  1. Translation: Hello, we are a French-Japanese couple.... .
  2. Not really, not that there is a shortage of those. Thais grow up with this one, which is followed and more custom than law, really. I've never heard of a legal case, either real or helmet type. It's one of those things that just "is" nowadays. I believe the law is very old. .
  3. What is a "p" and what does it have to do with calling from Thailand to the US? Back to the OP: In general, it doesn't matter what carrier you use. When you dial, do NOT dial 001 to get out which is expensive, dial 005, 006, 007, 008 - they all are about the same price, one or more of them work with any given carrier. Any decent mall (especially Tukcom of course) has gazillions of cheap (used) cellphones, certainly under 1,000 baht, which is just about throwaway prices. .
  4. The government ALSO coerces and intimidates banks, especially state-owned banks, to lend money and/or forget debts as part of the popular populism of the day. There's a lot of it right now, what with elections due in about three months. .
  5. In Thailand it is a law that any public place must allow free use of its toilets - bar, restaurant, market, whatever. .
  6. To just pick up and dial, about 5 to 7 baht a minute. If you are around for a bit, you can set up deals with LD firms for about 2 baht - the setup takes a bit of time, like maybe an hour, on the Internet. Or you can work a deal where the person in the US calls you (back), which is the cheapest. .
  7. The government doesn't lend money. The government confiscates money at gunpoint including in Isan, including the Thaksin government. .
  8. Be terrific to make act ual lines and paragrap hs too. .
  9. And now, for one brief moment, you have lived how tens of thousands of Thais live every day in every tourist centre including Bangkok. (And around the world, where people have to put up with that xhit just to live.) Count it as a teaching moment, because it is. That's how THEY view you. Except for that, of course. You never get the prettier ones. .
  10. Who is Ping? .
  11. Did someone mention visa? Everyone on the list requires a passport. In fact everyone NOT on the list needs a passport to get through Singapore immigration with any speed, except for some Singaporeans and some certain Malaysians. Among the more than 6 billion people who MUST have a passport to enter Singapore are Thai nationals. In fact, Thais can't even get to a Singapore border to be rejected for entry unless they have a passport - bar a few really strong Thai swimmers who also are stupid. .
  12. About 90 minutes from where you are, you can get into your only land neighbour without a passport. And vice versa, although your neighbours now need a passport to RETURN to their country. .
  13. Correct. She won't get TO Singapore - not by plane, not on the ground. A Thai who lives right on a border MIGHT get across that border for a few hours in one town without a passport. They need a passport to go to any Asean country, but NOT a visa. .
  14. By stupid people, yes. I'd say "believed" as in deranged, though, not "reputed". This story is unbelievable. Not even Obama could think Britain has an efficient governm... oh, wait, COMPARED with his, oh, okay, I get it. .
  15. I've not seen a place that requires the chip, and there are few if any that utilise it, it seems. The card companies keep threatening on it, but so far, no. .
  16. Weather is hotter, approximately hottest. Pattaya is always busy, May in real terms is low season - but busy .
  17. There is no limit on the amount of money you are "allowed" to import to Thailand. If it's cash or similar it has to be declared but please bring millions, lots of people do. .
  18. Huh? Yes my OPINION is correct. Isn't yours? .
  19. Not so much dominant as it is the lingua franca. A lot of Filipinos can't understand each other after more than two generations of pushing Tagalog into the brains of school kids. At least the Thais mastered the lobotomy operation for students. Another good thing is that you can comment, correct the OP and give your own, correct opinion. .
  20. The other thing is, though, that it's nowt to do with being Thai - or so it seems. .
  21. Heh. Sometimes it's better to remain silent..... and so on. .
  22. A slight stretch. Obama is exactly one of those politicians CLAIMING he is Christian, but showing no proof of it at all. He has no church, no pastor/minister, doesn't attend services etc. .
  23. Nah, that's income. If they pay your taxes THAT is income. If they pay housing or kids' schooling, that's income. You cannot legally do any or all of the above. .
  24. You can file a refund request. You'll get if you should ... takes three, four years, I kid you not. Sounds like you've made sure the deductions are right. After that, just BOHICA. .
