I USED to be a Loyal UAL customer. They keep improving their frequent flyer program by reducing benefits.

They are all getting bad. My wife has been reading everywhere that experts are recommending using up you miles ASAP. It is only going to get worse....

I've often read where people fly without checked luggage. Can't imagine doing that myself. On the other hand, I often read about people with multiple bags checked. Can't really fathom that either.

One big bag checked as well as a carry on and computer bag as well as another smaller purse type bag is more than enough for me even for a 2 month holiday. I don't mind the airlines charging other people money if it keeps my ticket price down. First class helps subsidize economy after-all. BTW, United sucks but not as much as American.

I've pretty much decided not to check any luggage next time I travel. They always seem to lose it anyway.

That hasn't happened to me for donkey's years.

Mind you the last time was on a flight via the USA.

I get exhausted with all the walking and security at transit so am disinclined to carry much other than the backpack with laptop.

I've had delayed bags 3 times in the past 5 years (12 trips?). Always outgoing rather than returning which is a bit strange. Once I could directly attribute it to American customs at Pearson (YYZ). They didn't have enough staff so my flight was delayed as no one (except me) boarded in time. I barely made my connection in SFO but my bags didn't make it.

I have to agree that it is time to burn miles up.

just as well to fly cheap from west coast.

only 25k round trip to there and at least asia base air lines give better in flight service.

will be carry-on here on out. can have it clean cheap there.

Using mileage now is a great idea. If you can find a flight available with mileage. I use my Delta miles for as much as I can and then pay the rest. Not to thread f**k to badly but does anyone know why flights are so expensive now. Midwest USA to BKK is now $1500 or more. If I cannot get it for under $1200 I do not see LOS as being a cheap destination anymore.

It is summer vacation season in the US. Flight prices typically rise now as they do at other Holidays.

Just booked for Oct. Toronto to JFK to Narita to Bkk for $900 USD on JAL. Never seen it so low. Toronto to New York and back is usually $350 or so on it's own.

Sacramento - BKK with a 24 May departure for 5 weeks was US$1080 on UA. Per kayak.com - 05 July departure on UA for 5 weeks is $2071.

Cheapest 05 July departure is China Airlines at $1825 with flight times of 25 & 39 hours :scared:

As VPI78 said, it is seasonal. Fares start going up the 3rd week of May, peak in July or August, and go right back down the 3rd week of September. They go up again for the Christmas season and down again the first or second business day of the New Year. They pop up again for a few days just before Chinese New Year and then go down again as soon as it is over, and stay down until the 3rd week in May.
