a wonder they get the greed ? No...

Don't think the suit will make much of an impression if at the end of the night you take a lady to your 3000b/month room.

That is a point. You could use one of the upmarket short time rooms, but at 28, you should be thinking long time.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea that bargaining pussy was part of the "Thai culture". BTW ever thought of understanding Japanese culture or at least up to the point to stop calling them "stone brains"?

Now you know... so use the useful info....

The japanese culture is founded to accept any bullshit the authorities says...the brain dead ant behaviour... see the kamikazes... and the result: the ultra violent behaviour with the POWs... the mental wank of their ant attitude frustrations...

Gabor, that's pathetic. You should be ashamed.

It is not pathetic just to prove that his so called "silver spoon education" is a lie. I'm afraid that it is the main reason he's unable to distinguish right from wrong. Kind of sad but nobody would press the issue if he would stop insisting. Sadly, his character does not let him do that.

Just proves my suspicion that you know as much about Japanese culture as you know about your own 'claimed' trade to be a cinematographer. I am amazed that you have a nerve to talk about Gobbels and sensorship while having such stupid brainwashed views about the Japanese.

They allegedly aren't popular to do business with in the UK either. Parts of Zaris's post are what you hear and experience.

Well I must admit to having heard that too, mainly in the USA.

But I stand by the fact that one can hardly relate ones brought up in Western countries to those flying straight in from India and entering GGBs in groups of 6-12 persons.

It took MM above to make me realise I was talking to the same guy researching a 2000-3000 baht/month room, and I now feel like keeping quiet.

On the plus side, Indians in the UK are mainly hard working. I feel sorry for some of the younger ones who's life is totally controlled by their fathers.

And Indian woman are hot.

What puzzles me though, is how Brit Indians, born in the UK, seem to drive so poorly? Is it genetic!!!

Hi,

I like Indians. I find the tailors amusing. My other thread shows that Indians run some of the biggest companies in the World.

Well spotted.

There's been a few of these.

What I resent when it happens is the time and effort wasted by the most helpful and decent bms.

There's another one I feel may have gotten away with it recently.

So simple life plans on riding his bike from his 3K/month apartment in a suit to a gogo. I smell a windup.

Wo told you ever about my silver spoon education ??? I was grown up on the streets and parties....my university in Moscow was more a brothel and a blackmarket, than a artistic university....
