I am looking to buy a carry on suitcase , I had a wander round Central Samsonites were between 6000 and 18000 , but I only need it for one trip so will get a cheap thing from the market... As I was wandering through I saw the Porshe shop they had luggage, plain round neck tee shirts were 5000 baht, so I assumed the luggage would be expensive.....

But not that expensive , a carbon carry on case 399,000 baht and a full size one for the hold 499,000 baht unreal, the sales guy came over and I asked to confirm the price, he confirmed and added they have a lifetime guarantee..

And people whine about the price of lady drinks....

At 60 years old I am not sure a lifetime guarantee for half a million baht suitcase is going to sway me. There is a second hand shop across Hwy 36 where Japanese leftovers are brought by containers, I think I will shop there first. $13,000 for a suitcase, in Pattaya!

This town is funny, a day hardly goes by where you don't see or hear something amazing...

I wondered who would buy one ? Even if you had the money of Bill Gates I would suggest a person would feel better buying £400 Samsonite and giving the rest to a needy cause...

But who knows I will never have the 100s of millions you need to afford the £7500 carry on case

I knew that I was going to retire here in Thailand. When I was traveling back and forth, I had a fairly large hard sided Samsonite. My last trip back to the States, the luggage handlers managed to crack it. It served me well for a number of years so I decided that I wouldn't try to collect on the lifetime warranty. I started to research luggage and as a result, a brand of soft sided called Travelpro came out on top. I bought a complete set, a large one, a medium large one, a wheeled carry on and and a simple small carry on. Other than the small carry on they all had wheels. When I got home, I looked them over carefully. I was surprised to see the hidden tags said made in Thailand.

I passed a rather large sized luggage shop in Bangkok. I stopped in and asked the English speaking salesman about Travelpro. He told me that he couldn't get them because they were made for export only. I still have the set. They have held up well. I broke the handle on one and the rubber came off the wheels on another. I wrote Travelpro and told them about my problem. They asked no questions and sent me replacement handles and wheels. This is a good company and they stand behind their products.

Just what "lifetime". I have some expensive suitcases I got in USA, Andiamo brand. Have had them for over 10 years now and lots of mileage on them. First time they fixed the zippers free, next time charged for shipping. Now they need repair again but the companies life ended so no free repairs.

Samsonite make a good case. Mine's over 20 years old and still going strong. It's a "shell" type case which I got in Oman which was secondhand when I brought it, albeit unused.

Ten grand for a suitcase is slightly ostentatious , but much like these celebs and other people with loads of cash poncing around with Louis Vitton gear at LHR, I suppose it's each to their own. That's capitalist greed for you lol.

If you want soft sided luggage, I doubt that you will find better than Travelpro. They are not cheap but are also not stupidly expensive. I have had no problems with zippers or anything else except for wheels and handles. The wheels and handles were promptly replaced by Travelpro. The rubber on the wheels on one and a handle on another. Travelpro sent two sets of wheels and two handles with no questions asked. I rarely use the largest one but the carry on and the other two pieces have had a hard life and are holding up very well. One thing I really like is that they send straps that you can use to strap one bag piggyback to another and only pull one.

This is a very common problem, with wheeled luggage at any price range, replacing the new wheels for the broken ones can be cost prohibitive, when it happens to me I just buy new luggage, my experience with baggage handling, loading in and out of planes, and wheeling around airports you can get 15 - 20 trips before some thing happens, my experience, time to buy new when the wheels lose their rubber

The wheels are made of hard plastic with sort of like a fat rubber band around them. Just the rubber failed. They still rolled OK other than the clack, clack on tile floors. Travel Pro sent me two complete sets free of charge and with quick service. As far as the handle, it looked like it got snagged on something during handling. It pulled out one end and I was able to repair it like new myself. Somewhere I still have the extra handles that they sent me.
