Yes , i was thinking a walk along Jomtien walkway. Just not sure of the walk from Ban Suan or Pratnumak to the beach . I am going to get a driver for a couple hours to explore . Thought about taking my bike but since im not familiar with the area and my head will be on a swivel maybe not. I cannot walk from Northpoint to Pattaya. Cannot get around the rocks at Dusit. Shame, that would be a great walk .

Mango, yes many nice 1 hour walks along the beach to Central Festival. Grab some corn fed US sandwich steak that you cant even get in the US since that grass fed crap is the rage back there . Always enjoy a walk and a swim. If it looks like i have to joust with the Soi Dogs on the way to the beach at Jomtien will just take the bike down.

Thanks again Gary, we have talked before and i can cut my rent in half from Northpoint. Dont go to the beach anyway. Also have a bike to get to Villa Market. Cleaning girls here 500 baht but very good , even change my bed. Most important to me as you say is a well maintained complex especially the pool.

Bullfrog, where is your wine shop? Had a couple bottles at Villa and they made me wait until 11:00am Not 10:59.

Under 300 Baht ... And Good! (updated July 4, 2022)
sailingbill replied to Evil Penevil's topic in Restaurants and food
Ill be in Bangkok but the 595 Christmas dinner looks too be an excellent value for someone like myself. Not a big eater so the 1000baht dinners while im sure good, not for me. Really enjoy a Spaghetti Bolognese . Made it every week back home ,took hours. ,But yes spice is key. EP why the disdain for tomato paste?, adds depth. Had the SP Bol on Robins Nest on Diana last night , ok but this looks better. I always mean to take pasta home from the lady next to Jibbys but after stumbling out with the love of my next few hours i forget. -
USA Social Security DD to Bangkok bank. Anyone do it?
sailingbill replied to sailingbill's topic in Expat Issues
Thanks, very good information. I Prefer DD to Transferwise or Scwab. May need to show 65000/ month next year but an agent looks like a reasonable solution unless they will be required to show insurance. The worth of The O-A was it was only 200usd, effective for 2 years, no need to have any money or prove income in a Thai Bank. But i need to stop crying about that and move on. -
USA Social Security DD to Bangkok bank. Anyone do it?
sailingbill replied to sailingbill's topic in Expat Issues
Larry again thanks. I have the two required accounts, not that big of a burden. Just knowing i can do its very helpful . The branch on Soi 6 understands Was there 2 days ago , Passport in hand but got sidetracked at the Corner Bar . -
Just a drop in the bucket but my Real Estate company whom i am very happy with is familiar with these inhospitable changes. I cancelled a condo purchase . Am moving from Wong Amat to Jomtien saving me 120,000 in rent per year in anticipation of buying a useless insurance policy or using an agent. My net cost will be zero. I love Thailand and have no immediate plans to leave. But i am looking at options.

Thanks Larry, one of the lucky ones . -
Evil , l enjoy a steak sub and that looks good. Prefer shaved steak to chopped. I took a lovely girl from Pandoras last night and sitting on Diana having a drink with her was surprised to see Robins Nest across the Soi. Same food? Will probably return tonight . She wanted to eat at KIss but damn , if i could eat her now and the sandwich later. Yes. i can suffer through.

Christmas Dinner Options 2019 (updated Dec. 18)
sailingbill replied to Evil Penevil's topic in Restaurants and food
Always thankful for your updates Evil, A frequent customer at Villa Market and will give Robins Nest a try. Ot but if anyone is in Bangkok try Moonshine pub for Christmas Dinner. Soi22 , soon to be gone Queens Park. It is free and good food. They only ask you to buy drinks and tip the staff well.. Free normally scares me as i remember the photo of BIG D tearing in to the buffet at FLB. But get there early and tables were open at Thanksgiving. -
Bigus, grew up about the same time. Always admired that Jag but did not have the money. Owned TR3, MGB, and a Porsche 356. The only one that could run a 100 miles without repair was the Porsche. And that was only because it had a VW engine and no lucas gages. Always longed for a Lotus Europe.

