Sportman's on soi 13....

Recommended Posts

Good review.

Your comment about the corn reminds me of what my Danish grandmother used to say about pumpkin, she considered pumpkin stock feed not suitable for humans as that was what they use them for when she grew up. She worked out how to cook them after a time in Australia. Different cultures, different foods.

Walked past there the other night and the place was doing well.

Last time I ate there was for the Sunday roast I think, all well, good service.

Pork ribs are commonplace and do mostly taste of the sauce served with them, it is all a matter of the amount of meat on them.

It is a bit of an optical illusion of course, looks huge when presented but is mostly bones. and leaves an unappetising appearance when completed as does wings or KFC, like a prehistoric bone-yard.

The soi 13 Sportsman has been there quite a few decades now and seems to have remained popular and of a good standard.

Nice review Gabor. I have been to the Sportsman many times over the years but never thought about them for ribs, will have to pop in and give them a go.

Those ribs must be beef ribs. They look too big to be pork ribs.

Is Robins Nest in Soi Diana under the same ownership as The Sportsman? I'm sure I read that somewhere but might have been a while ago.

Anyway, spurred on by this report I went in search of pork ribs at Robins Nest last night (thinking common ownership might mean same product) and for the first time in several visits there was disappointed with what they served up.A very very very fat-laden product. Very unlike what is illustrated above.

Might try the Sportsman soon if it's not too busy outside...the smoking on the terrace tends to put me off eating there even though it has an outside space the smoke always seems to find its way up my nostrils.

The other thing I notice about the Sportsman is how unhealthy the customers seem to be! The last thing any of them would seem to be involved with is sport.

Any cow with rib bones that skinny would break them regularly breathing.

Those are definitely pork regular ribs, just not the St. Louis or Chinese style short ribs.

Steve the major owner of Sportsman took over the Robins Nest. I don't know which partners if any he brought in or if he still has anything to do with The Sportsman. Dave is the main day to day guy.

Anyone who eats 7/11 sandwiches is certainly not qualified to be a food critic........... :yikes:

Nothing gets my motor running better in the morning than a mug of coffee and a 7/11 ham and cheese toastie.

I love different types of cuisine on offer in Pattaya , but I too find the odd cheese butty hits the spot ,

If it is that awful Australian Allowrie processed stuff you can forget it.

Can't get the bloody sticky goo out of the plastic wrapper. Can't believe I bought some more of the shite!

Partial to a few Ham and Cheese sarnies for lunch myself.

Indeed , i too love a nice ham & cheese with onion toastie at any time really as long as i make it myself and i know what's going in it , but i would not touch those supermarket sarnies with a barge pole , they are IMO total shite.........!

Any suggestions for the best supermarket for Brit. style Cheddar cheese ("mousetrap") nowadays? I always used to use Tops, but that option is gone nowadays.

I just buy the regular stuff Tesco stocks, but I guess the best selection would be Big-C-X.

Don't Tops have a store in The Central Festival Beach Rd....?

Can you find your favourite in here and have 18 packs delivered?

The stuff I liked (I think it was an Anchor "breezeblock") was sold "loose" on the deli counter, but I hadn't realised that they have just re-located, so I'll check out the Tukom location.
