A bar will NOT screen World Cup Football

Interesting debate occured last night between a couple of the bar owners up here. If they decide to be World Cup football-free, would customers be more or less likely to go there.

 

They realise some people are deliberately going to Thialand because they think its far enough away to be safe from bunches of roudy football fans yelling support for their favourite teams. Other people just hate football and will leave any bar which switches the bar TV over to football.

 

To make the poll simple, we assume the bar is a good one, nice girls, good music and excellent beverages at a reasonable price. It's the kind of bar where the majority of visitors say, Hey,this is a great place, why haven't I been here before". It has reasonable sized TV screens and enough comfortable places to park your arse and knock back a beer or three.

 

The only pne thing to make your evening perfect is what is on the TV - they have World Cup coverage or they don't have World Cup coverage.

 

I vote "Football-free" since sitting in a bar screening hours of Football and boring old farts dicussing why some highly paid under-achiever missed an open goal is just mind-numbingly boring. Another guy in the discussion last night was absolutely appalled at the idea a bar would even not consider screening the Cup.

 

3 simple choices, have fun and let's see where we go on this one.

Im sure some peole dont like football, but the world cup is a universal event, the biggest sporting competition in the world.

 

An example, i was in samui a few years back and 2 beer bars, side by side.

 

One was showing the rugby world cup, one wasnt.

 

The one with that was showing was absoulutely jammed, it was an open air bar, and you could not even get close enough to order a drink.

 

The next bar had only fools and horses on, and did not have a customer, i went to this bar simply cos i could not get close enough to the other, ordered a drink and watched the game from a seat in this empty bar.

 

You look at plases like rosy o gradys when england are playing in the cup, you could not move its so packed.

For big Premiership games, my local team and England (Engerlaaand) international's I would choose a bar showing a game over a bar not showing a game. Same same for rugby internationals or other major sporting events. Minor sporting events such as Forest games and curling it would make no difference.

If its a game that is pretty low key then i'lll probably screen it, If its a game that will have lots of noise, people etc disrupting the music then no I'd turn the box off.

I'm going elsewhere to watch the games anyway.

No I do not watch the world cup or the european Cup

I have never attended a football match nor have any wish to, so a bar that wasn't showing football wouuld be my choice.

 

Saying that I do enjoy the Rugby and never miss an F1 Grand prix

If I was an American (or some other nationality that doesn't appreciate the beautiful game) then I would probably choose a non-footy bar to keep away from the uncouth mob.

 

But I'm British and I love watching football. When major games are on, I'll choose pubs with good screens that are showing the games and where you can hear the commentary. I am looking forward to watching the World Cup in Pattaya.

Rather watch the game with a few beers & a BG back in the room, than a packed bar full of swearing & the possabilty of a punch up.Thats not my idea of a good night out in Los.

Some of the bar girls can wet themselves with excitement watching football. Rhoel might be safer staying in a bar while the game is on.

I have followed World Cup football since '74 when I was in Munich at the time. Big sports events like this are great ice breakers with the guys in the bars. I spent a good bit of time watching rugby on my last trip, with the guys watching getting me up to speed on the rules.

 

I would stay in a bar showing a game versus one that didn't.

Some bars will show an alliance to a certain team in a sporting event. It's usually good for business and makes economic sense, so why not show it..?

 

For those who don't enjoy, I'm sure you can find another place to hangout for a night or two.

I'd avoid all bars showing football like the plague. Much the same as with any other sport.

Being an American I would avoid a bar with roudy fans watching soccer (football). I myself cannot get into the sport but understand that in all other countries it is one of the most important sporting events going. Now if it was real football , American style then I would sit and watch. Good time roudiness is okay as long as everyone is having fun. It is when it gets to the point where the roudiness turns to meaness that it loses its fun.

unfortunatley brits have a bad name and get bad press

strange as been in turkey for a local "derby" game and when home team lost the turks smashed up the hotel i was staying out. very scary.

It's hard to play a drinking game when watching soccer. The game where everyone takes a drink when something happens.........like a team scores.

 

I imagine you could get loaded though if you drank as much as you could until someone scored.
