FWIW one man's opinion, if they're both cattle class, I'd take THAI. If you can get Eva's better economy, by all means take Eva but for that price you probably cannot. I like THAI atmosphere, gals, food just a tad more -- plus there's no chance the driver is making his first-ever stop at Bangkok airport, which give a bit more confidence. Especially going TO Thailand, THAI just seems a little more, well, smoother.

The other thing to consider is the timing -- departure and arrival convenience.

 You are kidding, right? You judge your flights based on how much they fly to a certain airport? :beer

biggrin.gif You are kidding, right? You judge your flights based on how much they fly to a certain airport? alright.gif

I would, sure as shit.

I am a private pilot, and I am ALWAYS, and by always I mean 100% and with absolutely no exceptions, a great deal more comfortable landing at my home airport. Even in heavy cross winds and gusting, which were fairly frequent where I learned to fly.

Get a pilot experienced with a particular airport and the landing will always go smoother, IMHO.

if it's EVA's Deluxe Economy I'd go with that one

Doubt very much it's the Premium Economy at £510. I'd go with EVA every time, especially if Thai still haven't upgraded their IFE on the 747s yet. Are they still using them on that route ? No doubt the experts on here will let us know. Think I'll take my chance, on the ridiculous suggestion, as to whether any particular pilot has landed at BKK previously. 1luv

EVA fly two types of plane to LHR, the Boeing 747 tent to be old whilst the Boeing 777 are newer and have seat back screens. Unless they have changed their policy type of plane for each day is a lottery; I once pre-booked an exit seat online on a 777 then when I got to the Gate at LHR I find it to be a 747; I complained on the plane and got to move.

Due to being one of their most popular routes Thai tend to fly there old 747s to LHR. Thai have though stated that they intend to operate there new Airbus A380 from BKK to LHR when they receive delivery but this isn’t till 2012 (no good for January, Villa).

Unless it is the EVA’s 777s there is very little difference between the two airlines (I’ve flown multiple times with both). I’d go with Thai for the Star Alliance miles but the EVA flight lands 10 minutes earlier 1luv

D You are kidding, right?

Absolutely not.

You judge your flights based on how much they fly to a certain airport? allright

Absolutely.

Bet your axx. So to speak. Familiarity breeds knowledge and safety.

There are other factors in choosing my flight, but that is definitely one - the hometown theory actually works.

Your theory goes out the window because the actual pilot(s) may be new. How do you know that there aren't new pilots working for an airline that flies into a certain airport? You book your flight based on how many times he/she has flown? Can you even check that information? Even if you could, how do you know which pilot will fly that day?

And another thing, he/she is a PILOT, not a DRIVER. :D

You can choose the airline, but can you choose the pilot?

Have flown both countless times. Both come out about equal in my book. I usually decide on price. Departures from LHR are usually around the same time for the night flights. However, I dont recall ever getting a night flight on the return journey with Eva.

Thats not a bad price villa, so don't dally on deciding or you will loose it.

Flown with both and preferred EVA. The "hello kitty" girls are beautiful and the planes are very comfortable, even in economy. The flights leave Heathrow at 2130 which is the better time to fly IMHO.

Now you are joking, right? "New pilots" for THAI who fly international routes have made quite a lot of landings at Bangkok airports -- quite a lot. All of them, no exceptions. Not as many as "old pilots" for THAI, but lots more than most pilots for most other airlines -- although not all, perhaps.

And another thing, he/she is a PILOT, not a DRIVER. allright

Don't you know ANYTHING about Thai Airways? There is absolutely no such thing as "she" who is a pilot. Bangkok Airways, yes. Sheesh.

Gee Zeus. You are actually serious. Hard to believe.

Joe,

The problem occurs when the Thai pilot is making his first landing at Heathrow. :allright

Up until last year IFE on Thai was still a central screen in the cabin and anyone over 6 foot in the seat in front of you meant you could see nothing.

FFS that was the standard flying to New York in 1984 on TWA

I could be out of date now though as on my previous 5 trips it has been EVA or Etihad.

Yes, BA train their pilots to land the plane anyplace, and Heathrow, when not on strike.

Thai only take off and go in a big circle do they?
