  1. I wouldn't worry to much bolly.... a warning that there is a gang currently in operation is appreciated. If they are a success, another outlet may be considered! Add it to my list with the katoeys to beware of. I recall being similarly swamped in Manila, there were so many of them it's hard to defend your property without wanting to bang some heads. Whether the police are aware seems irrelevant, they seem to prefer getting involved after the event rather than a preventative presence.
  2. Dear oh dear......
  3. Ah yes, I have tried that but somewhere else. Unfortunately the pieces of duck seemed to be the odds and ends I would normally throw away! Put off for life!Back to the old joke, I ordered a large duck and all I got was a big bill!
  4. My Thai isn't up to figuring out the other Fra Pattaya dish. But I am guessing it's the other dish I went for as an alternate to the roasted duck curry. It was a large plate of fried roasted duck that came with Kale? I recall it also came with the pink pickled ginger?
  5. I absolutely love gaeng pet phet, although the picky TGF wouldn't go for it. It was always my favourite at the old 'Fra Pattaya' (Other end of Pattaya Tai)That info alone will have me back in the Vientiane soon.
  6. Glad to hear you are recovering OK.I might be looking to have this procedure done in a few years myself. Regarding your prior post, 'mistake' and 'eye operation' don't go together well in my mind. I wouldn't worry about any prejudice, just be honest. Thankfully the 'mistake' seems to be recoverable...... the details of this and how it was handled now sound more important to me!
  7. Went there last night. Directions above are good, but if you come from Sukhumvit it would be on your left, just after BigC, turn into Soi 1. Vientiane Restaurant And closer.... Food was of a high standard. Reasonable prices. Attentive service, that I kinda wished had more to do as he was all over us like a rash. (Who trains Thai waiters, the twit reached over my TGFs plate to remove another one?!) Plenty of parking, big open air layout. But sure looks empty when it is quiet.
  8. I wish, the guys on the spare land near me throw diesel on them and light a fire!Ignore Joe, as I wish he would ignore this thread. It is a subject worth discussing. For example he could have suggested that printer cartridges can be refilled in Thailand easily instead of his usual 'Thais are perfect as they are' speech. They do recycle quite well, I actually sell all my old cans and bottles to someone who comes round in a truck. If I were to put them in the trash cans someone would come remove them and scatter all the other rubbish in the street. My main comment is recycling works well here, anything that can make money will be performed. But I see little regard for the environment generally, rubbish is dumped anyplace, an ice cream wrapper dropped anywhere, the sea littered with debris. A bit like my UK town on a quiet Sunday morning.
  9. I think Thailand has a little way to go on this one. I can't get over why I need 25 BigC flyers pushed in my gate every week!
  10. No, that would be counter productive. She seems to take her birthday as quite an important event, so no alternative other than go shopping there.
  11. I have not been asked, and would not be inclined to offer support. I believe the TGF sends or gives a bit now and again to her mother from her paltry allowance! A request for a loan from a sister was met by my TGF and repaid quickly. I think I am fortunate that her family take care of themselves.
  12. I just received an email joke....God talked to Farrah Fawcett, saying, 'You have lead a good life, I grant you any wish for the world'... Farrah thought a moment and decided...'I want all children to be free from victimization, God protect the little children' Guess who he took next........ Although from what I see on the BBC and Fox, and the interview with Al Sharpton, MJ ws pretty close to a God himself!
  13. Well the BBC have been harping on for 26 minutes now.It really is OTT.
  14. Yes, and we enjoyed this platform to vent our discontent, a freedom 'not permitted' in our homeland! Have to get back to 'grumblimg mumblings' in the smoke room!
  15. Thank for that glynbuk. How are the facilities at the terminal in Abu Dhabi? I had forgotten the penchant for 'bare feet' but I would likely see that on Qatar and Emirates too!
  16. Yes it is dark, and several months back an English guy died close to where I am. Chasing some punks (or being chased), ended up in a collision with a vehicle. But back to the OP, I think these houses are interesting. Priced sensibly... probably be 20 million for the same space and a seaview for a condo! There's a bit more crime on the Beach Rd too!
  17. Post a link, I can't get anything other than 'resource cannot be found'.Maxnet (my ISP) here in Pattaya has been messed up for a few days though,
  18. You might be right on Abu Dhabi having a new terminal as I haven't been there for a few years. So anybody out there who knows.... ? I was looking for outward about (can move a few days each way) 8th September, back about 25th. Nothing booked yet.
  19. It's a pain in the arse to drive up at about 4-7pm.Too much traffic, a market, poor lighting and a nasty drop at the edge where the sand has been washed out. Floods when it rains too! The new traffic lights cause long backups heading to Sukhumvit at peak times, I wouldn't have said 'dodgy' though (if you mean crime issues), the 'khao' roads to the south have more of a reputation.
  20. A bit harsh, price sounded attractive if the construction quality is as good as it sounds. Also being 2 storey. Being close to Pattaya isn't everything, there the best school in town is nearby, as is the motorway. Price would have sounded better at 65 baht/£ though.
  21. Going the other way, Bangkok to Manchester, UK, I'm looking for a September flight in Biz Class. Qatar, who I would lilke to try, are still coming in at about 85,000 (incl taxes) baht. Tom has advised me that there is a good chance some specials will be available and to hang on. I just took a look at Ethiad and they are offering about 75,000 baht. I don't like Abu Dhabi airport but that is an attractive fare. Anybody have any experience of Ethiad Biz? Or any other recommendations. I am a bit picky as I want to avoid LHR, one transit max and no layovers over 3 hours.
  22. Are you surprised that the police didn't accept this? It is after all a bizarre 'joke' to slip something into a 'friend's' bag. Is this what passes for fun in Oz? Do you do it to each other in department stores? Then laugh as they get stopped by security as the handbag causes an alarm? I heard a similar story when talking to a Middle Eastern friend who claimed that people were slipping things into Middle Eastern women's bags as they strolled around Harrods in London. Purely a malicious racist act against his 'creed' he thought. Found it hard to give that credence too. It's not only the Thais who are xenophobic!

    Beer Lao

    Right, thanks for that.
  24. Yeah I must admit I can't find a flight on SQ for £344, mostly up in the big number region. Sorry if I misled BMs. I wonder who I see at Opodo regarding misleading me? This is the shite you get these days, prices from, without stipulation as to when.
  25. On my last visit (Wed) a couple of the new recruits seemed to have overcome their nerves! They were still prowling in pairs though..... you could see them looking around with that let's go farang (tequila) hunting thought! Lovely cuties with the playfulness still evident.
