On November 7th, 1920, in strictest secrecy, four unidentified British bodies were exhumed from temporary battlefield cemeteries at Ypres, Arras, the Asine and the Somme. None of the soldiers who did the digging were told why. The bodies were taken by field ambulance to GHQ at St-Pol-Sur-Ter Noise. Once there, the bodies were draped with the union flag. Sentries were posted and Brigadier-General Wyatt and a Colonel Gell selected one body at random. The other three were reburied. A French Honour Guard was selected and stood by the coffin overnight of the chosen soldier overnight. On the morning of the 8th November, a specially designed coffin made of oak from the grounds of Hampton Court arrived and the Unknown Warrior was placed inside. On top was placed a crusaders sword and a shield on which was inscribed: "A British Warrior who fell in the GREAT WAR 1914-1918 for King and Country". On the 9th of November, the Unknown Warrior was taken by horse-drawn carriage through Guards of Honour and the sound of tolling bells and bugle calls to the quayside. There, he was saluted by Marechal Foche and loaded onto HMS Vernon bound for Dover. The coffin stood on the deck covered in wreaths, surrounded by the French Honour Guard. Upon arrival at Dover, the Unknown Warrior was met with a nineteen gun salute - something that was normally only reserved for Field Marshals. A special train had been arranged and he was then conveyed to Victoria Station, London. He remained there overnight, and, on the morning of the 11th of November, he was finally taken to Westminster Abbey. The idea of the unknown warrior was thought of by a Padre called David Railton who had served on the front line during the Great War the union flag he had used as an altar cloth whilst at the front, was the one that had been draped over the coffin. It was his intention that all of the relatives of the 517,773 combatants whose bodies had not been identified could believe that the Unknown Warrior could very well be their lost husband, father, brother or son... THIS is the reason we wear poppies. We do not glorify war. We remember - with humility - the great and the ultimate sacrifices that were made, not just in this war, but in every war and conflict where our service personnel have fought - to ensure the liberty and freedoms that we now take for granted. Every year, on the 11th of November, we remember the Unknown Warrior. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

Last Monday, Nov 5 my wife and I attended an event in Hollywood hosted by the LA Times. On a small stage was Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman), Co-creator Peter Gould and executive producer Thomas Schnauz. Giancarlo Esposito (Gus Fring) was supposed to attend but did not show. Peter and Thomas revealed that a feature film based on Breaking Bad in the works. Apparently most of the original cast is signed. They expressed remorse at losing one key producer to the "Deadwood" film in production. They talked about what a challenge the first season of BCS was. How they got a bit carried away trying to set it up and develop the characters, etc. "We got a little too detailed and carried away perhaps. Took a season and into the next to get where we wanted." Bob Odenkirk was a kick very dynamic, hyper like his character. Apparently he got his start in stand up comedy. He left early "because I have a "Get Out The Vote" event in fucking Orange County" (this was election eve). Spoiler Alert: If you have not finished season 4 might be best not to read below: One thing Bob talked about was how much he enjoys doing the show. "It was a ball playing Jimmy McGill. Dull at times playing the part of a guy trying to be a button down conservative lawyer like his brother At the end of season four we metamorphosed from Jimmy to Saul Goodman, the conniving, break every rule slimeball attorney. In season 5, I pull out all the stops. Insane, absolutely wild and crazy. Everything leading up to Breaking Bad.....(I paraphrase of course)" It sounded quite exciting. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/tv/la-en-st-better-call-saul-live-20181108-story.html ‘Better Call Saul’ team discusses endgame plans and another potential character death By LOS ANGELES TIMES STAFF NOV 08, 2018 | 1:45 PM "Better Call Saul" star Bob Odenkirk, left, and co-creator Peter Gould take part in an Envelope Live screening and discussion at the Montalbán. (Michael Owen Baker / For The Times) Five years after "Breaking Bad" went off the air, its universe is alive and well with news that a feature film based on the Emmy-winning drama is in the works. But is the end of the road in sight for its prequel series, "Better Call Saul"? Co-creator Peter Gould and executive producer Thomas Schnauz played it (somewhat) coy but also offered some very telling hints when discussing "Saul's" lifespan at an Envelope Live event Monday at the Montalbán in Hollywood. Play Video "Breaking Bad" lasted five seasons. "Better Call Saul" just wrapped Season 4. Is the end in sight? Co-creator Peter Gould reveals his feelings about the prequel's possible endgame at the Envelope Live. Star Bob Odenkirk was also on hand for the screening of the Season 4 finale, which Gould and Schnauz co-wrote. The episode was followed by a conversation with Times TV reporter Yvonne Villarreal. Los Angeles Times writer Yvonne Villarreal moderates a discussion at The Times' Envelope Live screening of "Better Call Saul" at the Montalbán with actor Bob Odenkirk, second from left; co-creator/executive producer Peter Gould; and writer/executive producer Thomas Schnauz. (Michael Owen Baker / For The Times) Season 4 of "Better Call Saul," which wrapped in October, represented a pivotal point in the larger timeline of the "Breaking Bad" universe. The finale ended with Odenkirk's Jimmy McGill beginning his transition into the Saul Goodman that "Breaking Bad" viewers know so well. "I loved the energy of that ending," Odenkirk said. "It's literally what these four years have been building up to." However, the Emmy-nominated actor also admitted he had some hesitations about the pivotal moment as well. Play Video "Better Call Saul" star Bob Odenkirk talks about Jimmy McGill stepping over the line and his transition into alter ego Saul Goodman at an Envelope Live screening. As if two identities weren't enough, Odenkirk also shared his thoughts on more potential appearances for Cinnabon employee Gene — the persona that Jimmy takes on after the events of "Breaking Bad." Play Video "Better Call Saul" star Bob Odenkirk discusses what may happen to "Gene," Jimmy's Cinnabon manager identity. But as Jimmy marches closer to his "Breaking Bad" fate, many of the show's viewers are worried about what the future holds for longtime love Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) — and whether she'll meet a grisly fate not unlike that of Jimmy's brother, Chuck. While Gould noted that "this story is in a lot of ways a tragedy" — eliciting boos from the crowd — he also offered some mildly optimistic notes to worried viewers. Play Video What will happen to fan favorite Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn)? "Better Call Saul" executive producers Thomas Schnauz and Peter Gould offer some insight into what the future might hold at the Envelope Live. Supposedly he is. All the main characters too. Me too. Monday night my wife and I were up in Hollywood at an event when we heard the news. My wife never swears. She turned to me and said "Cocksuckah" in her best Chinese accent, giggling away. Absolutely one of our all time favorites!

