I am not trashing the place simply saying what was told to me and what I have observed myself I have not been to Pattaya since 2017 so it may well have changed but I doubt it as its pretty much unchanged since my first visit to soi Arunthi back in 2003, so don't expect 2 years have made much difference to the place. If the poster said that Norwich was a great team I would take issue with that because from personal experience its not true and from observation its not true so why am I not allowed an opinion on something I have at least a passing experience of.

Quite possibly but I have not stayed there in about 7 or 8 years and when I stayed there it was due mostly to the huge swimming pool and whilst it was a little run down it was for the most part quiet and no one had ever said to me that it had a bad rep , which is not the case with the Nirun . I used to go to the Shagwell on Arunthi for quiz nights and the lads in there were the ones who gave me the rundown ,no pun intended, on the Nirun.. Having said that I have never stepped over the boundary of the Nirun as the look of the place reminds me so much of a prison and it always seemed to have such disreputable looking characters lurking around the entrance, the security people I think and Moto taxi drivers..Now that might even be a description of myself from some peoples perspective but it's hard to change an opinion when I have never really heard anything good about the place other than from someone trying to either sell or rent out a condo. I have since my last visit /stay at the 9 karat used AirBnB and find that to be a much better fit from the point of view of renting short term as the places seem much newer and are better furnished and priced.. £300 a month sometimes even a little less, sometimes a great deal more it's up to you, as opposed to the 8500 baht per month I paid last time I stayed at the 9 karat, gets you a really great place in all kinds of rather good locations with no spurious deposits or extra charges for high priced electricity or expecting you to pay extra for wifi and sophon TV (was charged 500 baht for wifi and 250 baht for sophon which I didn't pay as I said they could disconnect it as I would never use it. .This has become a bit of a rant but I'm bored having been self isolated for 2 weeks with no Pattaya holiday to look forward too, I was planning on 2 months but am not in my first flush of youth or if I'm honest 3rd or 4th either and my health is not great either , with not movies , all closed no restaurants also closed no Ice hockey as they finished the season early and no World championship hockey as the cancelled that as well. I did have the Cricket season to look forward to with the new 100 series beginning My season pass and membership at Essex all looking a little less likely to go on I might just have topped myself from boredom before I ever get to go back to living my life.

I am seriously not trying to be down on the Nirun but it does have a pretty bad rep whether some think it should or not and only a couple of years ago when the Baht was nearer 50 to the £ there were places being offered as low as 450,000 baht and were getting no takers so why the increase in prices when the market AFAIK is stagnant with a return of 5000 a month that's 60,000 baht a year and that's a very good return on investment if you can get tenants, but there lies the sticking point. The area is not the best and I have stayed in the 9 karat which is only a stones throw away and was quite happy there but would never consider Nirun.purely on its rep.

The rate on the street.
sinbinjack replied to Chang_paarp's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
You asked a question . Can they do it ?. I answered yes they can because its their currency to with as they see fit. when it happened to the British Pound is not the issue but that it happened because the labour government of the day wanted the pound devalued so it could export more and all debs in £s were also devalued though debts in other currencies were increased and imports fell as a result. If the Thais think their currency is overvalued then it will bring in imports and deter exports . Its not omething that politicians take lightly and in todays world it would be risky but they can if they wish. -

They can do whatever they like its their currency . It was done to the UK pound back in the 60s by the Wilson government. https://www.google.com/search?q=devaluation+of+the+English+pound&sxsrf=ALeKk001NRABJ8mMqw2LGCkAXSbYMgGr2Q:1584504107127&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=HUvmNxPKMB7ZqM%3A%2C_UW4hC6jPhVUdM%2C_&vet=1&usg=AI4_-kQOqwYKRcY8vQ4Ki4jyFHQfeOwBlQ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwin6szjkaPoAhWIfMAKHd83B9oQ9QEwAHoECAoQAw#imgrc=HUvmNxPKMB7ZqM: -
I don't care what she was thinking , I was thinking that at 50 I would still do her as she looks good enough to eat.

why is this funny?.

last time I went it was first 5 or 10 minutes free and then a charge , but I can't remember what the charge was because we didn't have to pay . Dropping of is no problem 5 minutes is plenty but picking up needs careful planning by mobile phone so you don't leave your lift waiting. Personally I wait in the mcdonalds (2 minutes away) but if you don't buy something there you can be hit with a parking charge, so beware. It was on the tv programme watchdog

