  1. It's a sad fact of life here mate.... they will try to use inferior (cheaper) stuff if you don't watch like a hawk. If you had any guarrantee or warranty you might be able to take your problem to a solicitor. But the solicitor is likely out to screw you too! Maybe be prepared to find your horse's head in the pool too!
  2. Err.... first right at a roundabout when driving on the left???? I'm confused......
  3. It makes me think back to when I was frequently travelling from USA to Hong Kong then on to China. We all had to fly together and the American bosses pressed that we use United..... collecting airmiles was paramount when on company business! I used to sit there for the umpteen hours, sulking, trying to get a drink from these elderly dragons, pondering the thought.... I could have been on Cathay Pacific!!!!
  4. All right....'New Age Travelers'......

    Nightmarch

I don't have permission to post a new topic in this forum, but here is a link to 15May09 Nightmarch, from the Pattaya Today Newspaper. It's a good read for those who live here. Nightmarch 15th May
  6. How about who has the doggies too? I always wondered where Saudia got theirs from...... And of course, the USA carriers with their seniority rules can result in some motherly looking and behaving service!
  7. A wet afternoon in Pattaya is far superior to one in London me thinks. I just spent 3 weeks in the UK and it rained 18 out of 21 days. Here we got warmth and girls under 90 kilos who serve cold beers with a smile..... come on down. They need the business and will be very hospitable.
  8. Are there any restrictions on who can captain a boat on a river? Most certainly only a Thai is allowed to do so at sea. A motorhome/caravan would have to be well made to be cool enough. If I didn't know better I would suspect the Bangkok post was taking the piss. Be great to have some pikeys parked up on that bit of spare land stealing stuff from your yard!
  9. Carrefour has quite a stock these days. My French neighbour has told me he has been quite happy with some of his selections from there. Him and his like minded friends enjoy a mutual orgasm over corks and labels many a time.
  10. What are spray brand razors? I use these Gillette Blue 2 Plus things, I may have seen Gillette Blue here but not this exact model. They were sold in silly little packs of 3, and when I tried them they wouldn't shave an egg. Some other brands bought here also exhibited such dullness. I am not inclined to waste my time and money, and will use up the 4 packs of 10 in my cupboard first, despite the fact that the heat and humidity causes the lubricated strip to peel off!
  11. If not your camera, someone else's BigD...... that's lame... to go with the limp!
  12. I am more concerned that they have been cleaning the bog and are now serving food!!!But I just always order my drinks and tell them to get them now. They give the usual slightly confused look at having their routine thrown off, but catch on and genially go off to do so, leaving me to leisurely peruse the menu (in LOS, a list of things they have and do not have....) If the drink order is passed off to another, as also happens often, well let them stand behind us and keep employment up!
  13. My you are getting sarcy.... How about disposable razors, I still fetch loads of those back, although as you say the deodorants are readily available.
  14. Not sure I would quote Villa market as an example of food prices in LOS. Even the Market in Jomtiem or Pattaya Tai are over the top. Indian restaurants do tend to be expensive in central Pattaya...... but I used to experience them in the Middle East, where for some reason the ingredients don't seem to be so expensive as to warrant the high prices. I actually think 1400 baht for 2 is over the odds, but I like to get the 2-300 baht change.
  15. Wow, that takes me back...... more traffic these days isn't there?
  16. I can add to this. Having had good results with Mr Toom I gave his number to a few neighbours. He let one of them down, with an early pickup about 6.00 am. I talked to him when I saw an alternate car arrive and he was quite displeased. He had tried Mr Toom's telephone numbers but he wasn't picking up. Similar when I called him once when my ride wasn't there .... he called back later after I had found his tardy 'agent' at the airport. A car arrived 5 minutes after my neighbour left (35 minutes late), with a reasonable excuse that the scheduled car was involved in an accident. Later that same day, Mr Toom's man collected me on schedule, great car, and no problems. His service is pretty reliable, but on the odd occasion it messes up, he doesn't pick up the phone! By the way, don't be fooled by the taxis from the desks in arrivals... I know guys often feel tired and can't be arsed messing about and take the first one offered! Met a guy in a bar last night who paid 3000 baht for a taxi to Pattaya....
  17. It did,...... sorry about that. I had mentioned it in a conversation with Rick.....Trip to the UK..... just to confirm why I prefer LOS!
  18. And let the wife dictate who lives there!
  19. SURE......? I always thought I had a TOT phone line, as that is who the bill appeared to come from. But when I checked into it, they said it was a TT&T number....

    Ex Pat

Draw them out before I go maybe.....Also I believe I can use the Bangkok Bank ATM card in other countries...... I could always come back to LOS unless I became 'non grata'... I also live in LOS and up to this time bought all my tickets ex UK. No problem, I go 2 times/year and flight dates can be changed. My future ones will be ex-los as I came out one way this time.
  21. Actually yes as far as this issuer or a rental agency is concerned http://www.theaa.com/getaway/idp/ What the police probably requires is for it to be accompanied by a picture of royalty.
  22. Since you live in Bangkok it is probably a good idea.
  23. I just flew Biz Class back to the UK with them... the crap bit was the KLM economy leg! My flight was empty and hence great... and a lot cheaper than Emirates or Ethiad...... plus no detour!
  24. Are Turkish Airlines able to issue the onward from Istanbul boarding cards at Bangkok now?A past issue was having to go to the transit desk to get the boarding card in Istanbul before... not good with a tight connection.
