  1. Pay attention Emil, I flew Business Class and said I went through Fast Track!Mentioned in this very thread. I was checked prior to passport control.
  2. Straight forward job.... where are you staying?Central Pattaya,. Art of Smile, 2nd Rd, opposite Bangkok bank, handy for Soi 6!
  3. Yes over 13 hours, not 12... a little longer than flying times via Mumbai. That was my point, you didn't really dispute or contradict that. I thought Gulf normally went via Bahrain, but wouldn't Muscat be more of a negative? Last time I went there it was a horrible little airport. Some years ago though. We often made jokes about Gulf Air (again ages back) as they seemed to stop off at various Middle Eastern places picking up and dropping off like a bus service.
  4. I thought the old one was on second rd, where the Avenue is now. They may well have had a second operation where you say though.
  5. Slight misrepresentation. Going via the ME is out of the way. Flight time London to Bahrain is normally 7-7.5 hours. Bahrain onward to Bangkok about 7 hours. Sometimes you might do better with a tail wind.
  6. I normally only do 2 UK trips out per year, but sometimes do a 3 month visa run to somewhere nearby, like Singapore or Bali.
  7. I can't even remember when the new airport opened, nor have I counted how many times I have been through it.
  8. I can only imagine it is a similar problem as per XP in IP allocation. Wireless networks normally the router should be responsible for assigning IP address. Vista doesn't make things easy but perhaps the following route will help.Right-Click on your wireless icon in notoification area and select Network and Sharing Centre In that window on the left select the Manage Wireless Networks At the top of that window, take the Adaptor Properties (also accessed via Control-Panel, Network and Internet, Network and Sharing Centre, Manage Wireless Networks, Adaptor Properties) Under the Networking Tab... normally everything is ticked in here... You can select the 'Internet Protocol Version 4' and 'Properties' Normally Obtain IP address and DNS address are automatic. Similar options are available under IPV 6. I get a bit confused here but all my settings are automatic and it seems to work most places. If you have a home wireless network whereby your computer normally controls IP addresses it will conflict. You likely know more than me or perhaps can figure it out from here!
  9. Remember to take your shoes off!
  10. Actually, at Bangkok I went through security before immigration. I posted it was a bit of a nuisance trying to get my belt back in and passport out at the same time. Others (Eneukman) have posted completely contradicting your statement above, so someone is wrong. I am getting tired of this..... I just repeat the statements.Non passengers should not be allowed to go to the gates. A centralised security doing a thorough job is far more efficient than 25 or more security checks at the gates. American carriers, or carriers to America, may well have a secondary security check at the gate area. My last flight via Qatar in September, I did not go through any further security checks after the one PRIOR to immigration. And very efficient that was too. Things may be different now as it is some weeks later...... so I will have to take my closer look at Bangkok next time I fly, which may well not be until Spring. I have flown through Singapore Airport more than twice, and used Singapore Airlines many times. You apparently are stuck on United. One carrier from one country. I think that airports have single security checks for all passengers because it makes a lot more sense than having multiple ones at each gate with the multiple repetition of equipment and personnel. You have to check passports and boarding cards centrally anyhow. Bangkok used to have security prior to check in and at the entrance to each gate wing. Apparently that has been changed, I noticed it, Eneukman did, 2 slices short and Stinky too. Stinky thought it vastly improved. You prefer security checks at each gate with crowds of relatives waving off the passengers there. As you like. I think we can conclude some carriers will still do gate security checks as a vote of no-confidence (thanks Joe), but passengers will still go through a prior check irrespective of you thinking individual gate checks being better. I seem to recall that many US airports have security centralised, well after 9-11. Prior to that it was low level... allowing non-passengers through too.
