  1. @PoolHustler posts here and he rents out various vehicles.
  2. I don't know that because schools have been closed. And by the way it has been happening. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/more/science-and-research/transmission_k_12_schools.html During the study period, the researchers identified nine clusters of COVID-19 cases involving a total of 13 educators and 32 students at six of the elementary schools. (A cluster was defined as at least three linked cases of COVID-19.) It is a contagious virus that spreads like colds and flu. The kids bring such back home from school... I can only think of a doctor's waiting room being as bad. (Or a sports venue).
  3. Too right, hate when my bony ass starts to ache and we are only 2-3 hours into the 11.......
  4. Yes but more generally I would expect schools to be a risk even if those attending are not likely to develop serious symptoms. I am old enough to remember how even nits could spread through a school.....
  5. I was concerned that kids were a line of communication that needs to be considered, the kids themselves do not appear to get sick. School closure seems to have been an important factor in the UK lockdown approach... but hard to say which components in a package of many yielded the main benefit. It is possible too that the studies are not there to make any claims, but I do fear the approach of claiming a lack of empirical data substantiates anything. Scientists seem to generally see school closures as of little benefit restricting Covid. Data on the effects of school closures on COVID-19 are limited as the pandemic is still under way, but researchers at University College London said evidence from flu epidemics and outbreaks caused by other coronaviruses suggests their impact on the spread of the disease will be small.
  6. Will teachers not have been vaccinated already? I thought the issue would likely be the kids spreading it amongst themselves and taking it home.
  7. Thanks, much appreciation for the effort. An all round post, updating us on Bangkok, some examples of great dining, and a lovely lady to round it off!
  8. I did Qatar in Biz on Dreamliners, very good flights.
  9. Who is most of us? I think quite s few guys would take up the offer you mentioned, particularly if it also bypassed quarantine requirements. The recent engine loss was on a 777-200. So also puzzled by concerns relating to a Dreamliner.
  10. I am not surprised, I was on Tai yesterday, it is not suitable for traffic.
  11. Thais don't eat beef much, except in the south. Is the expat market big enough?
  12. Some off topic and replies removed.
  13. I have a 5 speaker system. Only time the rear ones get any work is with a DVD and these days that is old hat. More modern approach is a single sound bar under your TV. Doubt I would miss those rear speakers too much.
  14. Had 2 short early showers very early out by my area.... but nothing much.
  15. On my UK visits to Greggs, I usually find it only on some types of sausage rolls. (I love baked savouries when back there). Pasties and meat pies are usually water pastry. Those dainty little meat pies, called whist pies in my area, are my favourites. Too many times I have gone into Wethersppons to indulge in another favourite, with a stain on my shirt due to a meat pie clumsily handled. Saliva has been induced here in Pattaya....
  16. I was of the opinion gas was not allowed in condos.... the bottle would have to be out on the balcony and you would be limited as to where a range could be placed.
  17. North of town is attractive too around Nong Plalai... close to Hwy 36, the motorway and The Regents School.
  18. It is well still dark at that time..... but bad news nevertheless.
  19. So how many is that, 4 posts to be way off topic, talk about Chinese whispers?.
  20. Hundreds of investors caught in massive Kasikorn Bank branch fraud in Pattaya. https://thethaiger.com/news/pattaya/hundreds-of-investors-caught-in-massive-kasikorn-bank-branch-fraud-in-pattaya
  21. Pop round to the newer HomePro on Sukhumvit, beds out front and inside the store . Not cheap though and sometimes (often) not really 'in stock' and you will have some goon getting stuck in traffic keeping you at home all day.
  22. I thought a lot of places had a ban on this..... Also many balconies I have been on are small, filled up with crap and AC units, and bedsheets at 180x180 cm or so need a good amount of space.
  23. Usually you would need a dryer too as there is little space to hang up your bedsheets to dry in a 60m2 condo..... and they require an exhaust to outside unless they can condense too. I recall travelling around Thailand using laundries where I could, it was a problem as some places would not accept the wife's smalls..... kinda odd.
  24. Not necessarily. I believe some Europeans (eg Scandinavians and yes Americans) can sometimes have some worldwide cover from their home countries, worth it's weight in gold if it provides comprehensive cover. Maybe these are all courtesy of their former employment. Other that that I would expect that you are correct.... go see an insurance broker when you get here. Over 75 years you can have cover, but that cover will usually be with a company you were with prior... they limit new customers to a certain age. But it is an expensive item some forego. Many 'self insure', ie keep a healthy bank balance to cover eventualities. Certain Visa types actually require this too, a healthy maintained bank balance, that actually you are not meant to spend on anything oddly enough. There is also a visa class that requires medical insurance... both of these associated with what is called a retirement extension, how many live here. Another topic.......
  25. The annual costs of insurance policies go up with age.... so no real advantage of getting in early than the cover, BUT you need to get in before the cut off age for new customers... mostly around 75 yo. Some policies include cover for trips overseas from Thailand, but beware the USA is often excluded due to the high costs there. There are some care facilities in Thailand these days.... and one could rent a nurse to come to your own place. (http://www.rentanurse.asia/) Generally, I would say Thailand is not a place to be with poor health.... I do not think much of the available insurance, and the better hospitals, may well be cheap by USA levels, but can cost a lot.