Good news for fans of the HBO Series "Deadwood". A movie featuring at least 12 of the original cast members, set ten years later has gone into production! https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/deadwood-movie-hbo-ian-mcshane-timothy-olyphant-trailer-release-date-a8619736.html The plot synopsis is currently rather cryptic, with HBO revealing: “The indelible characters of the series are reunited after 10 years to celebrate South Dakota’s statehood. Former rivalries are reignited, alliances are tested and old wounds are reopened, as all are left to navigate the inevitable changes that modernity and time have wrought.”

Increasing Indian presence

Good one! -
Better Call Saul is not quite as wild and outrageous as BB. More nuanced.. Well written, superb production values. Cinematography, editing on par with BB. Watching the character development of Saul and others who appear in BB is special. We are halfway through the current season and really enjoy it!

Literally Boarding now....longest commercial flight 19 hours
BigusDicus replied to Rawhide2's topic in Airline Discussion
I assume you are talking about the LAX/BKK Thai flights? I flew that route quite a bit myself. Awesome! What a difference it made, nonstop versus connecting. I too remember a couple of flights back well under 14 hours. -
Amazing video EP. Nice find. Just so you know I am stealing it and posting it in the political section.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—In an emergency, overnight referendum, the American people voted on Thursday to replace the United States Senate with a room full of monkeys throwing feces. The measure passed with 57% of the vote. 22% of voters thought the Senate should be replaced by barking seals, while 17% voted that the replacement should be the pit of venomous snakes from Indiana Jones. 3.97% voted that Senate members be replaced by screaming goats. "About 100 people" voted for the current Senators to keep their jobs, with this tiny voting bloc centered in Washington, D.C. Highland Ape Rescue out of West Virginia will be teaming up with Cornwell Primate farms to supply hundreds of monkeys and apes to the Senate. The animals will be fed a nutritious mixture of foods that produce easily throwable feces. Protective glass will be put up around the Senate for camera crews to safely film, but anyone being interviewed by the new senators will have to sit in the middle of the poo-flinging octagon, coming under a heavy barrage of projectile excrement. “It will be a huge improvement from how things were before,” said ape trainer, Marlena Henwick. “No more 10-12 hour hearings. With these monkeys, all the fecal projectiles will have been flung in under 30 minutes. One and done.” The recently replaced senators will be placed on display at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. for families to park attendees to observe and zoologists to study.

Hilton or Avani (Marriott) which is better ?
BigusDicus replied to soisurfer's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I like the Soi13 area. I stayed at the Avani a few times when it was the Marriott. Comfortable, as someone mentioned you are almost in a cocoon. If you are taking a babe it makes sense. I usually stay at the Whitehouse Condotel. Can cross 2nd, have the Avenue Mall, another block or two the Soi Buakhao. Or walk along Beach Rd to Walking St. 10 min walk, 15 stroll. Hilton is a much longer walk. Probably twice the time. Sometimes there is very bad traffic on Beach Rd. You can walk faster than the baht buses. Have never stayed at the Hilton. Looks very nice. Has some very nice restaurants between it and the attached mall. Soi 7 beer bars close, closer to Soi 6, etc. My preferences for Walking Street makes Soi 13 my preference. -
ZITHROMAX (azithromycin) question
BigusDicus replied to Firepole's topic in Doctors, Dentists, Clinics and Hospitals
I have met several UK physicians over the years who "moonlight" on the weekends, etc in Germany where the "pay is so much better". Re heart surgeon: In S Cal I used to have a neighbor who comes from a family of heart surgeons (his father is a partner in a major practice). Roughly 10 years ago he told me that the average remuneration was getting close to $1 million. I would assume it is past that at this point. -

ZITHROMAX (azithromycin) question
BigusDicus replied to Firepole's topic in Doctors, Dentists, Clinics and Hospitals
Yes it is true. Part of the reason is insurance companies pride themselves on lowering costs. The usually will only pay a minor percentage of stated costs. So the doctors and hospitals mark things up much over what they actually expect to receive. It lets the insurance companies look good.... -
Here's a quote I saw on Twitter today: "I returned a pair of Nike shoes today, to the store from where I bought them. I asked for my money back. The clerk, politely asked, 'What is wrong with them?' I said, 'They hurt my feet when I stand for the National Anthem'." Priceless!