  11. King Sized bed.... Extra pillows. In-room safe.... No joiner fee, but some level of security. No smoking rooms (you can never get that vile stink out). Large in room fridge (not the shoe box size), give guests the option of filling it themselves or you stock it as a mini-bar. Good booking staff, westerners are used to using the internet and emails to get things done, Thai staff are often lazy about replying and disorganised. High level of English proficiency at the reception desk. Television with cable/satellite, a remote control and a lounging sofa. Room service for meals/ drinks. Good hot water system that can be controlled... nice to get hot water at the sink for shaving, but sometimes this makes the shower uncontrollable. Wireless Internet maybe. A neighbourhood wild dog extermination policy...
  12. If you are running XP, above post should cure it. If you have Vista, let us know and I will see if I can detail that.
  13. You will have to pay the 99 baht bill with 1 baht coins.... and a 10 minute wait between each!
  14. Isn't that like shwarma? Chicken or lamb on a pita bread rolled with all sorts of gook? Corner of Marine Plaza...
  15. If they mix it up like you mix up your letters it won't taste so good!
  16. I think they advertised it for the Manhattan on TV last night.
  17. He takes it to the recycling places and gets more for it of course. There are many down Soi Khao Noi area and toward Khao Talo. You are either getting a good deal or collect a good pile of prime rubbish.... I rarely got over 100 baht for mine when it started getting in the way. More recently I save it for one collector who seems to have a bad lot in life and give it away, and deter those annoying guys who go through my bin tearing up the bags in there.
  18. Well it would seem that airports do not agree as, for example, Bangkok has centralised to a single main security just after immigration. I have always found it most annoying to be called out of the lounge on a 'boarding call' to be subjected to further security at the gate, long lines, and then packed into a gate holding area at the top of the jetway, which is not yet open. Do security once and do it well. Your consideration of the airport retailing staff (I don't see why they should not go through a security check of their own) is minor. Your way we now have to put all the passenger purchases through security checks at the gate, particularly the liquids. How about the staff who do the checks at the aircraft, where did they go through security? Also the boarding staff, caterers, luggage security, pilot and stewardesses. Are you planning that they drag all the X-ray equipment between gates or, rather inefficiently, have a set at every single gate and the multiple skilled operators. No, this is dumb..... as security checks become more sophisticated, the equipment changes, it s looks for other than metal (liquids and plastic weapons), fast moving but fewer devices is more practical. Moving it to the gates where space is limited, and repeating it x number of operating gates..... ??? Then again, there might be a new trend of suicide bombers at the crowds going through security at the gate! Yes let us give them an opportunity to sneak a tank in pieces and assemble it in the toilet or Power Duty Free.
  19. Really...I must be confusing Singapore with Siberia! (PS It might be faster to use the railway network than drive)Let me try the other question.... What is more efficient, a single central security for all the airport or 25+ little independent ones at each gate.....? Toughie this one........... Are you winding me up?
  20. Are you in China......? Those censors are a bit slow!
  21. There is an alternative treatment called 'Zoom'.... it is expected to reduce sensitivity. It is a light activated gel applied... About 10,000 baht and I know Phyathai (Sri Racha) has it.
  22. You don't pull kwh, you consume kw and multiply it by the time it was consumed. Just taking the 36W (and not all the consumption around the bulb), run it for 1 hour, that is 36(the power)x1(time in hours)/1000(convert watts to kilo-watts)....0.036kwh. Another way would be to accurately measure the power by simply measuring current, multiply by the voltage..IxV=Watts. Sadly it can be more complicated than that but I hope you get the gist! Hey, I ain't all that fat... these early mornings keep my weight down.
  23. What's wrong with my link????
  24. As you took my snide remark so well I think I will give you a thumbs up. Made it to Pattaya and back without getting killed or rained on yesterday on the motorcycle..... but was waiting at the junction of 36/Sukumvit. The way these trucks come hurtling off 36 and swing left infront of coaches and trucks and bikes doing quite a speed, I wonder if the ditches at the road edge are for rainwater or blood!
  25. I think I would go along with that, having stayed in Mexico for a few years you do have to be careful where you eat. California might well come in second....after Texas!
