  1. The pilots were following the Boeing procedure.... which means the procedure for recovery was badly written. Why can't you just admit that Boeing screwed up badly with the MCAS implementation on the MAX? Not only was a safety critical system designed to only use one sensor, but also the recovery procedure if a fault arises was badly written.
  2. Some scum fly business class!!!
  3. They were following Boeing's procedures....
  4. Seems like the pilots followed the Boeing "procedure" https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47812225 So you can stop trying to blame the pilots - the 737MAX was badly designed!!!
  5. Even with name tags I struggle to remember names.... especially when drunk!!!!
  6. Remember the Ethiopian Airlines 787 Nightmareliner that suffered a fire at LHR..... Was that the pilots fault or Boeing poor design??? It was another poor design problem that lead to a global grounding of all the delivered aircraft......
  7. Should that be offered as an "optional extra" or should that be fitted as standard??? You would think that a critical safety system, especially for a control system which is highly important in the ascent or descent phase of a flight would have more than just one sensor and indication. It's bad design and implementation that has resulted in the loss of several lives. I'm not an Aviation Instrument Engineer, but I am an Instrument Engineer (40 years experience in instrumentation systems) and my work involves safety critical systems.
  8. At my workplace safety critical systems we very often use "2 out of 3" systems for alarm conditions and they get regularly tested to ensure correct operation. On some less critical systems we sometimes use "2 out of 2" . After maintenance we have to prove the safety function still operates before it can be signed off.
  9. After reading through that article my understanding is that the MAX is fitted with 2 Angle of Attack sensors, yet only uses one at a time.... That is very poor design from a safety point of view if a safety critical sensor goes faulty.
  10. Lower luggage allowances are definitely a problem if you have a Thai wife..... Mrs Fiend has our cases stuffed full of Thai ingredients when we fly back to the UK....
  11. We arrive on a Qatar flight and head up to CNX on Thai, the flights were booked separately... On the return flight I added 10Kg extra baggage and it still worked out cheaper than booking a higher fare class with 30Kg allowance. Don't know when they bought in the 20Kg allowance, but it was after when I booked flights to CNX for October last year as we had the 30Kg allowance then....
  12. I bought the tickets on the 20th December 2018 and the website was showing 20Kg then, just like it was when I checked it just now.... Also noticed the price has gone up 1100 Baht since I booked.... There's a Buddha day the weekend we arrive so I expect the flight to CNX will be very busy...
  13. Just checked my dates in May for BKK-CNX flights and it's showing 20Kg allowance on the Super Save fare....
  14. There'll be a bar crawl in May.....
  15. Boeing failed to inform the airlines about the MCAS system before the Lion Air crash....... you can't train pilots on as system if the airline isn't told about it......
  16. Apparently after looking at the satellite data the spotted similarities to the Lion Air crash in changes of altitude prior to the crash. The black box data should confirm it.
  17. You should read what some of the Boeing fanboys come out with on airliners.net. If it's a Boeing plane that's in an accident they throw the blame at anything but Boeing. It's the same with engine manufacturers too.... To them GE engines are the bee's knees and RR are to be despised...
  18. You're a hero Frosty!!!!
  19. And Goldpanner definitely got it wrong..... he didn't even think it would last the first year.... Just goes to show that not everybody wants to use LHR..... I've flown via LHR once and I wouldn't do it again.... I'm spoilt for choice as I've got plenty of choice up North..... MAN, NCL, GLA and EDI all offer connections to BKK via Europe and the Middle East...
  20. Emirates have just announced London Stansted is to go double daily on July 1st 2019 due to increasing demand...... Emirates have certainly proved the doubters wrong!!!
  21. An interesting read.....
  22. G-CIVB has just flown to Dublin to get painted into the final retro livery.... The Negus and Negus version
  23. Fresh out of the paint shop about to depart for LHR. https://twitter.com/British_Airways/status/1104310621217144832?s=20
  24. I've seen photos of the next retro repaint... it's a 747 in the Landor livery and it does look good.... G-BNLY It's out of the paint shop and due to fly to BA211 LHR-MIA this afternoon
  25. Not impressed with the 747 retro look...... but the BEA scheme on the 319 looks really good.... it suits it!!!