Lucky for me I have a son and a couple of mate and we drive each other to the airports as needed.
-
One other thing to be aware of is that the 21.10 flights all have 28 to 33 hours as the first leg and the return is a reasonable 15-16; whilst the 1500 flights are all 15-16 both ways. one other thing I checked ,or my son checked the buses from Chelmsford and I needed to go to colchester nd then Stansted but the journey takes 3 and a half hours and costs £40 with national express.
-
I can get £485 for a 2 month stay in april.thats a good price for Emirates.
-
I live in Chelmsford and can get to Stansted in 25, 35-40 in peak traffic) minutes it takes me 1 hour and 10 minutes with no traffic to get to Heathrow (Did it at middy just before xmas and it took me over three and a half hours for the round trip) and about the same to Gatwick , from Colchester where my son lives its 40 minutes to stansted and 1 hour and 50 minutes to Heathrow and Gatwick . so how you think its just as easy to use the other airports from essex is beyond me.One other thing although it may now be well out of date, but I heard that the landing fees at heathrow and gatwick were double that of Stansted and add to that the limited number of slots at the current heathrow and gatwick airports.

sorry about that I never noticed the cut and paste did not work fully.

Odd acts of kindness Thais seem to do.
sinbinjack replied to Butch's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I remember a few years ago falling over on beach road just at the bottom of soi 13 and 3 very small Thai's helped me back up to my feet, all together they didn't weigh a much as I do or did back then , and not one fellow farang even glanced my way . Now it might have been because they thought me drunk but I don't drink, I have Arthritis but the Thais were nothing but helpful in a situation they had no need to help with but help they did and their concern for me at the time seemed quite real. -
Two priests decided to go to Hawaii on vacation. They were determined to make this a real vacation, by not wearing anything that would identify them as clergy. As soon as the plane landed they headed for a store and bought some really outrageous shorts, shirts, sandals, sunglasses, etc. The next morning they went to the beach dressed in their 'tourist' garb. They were sitting on beach chairs, enjoying a drink, the sunshine and the scenery when a 'drop dead gorgeous' topless blonde came walking straight towards them. They couldn't help but stare. As the blonde passed them she smiled and said 'Good Morning, Father ~ Good Morning, Father,' nodding and addressing each of them individually, then she passed on by. They were both stunned. How in the world did she know they were priests? So the next day, they went back to the store and bought even more outrageous outfits. Once again, in their new attire, they settled down in their chairs to enjoy the sunshine. After a little while, the same gorgeous topless blonde came walking toward them. Again she nodded at each of them and said 'Good morning, Father ~ Good morning, Father,' and started to walk away. One of the priests couldn't stand it any longer and said, 'Just a minute, young lady.' 'Yes, Father?' 'We are priests and proud of it, but I have to know, how in the world did you know we are priests, dressed as we are?' She replied, 'Father, it's me, Sister Kathleen'

A couple went to the hospital to have their baby delivered. Upon their arrival, the doctor said that the hospital was testing an amazing new high-tech machine that would transfer a portion of the mother's labour pain to the baby's father. He asked if they were interested. Both said they were very much in favour of it. The doctor set the pain transfer to 10% for starters, explaining that even 10% was probably more pain than the father had ever experienced before. But as the labour progressed, the husband felt fine and asked the doctor to go ahead and kick it up a notch. The doctor then adjusted the machine to 20% pain transfer. The husband was still feeling fine. The doctor then checked the husband's blood pressure and was amazed at how well he was doing. At this point they decided to try for 50%. The husband continued to feel quite well. Since the pain transfer was obviously helping the wife considerably, the husband encouraged the doctor to transfer ALL the pain to him. The wife delivered a healthy baby with virtually no pain and the husband continued to experience no pain. She and her husband were ecstatic. When they got ho

