  1. I agree, the street feels very un-Pattaya-like. A few more street trees would be nice. Zoom in on Monster Shrimp: and on Cat Cafe:
  2. This might be an area you are not aware of. On the other hand, it might have been reported before, in which case please just ignore this post. If you travel along Pattaya Klang eastwards, roughly halfway between Harbor Mall and Sukhumvit Road you will see this sign on the left. If you look to the left, you will see Welcome Town. This is relatively new. There are all sorts of businesses there, from safe deposit boxes to a bread shop. This is what you will see if you walk down the road. Facing you at the end of the road is this gym, forcing you to turn right. That leads into the back of the Index Living Mall complex. If you had walked behind the gym, you would see this area, which looks more like workshops etc. than retail. Quite a few vehicles were travelling through Welcome Town, but I think they were using it as a cut-through on to Suk Road from Klang. However, the area was desperately short of customers, and I suspect it will turn out to be another Pattaya white elephant.
  3. Thanks. That's what I guessed. It is the communal wi-fi. I'm not here enough to warrant having my own.
  4. I've just done a speedtest on my condo block's communal wi-fi. It is showing a download speed of 7.08 Mbps. Is that good enough for your boxes to work, please?
  5. I'm hoping it will be possible to get into a restaurant, without booking, just to have a regular meal on Xmas day.
  6. TIT. With the right contact who, in turn, has a contact with the branch of a well known bank, all can be sorted. I think this is what the visa agencies do. But if you have the same access they have, you can cut out their fees.
  7. I understand that the cost is considerably less if you cut out the middleman.
  8. Per that link (my highlighting):
  9. The translations will be interesting. I am a great believer in that you don't get "aught for naught", so I think there is a catch here somewhere. Perhaps it locks you into a monthly contract.
  10. Yes, I held on for the same reason but, as usual, I got the timing all wrong. This morning, the rate at TT is 44.10.
  11. I managed to get 43.45 at TT this afternoon exchanging GBP. As well as taking a photocopy of my passport, they input my passport details into a computer program, and a transaction slip was printed out containing all my details as well as details of the transaction. This was a first for me.
  12. Passengers are getting bigger yet seats are getting smaller!
  13. I have been doing 6 return flights p.a. with EVA for the last few years and don't recognise your comments. EVA have refurbed their 'planes (a considerable improvement) and improved their food. Their timings are usually OK - sometimes a little late in departing but that is usually made up during the flight. As I said above, I should be surprised if they move to 10 abreast so soon after doing the refurbs. The main problem is popularity - the flights are usually between 95% and 100% full in economy.
  14. EVA on BR67 and BR68 routes have recently refurbed the interiors of most (possibly all) of the 'planes, with better screens, IFE and livery. Also, the IFE boxes which obstructed the footspace of aisle seats (except G) are no longer there. I'm surprised they have done this if there are imminent plans to reconfigure the seating.
  15. If, like me, you hadn't heard of this place before, Mr Google tells me it is on the darkside - Soi 89 Sukhumvit Road, Pattaya. http://www.aroipubrestopattaya.xyz/
  16. Sabai Inn was closed for many months for a refurbishment. Has any BM stayed there since it was completed?
  17. Contact details here: http://namstaxipattaya.com/
  18. Taken about one and a half hours ago at TT:
  19. I think it is unlikely you are going to get the info you are requesting here or any of the other Pattaya boards. Have you considered sending your bullet points to Pattaya International Hospital and Bangkok Hospital Pattaya?
  20. Should that be "was"?
  21. Country had most cases of any in Southeast Asia over last 3 months. PEOPLE in Thailand urgently need to help to control the breeding of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which transmit the Zika virus, Department of Disease Control chief Dr Amnuay Gajeena said yesterday. Provinces where people with the Zika virus are being treated were also instructed to immediately set up an emergency operations centre to |contain any outbreaks. Amnuay said his office had asked the Foreign Affairs Ministry to review available data and clarify the progress of the disease with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). The ECDC website cited Thailand as a "red alert" country with increasing or widespread Zika virus transmissions. The country has had the highest number of Zika patients in Southeast Asia within the last three months. The rise of detected Zika infections reflected growing awareness, disease-monitoring measures, diagnosis and information disclosures meeting international standards, Amnuay said. He said health officials continued to implement intensive measures to curb infections since the virus was declared a contagious disease under the 2105 Communicable Disease Act. Cases must be reported to govt The designation means that any detected cases must be reported to health authorities. Thailand is following the World Health Organisation's advice to fight the disease, Amnuay said, including implementing surveillance of epidemiology, vector conditions, newborn birth defects and related nervous system illnesses. Amnuay said all state agencies were cooperating in control efforts, including the Interior Ministry, which ordered provincial officials to work with the Public Health Ministry and inform communities about how to eradicate Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and larvae. Provinces where Zika infections had been detected had been told to set up district and provincial-level emergency operations centres, he added. The Zika virus causes fever, skin rashes, body aches and headaches, which normally clear up in one week. Although infections do not pose major health risks for most people, the virus can pose serious problems for pregnant women as epidemiological evidence suggests a link to birth defects called microcephaly and other brain deformities in foetuses. http://www.nationmultimedia.com/national/Thailand-on-red-alert-30294062.html
  22. Thanks, MM. Always useful to know where to get a good steak. I have mostly been disappointed in my quest in the last year. Just to be clear, you are referring to the "new" place in Soi Honey, aren't you (i.e. not the one in Lengkee)? What you had was on "special" but do they have anything similar on the regular menu, perhaps at a higher price?
  23. This is on the notice board in Block A, although none of the units mentioned are situated there. Shame there is no mention of price; maybe that means it is negotiable. There is a 'phone number given so I hope you can give the owner a call to find out.
  24. OK - I'll try to remember to look.
  25. I think that is more than you'd have to pay if renting directly from an owner (or through an outside agent). You could: * do a Google search to see if any agents have any units on their books (a very quick search came up with this - http://www.thailand-property.com/1-bedroom-condo-for-rent-in-central-pattaya-pattaya_544550),or * get back to the City Garden office, offer them what you want to pay, and ask that the offer be conveyed to the owner. It could be that the City Garden office is just handling units still owned by the developer (i.e. unsold units) and they want to maintain a price level. However, that would surprise me a little as it would mean the developer had fitted out the units. If 23 August is not too late for you, I could take a look on the notice boards and see if any rentals that fit your requirements are listed there.
