I arrived on a Kingfisher flight,LHR MUM BKK,on an airbus 330 last monday .I was quite happy with the flight and the price.Much was said about Mumbai airport being really bad,but I did not think it was as bad as some have said.the food and drink on the plane was great ,I had the Indian food,The drink was on tap and on the LHR MUM leg the seat back entertaqinment was OK.The Mumbai BKK leg was on a much smaller plane (airbus 320)and had it been full It would have been a poor trip as the seating was much less comfortable,having said that there were only about 30 passengers on the flight and we all had a full row of 3 seats.All in all the flight was IMHO well worth the £427 I paidPS on the LHR MUM leg the flight attendants were very fit and would attract a good BF in Pattaya.

Thanks for the report and the overall positive comments. I fly with them on 2-Jul so was hoping for something like this and the BKK leg being virtually empty is a big plus for a non wide body flight.

I had a quick look at some boozeand it looks to be the same price maybee a little lower,but BE WARNED if you are carrying any liquid(more than 100cc) duty free the Indians will not let you take it through check in even if, AFAIK, it is in a sealed duty free bag from heathrow.This happened to a few of the people on my flight.

Sorry has taken so long...

 

So havnt flown from term 4 before. EVA air Thai air and Qatar airlines

I have flown with before and all from term 3. Term 4 is quite some

distance from term 3 as I found out.

 

Anyway, check-in ques non existent for kingfisher qued up for a

maximum of 5 mins. The are at the front of the term is quite nice

especialy if you are a smoker. On through security, again only a 5 min

wait, once through my gate was only 5 min walk from the duty free etc.

 

Boarded the A330-200 on-time and was impressed with the cleanliness and

level of comfort even in economy. The only fault I can find is seats

are quite hard and narrow. Despite reports that the IFE movies were

old I enjoyed them and there is plenty to choose from. Legrooom wasn't

an issue as I had an exit seat. The staff were curtious and the food

was the best I have ever had. Went for the meat curry and rice and it

was lovely complete with metal cutlery. Flight time approx 8 hours.

 

The only stop was in Mumbai, this was strange. The passengers in

transit through to Bangkok were called together and led through

security. It was a rather hap-hazard affair and nearly missed the kingfisher rep calling for Bangkok passengers! I passed through security with no problems however some fellow Brit

passengers who were perhaps dressed a bit more casually had a few

problems along with muttering abuse under their breathe didn't help

them. Once through went in search of coffee and smoking room

(celebrations cafe) and paid what worked out as £5 for a coffee

including the obligitory tip! More expensive than heathrow!

 

Now waiting for second leg.

 

Second leg on the smaller A320 and it was packed, staff were stressed, and our fellow Indian passengers impatient and rude.

 

Leg room terrible but food up to standard and the IFE no where near as good. Flight time 4 hours.

 

 

Return trip.

 

Plane broke down on the runway at Bangkok! disembarked us called for the transit passengers to London and then transfered us onto the 12.25 Thai Airways flight direct so got home earlier than we would have! As usual Thai was the old 747 with no inflight entertainment.

Pretty basic ....

 

Also do not carry liquor or any other liquid from BKK if you have a stopover at Mumbai. I have heard of cases where it was not allowed on the second flight. Safter to buy it at Mumbai though the choice of brands is limited...

Seems a touch down from Jet though with a similar BKK-BOM leg on small often cramped planes which are no comparison to the LHR-BOM leg. Jet were running 777s from LHR-BOM.

Quite a difference in the two reports. Anyway. I will post next week of my experience of the BKK leg.

I had a bottle of aftershave confiscated at Mumbai. Bought it at Heathrow, 150 ml in sealed plastic bag.

 

Could swear I smelt one of the security guys wearing it on my return trip

Well I am sure he was flattered as you snuggled up to his neck and gave a sniff.......

 

I chatted about this airline recently and got a 50/50 response...one good, and one negative.

The negative one was from someone who got delayed in Mumbai and said it was horrible.

 

No matter how good the airline, you transit THERE.

The service on the flights was very good and the food excellent. Everything went on time or early so no complaints. Both flight were full so this made the second leg a little cramped. All in all very good value for money and 2.5 hours im Mumbai wasn't too bad.

Spoke to someone today who booked through Virgin for a flight to Mumbai and was suprised to find herself on a Kingfisher flight!

She said it was OK but what realy pissed her off was when she got back and checked Kingfisher's prices for the same flight and found it was £200 cheaper!

Well now i know 1st leg may be a bind ,but longer 2nd route looks ok.

 

I paid £550 for kingfisher compare to Etihad,emerates which was well over £800 ,

Emirates are still circa 39k Baht but Qatar, Etihad and Oman are all 30k +/- for travel in Sep with good connecting times.