It was George the Postman's last day on the job after 35 years of carrying the mail through all kinds of weather to the same neighborhood. When he arrived at the first house on his route, he was greeted by the whole family who congratulated him and sent him on his way with a tidy gift envelope. At the second house, they presented him with a box of fine cigars. The folks at the third house handed him a selection of terrific fishing lures. At the fourth house, he was met at the door by a strikingly beautiful woman in a revealing negligee. She took him by the hand, gently led him through the door, which she closed behind him, and took him up the stairs to the bedroom where she blew his mind with the most passionate love he had ever experienced. When he had enough, they went downstairs and she fixed him a sumptuous breakfast: Sausage, bacon, eggs, ham, black pudding, fried bread, baked beans, Danish pastries and freshly-squeezed orange juice. When he was truly satisfied, she made a large pot of English breakfast tea. As she was pouring, he noticed a pound coin in the saucer of his teacup. "All this was just too wonderful for words," he said, "But what's the pound coin for?" "Well," she said, "Last night, I told my husband that today would be your last day, and that we should do something special for you. I asked him what to give you. He said, 'Screw him. Give him a quid.' The breakfast was my idea." I was at a funeral today when I asked the priest for the WiFi code. He shouted, "Have some respect for the dead." I said, "Is that all in lower case?" Two crocodiles were sitting at the side of the river Thames in London......... The smaller one turned to the bigger one and said, "I can't understand how you can be so much bigger than me. We're the same age, we were the same size as kids... I just don't get it"......''Well,' said the big Croc, What have you been eating"...? "Politicians, same as you", replied the small Croc, 'And I can tell you how I catch them in the car park next to Parliament..... I crawl up under one of their posh cars and wait for one to unlock the car door. Then I jump out, grab them by the leg, shake the shit out of them, and eat 'em!' 'Ah!' says the big Crocodile, 'I think I see your problem. You're not getting any real nourishment. See by the time you finish shaking the shit out of a politician, there's nothing left but an asshole and a briefcase A Woodworm walks into a Pub and says "Where's the bar tender?" I just told my best mate how much I love Beyonce. He said "Whatever floats your boat". I said "No, that's Buoyancy." I went swimming earlier, and decided to take a sneaky pee at the deep end. The lifeguard must have noticed as he blew his whistle so loudly I nearly fell in! It's a 5 minute walk from my house to the pub. It's a 35 minute walk from the pub to my house. The difference is staggering I apologise for this one in advance. Why does the Norwegian navy have barcodes on the side of all their ships? So when they return to port they Scandinavian.

Go on AirBnB and use the filters to get close to what you want with 2 minutes checking I found half a dozen places in and around Pattaya that might serve your purpose , but without the exact knowledge of what you want and where you want it , the only person who could arrange it would be yourself. As for the Ladies , you ask the owner just as you would ask the hotel or condo manager. Its Pattaya after all no on will get offended and if they do then you wont want to do any business with them anyway. Remember that money is king in Pattaya and even when it isn't you don't have to spend it with people who are not open with you. Many AirBnB s are girl friendly and if you have the whole place to yourself why would the owners be picky if you are paying a $1000 for 10 days. PS even if you go to a condo , in august most places are still almost empty and the pools are very little used.

What is your Exchange rate "tipping point"?.
sinbinjack replied to Butch's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I don't and probably won't have a tipping point . as long as I can afford it I will have a month in Patts every year until I can no longer male the trip due to poor health . I see all the doom and gloom about how high the costs are and yes they are higher than they were but by the same token I have a lot more income now than I had on my first visit in 2003 when the rate was 69/70 to the £ . There is nowhere I know of with the weather I get in summer at the price I pay for a months holiday like Pattaya . I dont drink I very rarely now chase the ladies , not never and I am too tight to pay for lady drinks , so the costs for me of an enjoyable 30 day stay are extremely cheap as I stay in a condo rather than a hotel and have very humble requirements when it comes to food and entertainment I can quite easily, and usually do, spend less than £2000 on a 1 month stay in Pattaya whereas I spent almost £4000 on a 16 day jaunt to Canada and the USA where I did nothing other than watch Ice hockey. -
The Pattaya Beach Reclamation
sinbinjack replied to jacko's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Do you think anyone in Pattaya has consulted a civil engineer , you know someone who can predict the actions of the seas when the headland is changed . Looking at what is happening when the flooding comes its pretty clear no one has or they didn't listen . I would say they need to build a reef a couple of hundred feet out from the beach to stop the tides undermining all the work they are trying to do and a couple of Irish foremen to make sure the work is actually carried out to a decent standard , which from the pictures is not the case. 10 for effort 1 for what actually got done. -
The rate on the street.
sinbinjack replied to Chang_paarp's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I understand the urge to save money I am a Scot so tight with a penny , pounds get treated with reverence, but There are reasons why people are not en mass traveling to the places you are thinking of . That reason is for the long run there is a much better western type infrastructure in Thailand than in any of the countries you mention and whilst it might be a little less expensive over a short break it is much more relaxing for the long run to be in Pattaya . I stay for a minimum 1 month and often much longer , up to 4 and a half months, and whilst I could save money traveling elsewhere I would not get the same vibe or treatment I can get in Pattaya