Thanks nkped, i will give it a try, if it works will save me 30k i may pay my agent friend .I will report back. Im aware of the contact but didnt know they would complete the form.
-
Aj, not understanding but sounds good , what is kcmo? Why is the forum bullshit. ? i have bcbs , would be very good if someone would complete the form. I do spend to much time on Soi LK drinking the demon Rum so be gentle but it is a serious issue for me,

While indeed 2cd hand info my friend , an agent in Bangkok said the health insurance requirement is coming for everyone. I have good insurance but as js has just said is the company going to complete this ridiculous form?. I posted before that i cancelled my December trip to the PI worried i might void my O-A. Also put on hold buying a condo until i see where this goes. Even though he is a good friend and pretty clued in i dont like using agents. I love Thailand . Maybe ill just marry the girl in Roi Et. Need to research that.

Dont go to Ko Larn anymore preferring to send out of town visitors without me . But remember some good times buying raw seafood, duck at the stand and they would bring a small grill and a large bottles of Singh to our chair at the beach JS, what part of Jomtien? I may give it a try.

Is it worth learning Thai anymore?
sailingbill replied to Butch's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Thats a good one kped . I was in a taxi and another time a restaurant Spoke Thai and got the blank look. The Thai girl took over and i listened . Hey , i said it the same way you did , why i am not understood. Just the look of pity. I will continue to try. -
Is it worth learning Thai anymore?
sailingbill replied to Butch's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I have always wanted to learn Thai and am quite fluent at reverse bar girl. That is if a girl is new with no english i'm up to the task Once on Soi Cowboy Mama asked me to sit with a new arrival from Issan as she wasnt getting any customers. She spoke not a single word of english and Mama was worried she was heading back home. We had a good night. But i dont understand anything and cannot read. A girl pissed me off years ago telling me just speak english, i dont understand your Thai. So i keep trying. Threre is a school close to me and i may try again but will start with basic reading. But to your question Butch , does not seem a reason to go advanced unless a hobby. -
I wont be joining your staff but like the attitude.. Enjoyed the beach restaurants on Wong Amat but may move to Pratumnack /Jomtien. Name of your new place?
-
Thanks Baz, timely post for me as i am considering moving from Wongamat to Pratumnak or Ban Suan.in Jomtien

nkped, excellent information, ill give it a try Thanks. Reminds me when i first tried to get a bank account, the manager at the then Big C mall waved his arms , "No Farang" A BM here advised me not to try in a tourist area. Go up Klang and they will open an account for you.

Odd acts of kindness Thais seem to do.
sailingbill replied to Butch's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Glad to see this thread is still here. We usually hear only the bad. Like Elche i have seen security or housekeeping staff at "Mom"s cart outside my condo and payed a small amount ,not often. A girl who stays overnight sometimes has to leave early for work . The Taxi guys are not always on Wongamat early. She told me Mom knows Papa and always flags a motorcycle guy for her. -
Having Thanksgiving dinner with friends in Bangkok. Will publish here the fee schedule of an agent. But agree with Force, i dont expect the Insurance form to be difficult or expensive. I do worry what happens if agents go away?. When Big Joke came back to Imm he was going to target agents , we see how that went . But remember years ago when there was a Visa run Kiosk and Van on every Soi. All gone overnight. I am in compliance with income and health insurance. But good luck proving it. I prefer not to use an Agent but ready to give up. Moderator Jacko, before we get specific is this a protected or public forum?

i just obtained the O-A in Washington l last month. Thought good for 2 years now the health insurance is required even for reentry. Cancelled my trip to the PI in December . Good that the OP was able to use his BCBS card . I have the same but that is not how the rule reads. With overseas coverage a health insurance form needs to be completed. Will BCBS do this?. I have a friend who is an agent in Bangkok and used to joke i"ll not need your service. I was surprised he was familiar with the Health Insurance requirement as it woudnt normally affect his clients. But he claims it will be a general requirement after Feb. He will obtain one for me but i dont need it until a trip to the PI next Sept. and hopefully stamped in for another year. OT but of similar interest . I want Direct Deposit of my SS. The form requires a bank official signature. The bank refused , i called the main office in Bangkok and they said it was the policy only to sign BB forms. Any suggestions.? Im using transferwise but no Guarantee it will show as an overseas transfer every month.
