I got a region free mini DVD player on EBay and I love the thing in LOS, as it comes in very handy . I did have a slight problem at the Regency Park Hotel in BKK, as the damn TV was old and had no hookups.

I think a nicer room @ Baybreeze is the same price for a normal room @ Lek, so I would go Baybreeze

I've stayed there 2 times and never had any problems, as Bert runs a very good place. The DVD player is a great addition, as the TG's will love it. Get a couple of movies and you're set for a night of fun. Fire Escape in a good thing, I use it during the day also... Well worth your effort to stay there, I stayed in a Penthouse Flat

There is a safe in the room and you have a key for it, but Bert really wants you to use the ones behind the bar, for the your security

Try a Deluxe Room [553} and will be very surprised at the renovations, as it is huge with 2 TV's, sofa, loveseat and a table in an eating area. 1500 Baht and the rooms are bigger than the ones at the RG.......

I found the Baht Bus system to be a little annoying, but no a major problem. It was the assignment of the TG I was with to get us a Baht Bus and she never had any big problems doing that. So it really isn't anything to worry about... If I was at Soi 8 {I hung out at Soi 9}, I would go down Beach Road to Walking St and cut through at the Diamond Beach Hotel to get a Baht Bus back to the RG As far as noise, I'd say "what noise"..? Close the sliding glass doors and I slept like a baby. I would also turn the AC on, in the other room and leave the bedroom AC off. Most TG's don't like it blowing on them anyway and by doing this I was very comfortable, myself. Pools are very nice, rooms are very clean, service is very good and the buffett at Captians Corner is unbelievable.

I always try to make a purchase or two from him on my trips. Very nice man and he does need the help.

I've pre-paid a deposit for a hotel on 2 different weeks in Jan/Feb 2005, it was a total of 1,000 Baht. If I decided to not stay the 2nd week, I have lost 500 baht {deposit}. That is my choice/option, no other way to look at it. My reservations have tied up a room and the penalty for not using that reservation is my deposit.

Last year the Queen Vic had a Superbowl Party, but I stayed in the room to watch it. That was the first year they had Thai announcers for the broadcast, so I had to mute the sound. I watched the last 3 Superbowls in Thailand, it makes for a very early morning when you get up @ 0600 to watch the game. I actually prefer to just stay in the room and watch it... It's a shame that Pit, Indy, New England and Baltimore are all in the same conference, as either of those matchups would make a great game.
