BA - Global IT outage

Recommended Posts

"It's affecting all flights globally - BA aircraft landing at Heathrow are unable to park as outbound aircraft unable to leave to vacate the gates. As a result, passengers are unable to leave aircraft, and many have been stuck for hours.

I've found this link on another forum:

Rumours are a cyber attack. Don't expect any help from BA customer service either, some people have been trying on the phone for ages and they're just not answering.

** Edit **

This is a quote from a BA employee on flyertalk. Seems that BA's treatment of their staff is coming back to haunt them.

"From what I can tell, literally everything has stopped working. I am on a day off today but have been called twice to see if I can go in.

Unfortunately it's a 'no' from me as I'm going up North today to make good my escape from BA.

From what my colleagues said on the phone we have lost our engineering compliance system as well which is not good! Most people are unable to log in to the network at all, from home my email, the intranet etc is unavailable. We aren't sure at this stage if these have been urged off to help with the fix or if they are also broken. The IT in the office has always been flakey at best but I don't think anyone expected this!"

A power supply issue is the excuse scrolling by on the banner on Sky News.

Mind you, wouldn't be the first time BA told lies wrt flight delays!

They hoped to run a near normal schedule from Gatwick yesterday so hopefully today even better.

Off their website.

Flights on Sunday 28 May

At Gatwick, we are running a near-full operation.

At Heathrow, we are aiming to fly all our long haul services - but the knock-on effects of Saturday's disruption are causing delays and some short haul cancellations.

Our terminals at Heathrow are still congested so we ask that you do not to come to the airport unless you have a confirmed booking for today and know that your flight is operating.

Thought you normally went via Manchester......I would only use LHR if I was flying in and out of T5

Owned by the Spanish, only interested in trying to make money for shareholders and not looking after its customers. Gonna cost them £100,000,000-£150,000,000 million quid this fiasco, serves em right.

I have been to BKK from LHR over 30 times and it has never entered my head to use BA.

If everyone claims the correct compensation it could Bankrupt BA. Over 6 hours delay costs them 600 Euros EACH !!

Suffer, you bastards.

The routing we got for this trip was MAN-DOH-BKK and return BKK-DOH-LHR-MAN at a cost of £339 each. The price was too good to turn down and also meant we are not stuck in DOH waiting longer for flight to MAN. Also we get 2 Qatar A380s on way back rather than suffer being cramped on a 777 to DOH then a Nightmareliner to MAN.

The LHR-MAN is a QR codeshare on a BA flight... :( :( :(

Everything is back to normal apparently. Bottom line is that BA bollocksed it up and need to be held fully accountable, one of the busiest weekends of the year and they have a global outage.

We may never know the real reason, whether it was a cyber attack or lack of redundancy measures in case of an IT failure, if it was the former then shame on them for not spending more on IT security, if the latter then shame on them for trying to skimp and save money by not having adequate measures in place.

Maybe another nail in the coffin for BA.

The power companies involved at suppling power around the area where their data centre is located are now saying there was no power surge/outage in the supply line at the time BA claim. As you say butch, don't think we will ever know the real reason.

Their share price has dropped 5% today wiping millions of their value.

From How Can a ‘Power Surge’ Bring an Airline to a Standstill?

"Alex Cruz, British Airways' chief executive, said the surge was so strong that it knocked out the airlines' systems across 170 airports in 70 countries."

Perhaps he was quoted out of context in the article, but if he wasn't the quote that comes to mind is "better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt".

BA will opnely and brazenly lie through their teeth to get out of any situation. They think an email saying 'Sorry' solves it all.

Its also a fact that the UK Authorities ignore pretty much all complaints about BA.

They should be stripped of the name 'British' and renamed Rubbish or Gay.

My sentiments too......

So if I get a power surge here in Pattaya, my sister's TV in Manchester might go down because I sent her an email once.

I am saying nothing....I am flying out in 2 weeks and don't want to tempt fate....

Me too, but heading South. Don't have to worry about BA and their issues!

BA are getting a real hammering here in the UK from the media. They've done away with free food, squeezed more pax in economy by changing seat configuration and now this issue raises its head again. Coupled with problems in Europe regarding new security procedures, it seems that actually getting to or from your holiday destination is more stressful than being at work!.
