Spankys VIP X Pat Card
jacko replied to spankys bar soi diamond's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
More than 50% differential in there mate! -
No, I think it is just the 'grass is greener syndrome'..... I live well out of town and often hanker after the points you made.... Now I can walk to the beach the supermarket and the bars in 10-minutes and I do not need to use my bike. And perhaps more importantly can be back 'home' quite quickly. I think living central can be entertaining, like being at a chimps tea party, but after a while you may tire of it, although it sounds like you have found a good place. The neighbours can be a major factor as you found out in your first place...... and you may find those undesirables both in and out of town. Let us see how you feel after a year or two, and a karaoke opens on each side of you! How old are you..... ?

UNIXX condo in Pattaya for SALE. 27sqm (transfer of contract)
jacko replied to mataleo's topic in The Market
From what you say there (Gallery condo) it is not clear whether the condo was Thai quota or foreign quota. Transfer of ownership can be readily achieved if it is a foreign quota condo. If it is Thai quota, well it can be done quite easily IF the foreigner already had a company. Otherwise the transfer would be complicated by the requirement to create a 'company' in his name etc etc. What lawyers manage to achieve here sometimes may not be in the best interest of his clients, rather his/her interests. As one who is trying to sell you need to inform potential buyers as to what is actually on sale. -
Isn't Rosie O'Gradys between them? I pass this place often and they always seem to have a fair few customers. I have only been put off by the fact all the seating is 'outside' and I prefer to get away from the dust/exhaust and cigarette smoke. (Not to mention heat).

jacko replied to mataleo's topic in The Market
It is an important factor... if it was originally bought in a Thai name it is likely to be in the Thai quota. If that is the case a falang cannot own it....and must form a shell company to put it in or use an existing one. (or God forbid put it into a GF's name!) You should understand this is an serious consideration for non-Thai 'ownership'. -
At least there was one beautiful beaming smile in there, but mostly the girls seem to have an unwelcoming 'my shit don't stink look'..... Was that caused by the camera? How is the friendliness level inside these days?

Yes I have been too and managed to find a few things to bring home. It can be a very tiring experience, crowds in Thailand are hard work if you are the 'always in a hurry Western type'..... I think I found a place in the middle to sit down and have a cold one but then you are in need of a bathroom. The girlfriend will love it... you may not.

It would be more surprising to find a beef vindaloo in India considering 80% of them are Hindu and don't eat beef. And quite a few of the rest are vegetarian........ Over 10% yes are Muslim and 10% of a lot is of course a lot. 1.2 billion and still popping them out like crazy. There are also a lot of cockroaches and rats there! As to pork, well beware of it in India as pigs are a major player in sanitation there and vile scary creatures.

It seems the taking of pictures is better tolerated on Bangkok's soi Cowboy, than Pattaya's Soi Diamond.

Once did an Air France flight to Sao Paulo and in Biz Class they wouldn't answer the service bell. They were all sat in the galley smoking with the no smoking cabin on the other side of their curtain. That was a long time ago and my last AF flight. Had to watch out when booking to Bangkok with KLM though as they came up with AF flights.

New U.S. Tax Law - does it affect people in Thailand?
jacko replied to Trvlr's topic in Expat Issues
I notice they upped the NHS class 3 payments, both in amount and pension qualifying payments. To be honest I worry more about the banks doing a bail-in! -

Residency certificat for driving licence on trist visa
jacko replied to mataleo's topic in Expat Issues
There are a few places near the registration centre I was told... but to be honest I send the TGF out to sort out things like this so don't know exactly myself. The TGF informs me many car mechanic type places do the test and for a bike it is only 60-70 baht (for Thai maybe???) As you head towards the licence place on 36 from Sukhumvit there is a place on the left about 100m after the crocodile farm junction. -
Residency certificat for driving licence on trist visa
jacko replied to mataleo's topic in Expat Issues
Both can be done at the vehicle registration centre on Rt 36.... opposite the Regents School.. Insurance outside....'tax' inside. The CTPL insurance is about 325 baht, the tax/registration is only 100 baht I think. If the bike is older than 5 years it requires an inspection. Be aware that the obligatory CTPL insurance is very limited and you can end up with some 3rd party liability! I have supplementary motorcycle insurance. -
Yes, I think the floating market is rubbish. It was overpriced when free!

What a lovely looking place, and as you say, for a short few days, what the hell the expense! I guess the restriction on the number of floors that can be built close to the beach has been waved. For that price they should include Blue Label with the shampoo and hand cream!

A lot of changes in the offing. The line above drew my attention as I have heard nothing regarding the restriction on 'extension of stay' based on a tourist visa. Obviously that will likely be up to the guys in Jomtiem and not those in the Hull consulate. Hopefully Hull are wrong, or she is simply defining the last of the 3x60 day stays, as by then the visa will have expired, but I will be asking someone.
