Sorry to wax lyrical but it did take me back somewhat... to sitting on the Beach in a deck chair under an umbrella which was an integral part of my early 1980s visits to Pattaya. Mostly around the bend past The Dusit or in Jomtiem. A cold beer mid afternoon, a Pork Penang and fried rice made by an old lady with a wok and gas cylinder behind, a little nap as the sun set. Those casual encounters...... Killing time until beer o'clock.....

Same Road The Majestic Condo is on, also known as Bun Kanchana Alley The Wat Bun temple is at the top, Sukhumvit end, and The Winchester/ Jomtiem 2nd Rd junction at the other, used to be a roundabout, but I think it is a junction now. Straight on and you come to the Jomtiem Beach at the Grand Jomtiem Palace Hotel. Google Maps,

My initial opening line was something similar... 'For the Expats amongst us who do not know, Pattaya has a Beach', but I dropped it. I never use the beach, and my last previous walk on the sand was the fireworks competition last June, and it was truly a mess then,

Well the 3 years tunnel project is done, so we need something to commentate on. How about the Beach reclamation, another likely long project? For those unaware, Pattaya Beach was vanishing, sand was being lost. There has also been a lot of reports of it being littered with rubbish. The project brought sand, a particular type of sand, from afar, and recently the Northern end was reopened. The South end, from Central Festival Beach Rd South is currently being worked on, but I noticed the view from Klang now included the sea! I heard 2 reports, Mr Egg claimed it looked like Pattaya of years gone by, another said some of the new sand had already been washed away exposing bags, ie more like a single year gone by. Let us report by pictures taken on a hot Sunday afternoon, sunny but thunderclouds rolling in from the East. Looking South from Klang, low tide so plenty Beach, clear and clean. Looking North from Klang, the only rat a flying one, and a fine looking Beach. Poor guy is hungry, tourists told not to feed him, not to smoke, not to drink, not to...... Welcome to the Land of the Free. A little further North, loungers and shade, but occupying only a small width of the Beach! Looking closely, fine looking sand with no cigarette butts....good! Oh dear, a bit of rubbish arriving on the tide? Perhaps this is where it originates from, a boat unloading rubbish! Something that shouldn't be there. Back on the Promenade, or coconut bar, a work of art has been set. A closer view of only 2 rows of loungers, I hope this can be maintained! The Dusit in the distance, the Beach looking good, but a few kids lost their toys. A bit of Yeuch still flows into the sea down the beach near the Dusit corner. I must say, mostly it doesn't look bad!

You need to ask some BM heading here from UK to bring one in!

As far as I know a tourist visa is still stuck in the passport! Sounds to me like you are talking about the TM6 card.

Beats me why people fly to Thailand to visit malls, unless they do not have them at home! Pattaya now has about 8 or 9 of them. The addition of one more is surprising when The Avenue and Harbor Mall are mostly empty. BigC-X and Central Festival Beach Road remain popular but this new addition can only dilute the numbers. Yesterday was a bad choice, it was terribly busy and difficult if you had a vehicle to park, many from Bangkok taking a look at the weekend. An impressive place with many food outlets, strongly targeting Asian cuisine. Designer shops and expensive adornments. They have bought barrels of cashew nuts cheap, and repackaged 5 in fancy foil bags for you to pay a lot for! A couple of Soi Buakhao Brits deciding whose round it is! A pity I can't post the original resolution.

Passport will work (you need to have it with you anyhow), visa irrelevant as only required for entry to Thailand. (presuming permission to stay still active)

Or in the Pattaya area Siamburys ? Or, for the benefit of your waistline, skip a chunk of them! They are oh so much more pleasurable when you break the fast on a UK trip! Mmmmm Jaffa Cakes......Gregg's whist pies.

I thought perhaps you had bought it, in which case due consideration!!! No probs with a rental unless you pay a large slice up-front. ie security deposit and advance rent.. Although I fail to see the advantage, if your condo owner takes care of the TM30, no change, if he does not, I believe you personally will still have to take care of it.. (If she could do it for you, and it works, let us know as it is good feedback. I know some falangs who rent condos and take care of the non-Thai GF TM30 issue successfully in Jomtiem) CT decided not to post here further.
