Thai Air LAX to BKK nonstop

Recommended Posts

when I took that flight out of LAX there were about a dozen rows by the windows that had nobody sitting there. The Thai stewardesses went up and down the rows asking THE THAIS if they wanted to move to those empty rows so that they would have a row all to themselves. The falangs were not offered. Screw that, I'll never fly then again.

I have heard rumour of a double pricing policy ex Thailand, not sure on that one.

I always felt the Thais around me in many restaurants got served ahead of me, but hey, their country.

Certainly could be. Then again, if I see an empty area I get up and move.

Carpe Diem.

If a flight attendant wants to deal with my heart condition and bad knee, etc., (and all the other stuff I will suddenly be concerned with) I will get up and move back.

Remember the old adage: "It is much easier to beg forgiveness, than get permission".

Pretty sure not, not on THAI. Lots of airlines to the East and West have it - for two reasons. First is to soak the rich tourists. Second is that the currency is total xrap and they couldn't get ANY local passengers if they charged the equivalent in dollars. (And rich tourists have to pay in dollars of course.) Vietnam for sure. I think China has that in lots of places.

THAI does advertise in-country specials in Thai, in publications aimed at Thais. For those who are sharp enough to watch for them, they sell them to foreigners as fast as to Thais, I've never heard of THAI discriminating that way.

Here here. All the flights I've taken over the last several years have been absolutely full, at least for the oceanic leg - but anytime I have seen empty rows on a long flight, as soon as they close the door I move (along with everybody else trying to the same thing). And sometimes somebody else moving actually leaves me with an empty row. 'Have never seen a flight attendant on any airline pay any attention whatsoever.

Well I waited to see if the prices would drop a bit on the Thai nonstop, and they did - by about $50. Not really that much.

But I have decided to postpone my trip. There is just too much going on now with the flooding and all. I don't expect the water to reach the airport or Pattaya. But for my first return trip in over 3 years, I would rather this hassel be over. And I would like to visit BKK as part of the trip. So I am looking at going in the spring (Mar?). Note: the LAX-BKK nonstop on Thai is over $1600 then, so I will be flying some other carrier unless it falls to current pricing. EVA is a better option at $977. I'll pay a couple of hundred for the convenience of a nonstop, but not $600. That buys a lot of ST!

I don't think I would ever pay Thai Air's price for economy, but I have yet to find a better price for executive economy. Thai's executive economy seats are almost par with American Airlines business seats a few years ago before AA upgraded them to almost lay flat.

Yep. Thai Air Premium Economy is tolerable. Something like $2000 from LAX vs. an economy fare in the $1300 range. Sometimes, it's worth it. At least you don't go insane in the economy seats.

well I found the perfect fit for me. I used up the last of my frequent flyer miles to get a first class RT ticket in Feb on Delta. I have to stop in NRT, but flying first is worth it. For 120,000 miles,+ $86 (tax) I got a flight that priced out at $5700 if I paid for it. I guess the nonstop will have to wait till next trip.

I once got a trip from Houston to London on Delta in their Biz/First (they only had coach and this Biz Class, but it was pretty close to a First Class to me). It was very good, quite different from their domestic crappy coach. Sadly those working days are behind me and the last of my 'miles' flew me First on BA, LHR-BKK. Doubt I would ever spring that much on a First ticket myself. Just $86 taxes? Edited by jacko

Delta calls their top class "business elite", but it actually tickets as business or first. To be honest, the level of service is the same and is the best you are going to get on Delta. I am sure other (asian) airlines have better top service, but this is tons better than economy.

My FF miles are also left over from work. I recently got laid off, so now with time available its off to the LOS. There's always a silver lining! But that's the last of my miles. I'll be in cattle class after this trip.

As to the $86 tax, in the US we have to pay a small tax even if the flight is "free" (bought with miles). This usually much less than the hundreds that are paid as tax on "paid" flights. I am sure there are some BMs that have a much more detailed breakdown, but that is the simple version.

My comment was really meant to say $86 is very cheap. Low taxes. I believe my last mileage ticket cost me approx $300 some years ago (ex-UK). It would be somewhat more these days I bet.

Generally speaking US Air transport taxes and fees are much lower than Europe.

For international flights the biggest fees are the arrival and departure tax of US$16.30 each and facility/security charges of $7.00 per terminal you depart from.

The tax is 7.5% of ticket fare, but since there is no ticket fare on FF tickets, the tax = $0

Of the $86collected 700 baht goes to the Thai government.

That, roughly, leaves about $2 is various other taxes and fees if the round-trip included a stop-over within US.

MY last FF ticket I paid a little but had no stop-overs.
