Haven't been for about a year but quality excellent. Price at the top end for Patts. Exact amount depends on what you have, in particular on your alcohol consumption. Modest amount of alcohol will likely result in a bill of about 1,000 Baht for 2 courses.

Definitely my favourite in Patts. Highly recommend.

OK - a little bit pricey by LOS standards but compensated for by the ambience and quality.

I agree. It gets the balance just right and the Nirvana Place, where it's located, has great accommodation at decent rates.

If you're willing to treat yourself, the dining experience at Mata Hari is excellent.

One thing to note. I ordered a medium rare steak and it came back "reddish purple" inside, what I would call "very rare". I spoke to the owner about it, and he said it was, indeed, "medium rare". For me, I expect medium rare to be pinkish or light red on the inside, not bloody purple.

I asked him if the cook was new, because the time before I'd gone there and ordered "medium rare", it came out as I expected. He got very huffy at that point, and told me she'd been with him something like 17 years. The cook is is wife/SO. Jeez.

I just ate the steak as is, but have not gone back since.

Mata Hari is good but pricey. I have always Louis to be a bit take it or leave it.

Consider also Mantra or Brunos. Casa Pascal is good but very expensive and I have to say their menu never really does it for me.

Have a look in Jomtien Condo, their is Poseidon (owned by Casa Pascal) and a couple of other good places for a bit less money. I used to love the French place on Soi 4 but he has moved now and I'm never too sure where to.

Probably my favourite at the minute though is Cafe de Amis and I think this would be a fitting place for a 40th.

Where ever you go, I hope you have a super time on this most special of birthdays.

p.s. What date is your birthday?

I really enjoyed a meal at Mantra. It was 5 or 6 courses for 1500b, and by the time I got to the main entree, I was having to work at eating it. Everything was superb, and there was no "attitude" from the owner.

Ditto.

I like the Casa Pascal for their lunch specials when feeling rough. Good portions too, couldn't even finish an excellent mushroon risotto last time there.

There is a definite difference between say Western Europe (not UK) and the USA on what this means.

They are often a bit on the blue side in French restaurants.

That's what the owner was telling me.

But then there was the issue of my steak and my GF's steak, both ordered medium rare, and hers was cooked the way I would expect, and mine was undercooked. Also, the previous time I had gone there, my steak was cooked medium rare without any surprises.

BTW, it was a good steak.

So he realised your girl friend was Thai but probably thought you were French, and was miffed that you denied it.

I've eaten at Mata Hari several times and it was always excellent. Definitely pricey for the area, but very much worth it.

Girlfriend and I ate there a number of times and each time it was a good value for the money. Probably one of the best restaurants in Pattaya.
