For those of you who are interested here are a few pictures

of the house my wife and I had built in Thailand.

We had an excellent builder who also threw a few items for free. This was the

first house he had built in this province and wanted to use it as a "model" house

to drum up more business. Total cost of the house was approx 900,00 baht and is located

outside of Kampangphet. The house is 3bed/2 bath and is over 1300 sq ft.

Front of house--Unfortunately I don't have a photo of it totally completed.

There is a chrome railing that goes around the front porch. The porch

was done with tile and the 2 cement posts on the right side supports

a tinted glass roof. The extra high roof, wood decoration around roof, and the window

decorations (framing on the outside) were done for free by the builder.

Back side of house--the builder added on the back porch for free.

If you notice the electrial wiring we had that hidden inside and outside the house.

We also had them put extra weather proof outlets around the house as well as

extra water spigots.

A close up of the back porch.

Thailand_2008_1263.jpg

Living room area of house. We had all the floors in the main area as

well as the column in the middle done with marble. There is one aircon

unit in the living room and each bedroom has an aircon unit.

Thailand_2008_1298.jpg

Recessed ceiling in living room. This was done by the builder for free

as well as adding the recessed lights and dimmer lights.

Thailand_2008_1265.jpg

Curio cabinet and window into kitchen.

Thailand_2008_1271.jpg

Kitchen. All the counters are made out of marble. We decided

not to add the stove, refrigerator, and a few other things yet.

We will be adding those next time we go.

Thailand_2008_1267.jpg

One bedroom. Floors are of tile.

Thailand_2008_1268.jpg

2nd Bedroom.

I realized I don't have a picture of the master bedroom but it's pretty

much the same but quite a bit larger.

Thailand_2008_1273.jpg

Bathroom in master bedroom.

Thailand_2008_1269.jpg

2nd bathroom.

We will be putting in a couple of thousand more dollars to tweak it to the

way we like. The builder was an excellent person and we believe did a really

great job.

If your interested in the builder or any other info just pm me.

The house looks nice. Did you lease the land, or is it owned by you Thai wife? Secondly, do you have any idea what land goes for in that area?

I've been looking at condos, but have also entertained the idea of leasing a plot of land for 30 years and then having a small house built. In 30 years I'll be dead.

js007 we bought the land owned by my wife qof course and paid about 105,000 baht for

1 rai. It is right in the middle of the village. Not a very big village :drunk

pat-uk the cost was 900,000 baht a little less then $30,000 US

This house was done somewhat western style. He started construction

and when certain goals were met he got paid. He gave us an allowance for the marble

as his plan included tile we just paid the difference between the two costs.

Congratulations for having some sense. That is an ideal size house and any bigger makes no sense at all.

I love the look and the price of the house (I am a bit disturbed by the pink walls ,it's a personal thing)I would like to know though ,why is there a pillar in the living room?is it structural ,and if so why not use an RSJ for support .

Ok to answer everyones question about the color of the house

it is actually a peach color. For some reason in photos it comes out pink.

My wife chose the color she thought it would be a darker color but as

they say in Thailand Mai bpen Rai... It takes a couple of days and the

color grows on you. If you get out in the country side the new fashion

for house and building colors are some very bright colors so I

guess we are keeping up with the jones :allright

As to why there is a column in the middle of the house its either asthetic or for support.

We like the look of it ands some formality to the room (just a personal taste thing)

The roof is made from steel and has clay or concrete style tiles on top. I will

be the first to say I dont know crap about construction. Electrical and plumbing

I know about but thats it. The builder we used started out as an architecture and

then moved into general construction. He has done houses, major apartment buildings,

as well as commercial buildings. He has a lot of experience in his field. The house had

its annual inspections by the gov't inspection and was certified by the gov't. Whatever

the hell that means. :drunk I followed Gary's advice(thank you) and put in what I could

walk away from.

I spent what I wanted to and put my trust in the builder. I will say this I moved into a house

here in the states on June 07 and have had nothing but problems with it. It is under warranty

but damn :ang2 The only problems with the thai house I found on final inspection was 2 windows

that would not lock. They were fixed the next day and we have a 1 year warranty on the house.

Yes I do believe the builder will honor the warranty. I guess I just have faith in some people. :clap2

I will be posting pictures of the actual construction process (the few that I have)

Thanks for the good read and pictures. I believe you got a very good deal on the house. Your house is very similar to what I have in mind for our house, if we can find some land that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I do like the older Thai style house that looks very similar to our beach and river houses here in SE Texas. I DON'T like the old style toilet/shower and kitchen arraignments. I already had my share of cold "showers" when I was much younger.

Thanks again for sharing with us.

Is there any flooding concerns in that area ? Seeing the flat land around made me wonder. My GF likes the style with a house on stilts.....up on concrete posts. Seems they like to gather under the house, next to the rusting out-of-order motorcycles, chatting and eating. Plus it is up out of the way if there are floods.

  • 3 weeks later...

the first question, concerning the price,

how much metal/steal you got in your concrete, when the house was build.

Prices on the world market are exploding, not only in Thailand, and if they give you less steal in your concrete, the lifetime of your house will be reduced.

Is your builder also working in Pattaya ?

  • 1 year later...

Why the ceramic tiles on the outside verandah?

Somebody will slip and injure themselves on those when wet.

Marble column in the middle of the room? :D Are you Greek?

Location seems a bit desolate. Are you an Illegal Immigrant?

Yeah mine seems to be stuck on the single storey idea. They are most certainly cheaper to build but I always liked the idea of sleeping upstairs. There is more land left available, and an upper terrace/balcony would overlook any surrounding walls and provide a good view/ sitting/ beer chugging/ chill out area.

It's helpful during floods as well. :allright

That too......

I also like the Thai style where the house is up on stilts and there is a shaded open area below to gather when it is hot, sling a hammock, snooze and swing.

You didn't get that front lawn cheap from Wembley stadium did you ? :D

I like a few stairs too. Even Si's " Thai house" in my garden here at home, is up off the ground.

No too sure about the chance of flooding but here is a few photos of my TGFs block of land where we are planning to build and one of her current house.

Her aunt lives in the house next to the block of land.
