I came up with this idea for a non censorship pledge and I would like to ask all business owners in this forum to take the pledge. I'm working on a patch or window sticker or something that everyone that takes the pledge can display in their posts or business windows.

I'm up for suggestions on how to better word the pledge. I may add a poll to it also to get opinions. I want it to be a pledge between gentlemen therefore everyone must be satisfied with the terms.

The pledge:

As a business owner, I agree to not participate in unwarranted censorship.

Warranted censorship is perfectly acceptable to prevent breaking of the law or the appearance of breaking the law.

Censorship is warranted if an individual threatens or slanders another.

Censorship is warranted if grave harm could be caused.

Lastly censorship is warranted to stop Denial Of Service attacks.

But I will not engage in unwarranted censorship.

Aside from those business owners running websites, where does the issue of censorship arise?

I'm really at a loss as to what prompted this post or its purpose.

But it is the owner's right to control unwanted content any way.

There is no constitutional right to free speech on message boards.

Would you care to explain what you are on about? I sure as hell don't get it?

Were you drinking to much alcohol when you wrote this or were you smoking "happy tabackee?"

I have no idea who those people are, where it is, or who took those photos.

Neither.

It is clear that unwarranted censorship is on the rise in Pattaya. Fortunately FLB and the other businesses advertising in this Business Forum have successfully kept it in check. And I hope to keep it that way by establishing a way for newbies (for example) to know which businesses don't include unwarranted censorship in their business model. I'm not asking any business to give up their legal right to practice censorship. I'm just asking them to continue using it in a responsible way and to let others know that they do use it responsibly.

Do you have any examples of this or were they all censored?

Papillon, we all know of examples of unwarranted censorship in Pattaya. Rather than making negative remarks about the places that are doing it, I prefer to promote the ones that don't. I decided to start the drive on this particular board because I knew I wouldn't have to worry about the drive being deleted.

Ummmm, I think we're all still a little in the dark as to exactly what "censorship" you're talking about. Are you talking about threads being deleted, moved or edited by a site's mods? Certain kinds of behavior or comments getting people 86'd from bars, clubs or chat rooms? Shirts, hats, or other apparel with messages or images being deemed too offensive for public display? :bow

And regardless of which of the above applies, remember that the Golden Rule is in play at all times: Whoever has the gold makes the rules. IOW, their business -- their rules.

I fall in this category. I still have no idea what he is talking about?

Cum on, Short. Articulate! Lay it out there! Give us some details!

Like some others here, I'm still at a loss as to what the hell you mean.

I was trying to coax a bit more out of you.

Enlighten me. Put me out of my misery

Ok, since no one seems to have a clue I will give an example. But I'm not going to name the business involved because I prefer positive motivation to negative motivation.

While cleaning out my luggage from my previous trip long ago I discovered an unopened copy of "Thailand Fever" that I had purchased and forgotten about. I was as delighted as the guy that walked into a bar and recieved a free barfine.

So I shared the story in one of the Thailand Forums. To my shock it was promptly deleted. After I finished reading the book the next day the reason became obvious to me. The appendix of the book contained several references to FLB but none to the other business.

There really aren't words to properly express just how NOT a big deal that I find that. So someone deleted your thread. Notwithstanding that your explanation for why it was done is pure speculation, so what? So they deleted a thread. Big Effing Deal.

There are things going on in this world worth getting on a soapbox about. This ain't one of them.

Mescalito, I posted this specific example because everyone was requesting a specific example. And that's all it is a specific example.

Don't get me wrong, I expect businesses to reserve the right to censor all communication. But I also expect businesses to use that right responsibly.

Sir, with all due respect, I disagree with you on this statement.
