Black American needs advice on first trip to Pattaya!

Recommended Posts

Hello Gents, I am planning my first trip to Pattaya later on this year and there are several questions I would like to have help with, before I go. First I am a Black American. I was wondering would I have any problems with the the ladies or actually going into any of the bars or Go Go's in Pattaya. In the United States we have just elected our first African American President, which is a image builder for all people of color, and it is sad in some places in the world people still look at race when judging others, I have never traveled out side of America, and I am very much interested in seeking others opinion. I have become excited about visiting Pattaya ever since I learned about it from visiting searching the web and looking for exotic Asian vacations. So now, I was looking for some good advice, on how do the women in Pattaya treat African Americans? Can I expect to be over charged? Are the women freindly towards African Americans? Also are they approachable? Or should I expect them to be rude? Also which hotels are guest freindly near walking street? I would greatly appreciate to know these answers before I decide to spend a bundle of money on a trip that will turn out be disappointing.

Thanks,

Black Stallion

You should read the forum section INTRODUCTION about how to become a member of the board.

Then you will see trip reports and stories from black Americans about their experiences. Being black in Pattaya is absolutely not a problem as far as I can tell. It might even be an advantage!

You will have a great time. You may find the occasional individual asshole, but I don't think there is a single establishment where you will be judged on anything but your actions and behavior. You won't have any trouble finding ladies that are quite willing to go with "chocolate man", that won't even be an issue. Money is number one, if you've got that covered, you're in. You are about to become addicted.

I have heard quite a ferw bg saying not like farang dam,but money is number one not how attractive you are or how big your ham dam is

Girls have mentioned this to me on a few occasions also.

Whenever this issue is raised, there are always loads of guys including black guys saying that black guy's will have no problem whatsoever and that they will actually be in demand.

Don't believe them!

The sad fact is that Thailand is much more openly racist than the West and status there depends much on skin colour. There is clearly a sizeable proportion of girls who will not go with a black guy no matter how much money he is prepared to pay

Once I saw this well dressed, fairly good looking black guy chatting to a pretty girl in a disco. Later he walked off so I seized my chance.

On the way back to my hotel on the baht bus I mentioned that I first saw her talking with another guy and asked why he didn't want to go with her. She said "Up to me". She had made some excuse that she had a boyfriend when clearly she had not!

She only wanted 1000 baht for the night so it definitely wasn't a money issue.

Many black guys on here say that they have never had a rejection but they may be rejected many times without realising it.

As far as go go bars are concerned you should have no problems getting entry to them - however don't be surprised if girls there often walk past you and then to be all over some ugly, old, white guy who has his stomach hanging over his shorts.

I don't want to paint too bad a picture - there are obviously many Thai girls that will go with you however do bear in mind that the better looking the girl is then the less likely that she will be desperate for customers - and the more likely she will be picky as to who she goes with.

Without knowing what was said it is hard to tell why she didn't want to go. Maybe he was an asshat. Maybe he wanted something she wasn't prepared to do such as anal, or showers or s&m. Maybe she just got bad vibes from him. Or you could be right and she just doesn't like black guys. But for every one that says no there will be a dozen that say yes. We have several black guys where I work who have gone to Pattaya and they would go again tomorrow. And several of thier friends who are black would be on the same plane if they could.

I'm not Black, but I suspect there are certain aspects of the interactions with the girls that are the same for everyone. That is, you might not hit it off with every girl. For whatever reason. Maybe they only like old guys. Maybe they only like young guys. Maybe they don't go with any customer. Maybe they won't go with any guy from England (one girl actually told me that). Anyway, that's just the way it is. Fortunately, there are thousands of girls in Pattaya.

in many ways pattaya is like any other place in the world, treat the women with respect and they will treat you the same way, sometimes bar girls will not go with me and i cannot understand that as i am a hansom man! just be your self and you will become like i am, a pattaya addict... :D

Could it be that maybe she thought you might be from America? :D

No, she knew I was from America. She just pointed out some guy across the room, said he was from England and that he was a disgusting prick and that she'd never go with another guy from England. I got the impression that maybe he didn't treat her so well.

No offense to any guys from England. I'm just reporting what some girl said to me to illustrate the point that you never really know what's going on in their heads.

Another one bites the dust, welcome to the board, Pattaya and LOS, Black Stallion.

I would not say that you would have a load of problems, but I´m pretty sure that you will encounter some.

The sad truth of the matter is as Arno so well pointed out "that Thailand is much more openly racist than the West and status there depends much on skin colour. There is clearly a sizable proportion of girls who will not go with a black guy no matter how much money he is prepared to pay".

I am not sure that this always is a question of skin colour in it self although, but more often a matter of where the girls think you come from! I have quite a few friends in LOS who are black and they have all told me that even if they meet some negativity and some times even hostility, most of it is solved when the girls realize that they come from the US or England.

Arabs are not that popular and neither are Africans and it seems that a lot of this hostility/negativity is about misunderstandings about nationality, (a lot of girls think Indians and Africans to be cheap and Arabs to be ill behaved and violent).

Still you will encounter some racism (even if it might not be obvious to you every time), and as friendlyric6411 wrote you will be called chocolate man at some places. I have even heard some BG:s refere

to black men as "Nigger", and when I told them that that was highly improper they looked at me with innocent eyes and said that this was one standard name in Thai slang, if it is true I don´t know!

When it comes down to hard facts it´s as bigorange1 points out, "in many ways Pattaya is like any other place in the world, TREAT THE WOMAN WITH RESPECT AND THEY WILL TREAT YOU THE SAME WAY, sometimes bar girls will not go with me and i cannot understand that as i am a hansom man! Just be your self and you will become, a Pattaya addict".

You do not have to worry although, because you will find that there are plenty of lovely ladies that will want to make your acquaintance and after all, the main interest they all have is how big is your wallet!

I think that mykl wraps it all up in a perfect way when he writes, "You will have a great time. You are about to become addicted".

So B.S. Welcome to paradise!

come on Feb 8th and I will show you around.

btw, although white, I have never seen any signs of prejudice towards Americans in my two previous trips.

I have seen a few white assholes treated like they should be.

You will have a blast if you have money and respect the people and culture.

It is their world and they let us borrow it for a little while.

What a hoot and a credit to the board that we have two white Europeans to explain to the rest of us the negative thinking of Thai girls towards misled, unthinking American blacks. Thanks guys.

Several trips ago to Pattaya (this was probably back in 2007) I was sitting in a beer bar on Soi 8 when a black guy walked by . . . he was with two white guys . . . suddenly a few of the bar girls next to me yelled out "Chocolate man!" (trying to get his attention to come into the bar). He just waved, smiled and walked on with his buddies. At first I was shocked . . . but then realized this is not un usual and the girls are not being rude. So be prepared to hear that . . . and enjoy the ladies!
