  1. I don't pay either in the UK so I suspect that the business models in the UK and Netherlands are different.
  2. Yes, I have often thought the same, particularly when I see them crossing Second Road.
  3. I have read several comments that this year is different in that the activities have continued long into the evening. What with that and the story of fish sauce and urine being added to the water, perhaps the authorities will act to rein it in next year. Ever hopeful!
  4. Curry was a surname. A takeaway was a mathematical problem. A pizza was something to do with a leaning tower. All potato crisps were plain; the only choice we had was whether to put the salt on or not. Rice was only eaten cooked in milk, as a pudding. Calamari was called squid and we used it as fish bait. A Big Mac was what we wore when it was raining. Brown bread was something only poor people ate. Oil was for lubricating, fat was for cooking. Tea was made in a teapot using tea leaves. These were never green. Sugar enjoyed good press in those days, and was regarded as being white gold. Cub
  5. Why does anyone "deserve" a return on their money? IMO a return on your savings account money is warranted only to counter the effects of inflation.
  6. If anyone is interested, there are further details on TV. Hope I'm allowed to post the link - http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/974982-pattaya-9-karat-condo-138-rooms-for-auction/
  7. If he's in his 80s, why wouldn't he simply spend the capital?
  8. The very white one was called "Only O", but wasn't right next door to Secrets: it was on Soi 15 between Windmill and Second Road (if that is the correct name of the main road at that point). Not sure it was open for more than about a month. It was very white, very bright and full of considerably overdressed coyotees. Pictures taken October 2015:
  9. Great report, Rhino. TFP. I'll try to get there if I'm up in that area.
  10. I've been into RHT a few times recently but doubt they'll see me again. 1. Apparently no chance of Bite Me food appearing on the menu 2. I (and others) have failed to get their wifi to work 3. They say they cannot make a wet latte coffee (latte no foam) 4. They don't offer iced coffee 5. The menu is mostly the sort of food I am happy to escape from when I leave England. Probably the place will appeal to sufficient people to succeed, but not for me José.
  11. I can help with the first question - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Upton
  12. Not good. Big Brother is gripping ever harder.
  13. I think you probably mean Art in Paradise (http://www.artinparadise.co.th/). If you do go there, try to take a girl with you, and a camera. The girls love having their pictures taken with the exhibits - which is the point of them (the exhibits, that is!). For a gentlemen's club, I'd recommend Kinnaree - probably the place with the most upmarket feel and which feels least like Soi 6.
  14. You can get an AIS SIM card from their shops at the airport (arrivals level) or the bottom floor of Central Festival Mall to deal with calls. You can then decide on which data package is most suitable for you, and top up the SIM card to give you that. Details here: http://www.ais.co.th/one-2-call/addon/en/internet4g_continued.html That is an impressive list of things you have done. Maybe you could consider things like - 1. An upmarket restaurant such as Bruno's (maybe early evening rather than day, unless you can find one open for lunch) 2. The new Central shopping mall near
  15. I was asking the same thing a few weeks ago and was recommended to install the "Grab" app on to my smartphone. It's like Uber, and I have been told that people on the Darkside use it a lot. https://www.grab.com/th/en/
  16. I agree. I have the same problem with many new movies, usually when they use CGI extensively.
  17. Your thought and, I imagine, that of most BMs.
  18. Probably a dumbo question but why not?
  19. If anyone wants to do a "walk-in", my advice would be to find the name and address of a potential hotel and put that on the Immigration form. Who is to say that the address requested is a firm booking rather than an aspiration?

    Bite Me!

I was at RH on 2 Jan, and the lady who I always thought was the lead waitress at BM was working there.
  21. My view of Robins Nest is that their Western food is of average quality but their Thai food is excellent. My favourite non-Thai dish there is the Mexican beef - really tasty.
  22. Thanks. It was the public service I had in mind.
