  1. For god's sake don't use Australian banks for currency exchange. They give you a terrible exchange rate and then charge you a fee for your effort. Others might be able to give better advise but I would buy USD in Pattaya or Singapore if you are travelling through there. Remember you will need a range of denominations as you will get change in local currency. There are some trip reports that will cover this part.
  2. Actual documented ownership is also a challenge with that mob. Andrew Drummond has dedicated a large slice of cyber-space to New Nordic and a number of related companies than have a similar attitude to ethics and honesty.
  3. I think this will explain all the optimism. Invest with New Nordic!!! What can go wrong?
  4. There is a business opportunity there. Getting quality input could be a challenge.
  5. Thank you. It was the cartoon one I was thinking of. So it would appear that there in no shortage of water parks in the Pattaya area.
  6. There was one supposed to be close to Nung Nuch that opened recently, but this appears to be a different one again as it is opening about now. I'm confused, but that is not hard.
  7. Not that different to going out with some Thai folk. The lunch cost less than 2000 peso so we are not talking huge amounts of money. I cost more to take the GFE, her daughter and partner to Art In Island, or that dodgy Ferris Wheel at Mall of Asia.
  8. Went to the Manilla Ocean Park which is on the harbour down from Rizal Park. It has an aquarium and other attractions, was a good way to spend an afternoon. I chose not to book online and got the same specials by going to the general admission section. It took less time to do than those who were collecting their online booked tickets.
  9. Part 4, Infanta cont. Time now to go and visit mother's sister. Another trip through rice fields followed, then about thirty minutes later and following some debate someone had the bright idea of ringing mother's sister to get directions. Well it seems she was not home and would not get there for some time, she was out shopping as she had not been able to get out for a few days due to the mess caused by the storm. Oh and by the way you were supposed to come on Saturday. It seems no one had told her of our change of plans. No worries there are a couple of parks and attractions
  10. Part 3 With the passing of the typhoon it was decided we could finally go to Infanta, so plans were made for a single day return trip. We had to leave the hotel at stupid o'clock (about 3am) and catch a cab to meet the family and Jeepney crew outside a Jollibee at 4 or 5am. So we are off! Into the darkness we plunge. Through the outer suburbs of Manila and into the countryside the jeepney roars. After an hour or so we stop for breakfast and then into the dawn, up into the mountains and through some very winding and narrow roads. About 11 we arrived in I
  11. Continued Paco Park was followed by a trip to Fort Santiago. This excursion was inspired by a trip report by Firth1974. (My photos are not up to his.) Another place worth a visit, it takes a couple of hours to have a good look around. The larger area with the cathedral and other historic buildings is interesting to investigate, we left in a hurry as there was another storm coming. Wikipedia describes the place thus; Fort Santiago (Spanish: Fuerte de Santiago; Filipino: Moóg ng Santiago) is a citadel first built by Spanish conquistador, Miguel López de Legazpi for the new established
  12. In August 2015 I went to Manilla for a visit and spend some time with a DIA lady I had been chatting with for a while, I had been to Manilla with her a couple of years previously. She works as a maid in Singapore and was going home for a couple of weeks so I thought why not join her for a week of GFE. I flew Jetstar, the discount arm of Qantas, and being a Cheap Charlie I opted for the hand held baggage only, as I don't need to take much for a week and it can all fit into a day pack that qualifies as cabin luggage. The flight times were almost human with departure from Perth after 8am
  13. Great images Chris. Some of those cos-play characters need to visit Harajuku to learn some Japanese style. Oh and a Weight Watchers membership would not go amiss for a number, maybe they would qualify for a group discount..
  14. The Honorary Consulate in Victoria Ave closed a few years ago and it looks like it has been replaced by a new consulate that is a member of the Thai foreign service. That web site looks like something from the Thai Foreign Service. The old Hon Consulate staff could not read, write or speak Thai. The staff were a couple of falang ladies who were very helpful and would issue visas very easily. The Hon consul was a falang lawyer who had the concession to sell Australian beer in Thailand for a while. An interesting bunch to chat with.
  15. Perth consulate is closed, unfortunately. They were great for visas. There seems to have been a policy to close the honorary consulates. To the OP, a return flight to KL is doable in a day if that is what you want to do. Cambodia is also an option.
  16. I have stayed at the Best Western Oxford Suites, it is OK if a little tired. I stayed a little way from the action, last year as I had a GFE and stayed at The Oasis Paco Park. It is recently renovated with the better rooms being a large step up from their basic rooms worth the extra couple of $ per night. Also stayed at The Pearl Manilla on the last trip and was not impressed, would almost put it on the avoid list as it is very tired. Location is OK but still got the '70s decor. There is a nightlife district behind the Robinsons Mall which is a short walk from either hotel (althou
  17. It is not sold until the money is in your hands. Until then it is in the process, there has been an offer or promise to buy, and it can all go to mud. Hope you got your price.
  18. I was expecting something along the lines of this; http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-06-21/python-found-mission-beach-bedroom-north-queensland-monty/7530776
  19. The Thai word "hoi" covers snails and muscles unfortunately you got the direct translation without intelligence. On the the Thai menu it might have had a fuller description as to which type of hoi.
  20. I had a technique when they came into my camera shop. As they asked for lower prices I increased the price. It had the desired affect and they either accepted the posted price or they left, most of my staff used to refuse to serve Indians for this reason, unfortunately having a business in a tourist area meant dealing with them.
  21. Mythbusters are shooting, or have just shot the last series.
  22. Great photos as usual Chris. They call Bali the island of a thousand temples. On my first visit there I decided to do the cultural thing and go on a couple of tours. After a few days I felt like I had seen most of them. How did you handle the bogan invasion of all parts of Bali? The Ozzie accent is rather prevalent through out the island and some of the near by ones too.
  23. After a 16 year wait The Avalanches are back; In case you can't remember them this was one of their better known pieces;
