Titties ( ? ) On Jomtien... The Australian pie restaurant.

Gabor, thanks for the review. Maybe you haven't had Puff Pastry on a pie before, but that is quite normal in Australia. Short Crust pastry is usually used for the base and puff pastry for the top.

His pastries are very good...light, flaky, tasty...I've no problem with them at all.

My son boards at school in Australia......(Long Story involving his schoos l'st XI).......So he knows his pies.

 

Took him to Tinnies and no complaints.

I had been to Tinnies before and had not been impressed. Not certain what I had, but seem to remember it being dry and lacking taste.

 

Based on the spectrum of favorable reviews, I decided to give them another try and was glad I did. I had the beef, cheese and bacon pie. It was quite tasty and moist with a filling of finely ground beef along with the cheese and a bit of bacon. You could tell the cheese was there by taste rather than visual inspection.

 

I had mashed potatoes and peas along with the pie. I used the gravy provided on the potatoes rather than on the pie.

 

It wasn't a huge meal, but that's a plus for me.

I think it's called Tinnies. A tinny in Australian is a can of beer.How that relates to pies I don't know.

 

A tinny in modern Aussie lexicon is also a small metal boat used to go fishing, the use of it to refer to beer cans went out with Barry McKenzie. Again hard to see the relationship with meat pies other than that they are often consumed on the travel to and from fishing trips occasionally with beer.
