  1. Phuket Courts, Business Registration Office (sorry not got the right name) and Land Office often have a crack at different farang devices to own land and businesses. A couple of years ago they had a go at business registrations and the number of new businesses dropped by about 90% for a couple of months. The complaints from the lawyers and accountants caused a change of heart. This might be another ambit attempt to have a go at the dreaded foreigner from owning a bit of Thailand.
  2. Gaza didn't that dealer use Drew Noyes as his lawyer in Pattaya?
  3. It is a pleasant 33C here in planet Perth. Supposed to be 39C tomorrow.
  4. Looks like an entry in one of the Bung Fai competitions, they have them across Issan just after Songkran, the biggest is in Yassothon. As said above, it was one of the more successful entries. thanks for the video.
  5. Similar thing happened to the brother of a friend of my son. He bought a mixed drink which was poured in front of him and his friends. The methanol in the dodgy spirit killed him. The kid was 19, he had just competed in the U19 world lacrosse titles for Australia. In Thailand they just use dodgy replacement booze, in Indonesia they use methanol.
  6. Great photos, you found something that very few people can find in that place. .. .. Some seats
  7. So is this wacmedia person Harris Black? I thought that was his domain.
  8. The only thing I can see that is different from the previous (ignored) law is that in the old law you could buy "bulk" quantities ie more than 10L at any time, it was only the poor regular punter that wanted a beer in the afternoon that was affected by the old law. The shiny new law now makes illegal the sale of "bulk" quantities outside the mandated selling times. This will be treated with the same contempt that the old version was, ie the 7-11's, Family Mart Tesco and Macro will stop selling during these "shuttered" hours everyone else will ignore the new regulations. Aside from this th
  9. Who is going to take bets there will be a plea of Post natal Depression some place in the legal proceedings.
  10. It starts off as tap water, they put the water through charcoal filters then through the RO system, some systems have UV treatment as well. The filters need to be cleaned and the UV lamps need replacing every so often. There were several places on 3rd Rd selling or renting those machines.
  11. The royals use the road, the have the police clear the road in from of them. Not sure why they don't use choppers or such apart from Thai maintenance issues you would think it would be quicker and easier, but then there would not be photo ops for the "adoring" citizens who line the streets. Edit Just realised, choppers do not take wheelchairs.
  12. Given who lives just outside of Hua Hin, when not in hospital in BKK, you can be assured the road between HH and BKK is kept in top condition.
  13. Did the Bell's bus to Hua Hin last year, usual Bell's service. Only trouble was on getting to the bus station in Hua Hin the local taxi mafia wanted 200B to go to the hotel, caught a baht bus. The wait in Swampy allowed Jr(13yo) and I to get some proper food (not airline mush) at the food hall, fix up mobile phones with local sim cards and stretch our legs a little before getting back into a seat for another couple of hours. We had only come from Oz via Singapore, so not long haul.
  14. One of the reasons my family stopped using coins in the plum pudding was when they changed the make-up of the coins, the newer coins (nickel based rather than silver based) were not suitable for cooking, they could affect the taste of the pudding. The grandmother kept a collection of older coins for a number of years to keep the tradition. Never heard of wrapping them in grease proof paper. We were told there were coins in the pudding and not to swallow or choke on them.
  15. Look here: http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/fruit-recipes/my-nan-s-christmas-pud-with-vin-santo/ or here: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1011/plum-pudding They are served with brandy butter, and brought to the table after being doused with brandy or whiskey and set alight. My father liked to also add whipped cream which has rum or brandy mixed in with it.
  16. You missed the cheesy paper hats that usually come in the cracker, it is wrapped around the paper with the joke/s and the even sillier plastic toy.
  17. Why do cows lie down when it rains? To keep each udder dry. Cringe-worthy from Christmas lunch.
  18. Merry Christmas to all. May 2015 bring you good health and prosperity. Hoping it will be a little cool today, 25C or so would be good, eating a full meal with a temp of over 30C can get oppressive.
  19. For the new and uninitiated could you please explain what this competition is about. Something about Iced Tea at restaurants from what I read.
  20. Only time I was asked was by a girl who I met through DIA who happened to work in an exchange kiosk.

  23. I don't know. They may find them selves the centre of attraction if they are kept with the Thais in the cells, however, having been handed over to immigration these "quality tourists" may have avoided that notoriety.
