Bird ( The Guy with the tattoed face)
Big_Brian replied to nus01's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
RIP. Used to see him in the Cherry Bar, though not last trip. Like some others, I used to buy him the odd drink, had to stop though because he wouldn't go away then. Does anyone know what happened; found dead in bed, or found dead under a baht bus? -
Learning to play golf in Pattaya
Big_Brian replied to explorer2190's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
"A couple of nights at a driving range, a couple of days on the course ..." If you're a complete beginner, I'd strongly advise a couple of lessons first. You use the driving range to practice and to embed muscle memory so that, on the course, your swing is automatic. But it's no use (even harmful) to practice, and embed, bad habits. Any teaching pro will tell you that they spend longer breaking bad habits than teaching new stuff. You need to be shown the basics before you start, it'll serve you better in the long run. -
November Golf Festival 2011

Thanks, I'm down a few stone but am still firmly in the blimp category. Any change of just the shirt pocket badge? I could get it sewn onto a shirt that does fit. -

It was fairly honest and didn't preach for a change.

I'd forgotten that. From the plane to the terminal was only a couple of hundred yards, but the bus went round the airport perimeter. Some sort of one-way system I believe.

Cherry Bar Party (James Birthday)

Well, he doesn't exactly have a door! -
I've a set of Tevion - used for the first time last trip. Not high end, so not high end performance, but not high end price either. I got more sleep than usual, so I'm a convert now. They cut down the low frequency sounds most, which is most of the aircraft noise. I found that best results were got by playing gentle music through them - I used my mobile to play the music, but any source would do.

Look on the wall by the bed, looks like AC controls to me.

Pattaya Bay Resort pre-review

Got this in an email from them; "A large chain in Bangkok is the buyer and have indicated they like the way the PBR runs now.". So hopefully no great changes. -
It's at night and I actually liked the old "doughnut" terminal at Abu Dhabi, haven't seen the new one (terminal 3) though. Apparently lounge access for 6 hours is £24. If I can't find a good place to snooze, I'll do that.

November Golf Festival 2011

YES! Today I book a ticket that'll get me there on 29 October and now this comes up. Sweet. -
And as soon as I asked the question, a filght I like came up on Etihad for £504. Good times at both ends for getting to and from Heathrow, 8 hour layover on the way out, but I can live with that. Booked immediately. 123 days to go!

I've been looking for over a month now for a flight UK to LOS late October, returning late November. For some reason this time it's being difficult; the times are wrong, the prices are ridiculous, the lay-over is too long, etc, etc. So far the best I can find is Gulf Air from Heathrow via Bahrain. I've used Gulf before and, while they'll never make the top of my list, they're OK. My worry is transiting via Bahrain - not so much personal safety, but flight disruption due to the "Arab Spring" that's currently causing a lot of problems in the Middle East. They even cancelled the Bahrain Grand Prix as they couldn't guarantee a smooth event. So, should I worry? Any informed opinions please? Thanks. BTW, to forestall the comments, this isn't about politics, or religion, or Arabs, only about me getting to Fun Town and back on time, with no hassle.

Just a quick post to second this. The only problems I had were punctures - which I consider to be down to me to fix. On the second one in the same (rear) wheel, Mark came round the next day while I was on the golf corse, took the bike away to be checked over, and brought it back with a new tyre on it. A seamless service, I'll happily use them again.

I love the last pic. I'm sure I've met those two in Pattaya.

I like it.

Doubt it, the number's on a speed-dial. Jacko, That's always possible.

Well, I finally remembered to check my balance before and after a UK call. Looks like the 009 prefix does still give about 7 Baht a minute. Somehow I dropped about 200 Baht around the time of my first call home, looks like it wasn't that call after all. I know that it's possible for a girl to transfer credits from one phone to another, but I've only had my regular overnight and I doubt if she'd do that, so I'll just write it off as "one of those things". TIT after all. Thanks for all the advice folks, normally I just call my (elderly) mother a couple of times a week when I'm out here, I can live with 7 Baht a minute.

Weather in end June- early July
Big_Brian replied to benny27's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Hot and sticky with occasional elections. -
I'm hoping that you're correct there. So far I'm not seeing anything acceptable for a late Oct flight. Living in Cornwall, London, Birmingham or Manchester are only a couple of hours different in travel time for me, so any will do. However, the flight has to be late enough that I can get there on the day and the return early enough that I can get home on the day, which complicates things. So far the best price (and the only one I keep seeing under £500) is Oman ex Heathrow, but it has a 13 hour lay-over on the way back and doesn't get me back in time to get a train home, so I'd have to be desperate to take that one. Still looking.........................
