It Pattaya a Hideout City for(criminal) ex-pats?

Recommended Posts

I Read an article about how so many of europe's hardcord criminals flee to the shores of Marbella Spain. I went to Google world map and saw just what high caliber homes one can buy with ill gotten cash. Farther down in the same article, they say Thailand, pacifically pattaya, is another favored spot. I can believe the Russian connection but I havent had a vibe from any other european groups. Here's the link..

Another hideout destination is Thailand, with Pattaya the favoured spot. The attraction here – apart from the obligatory full English breakfast, thriving counterfeit goods market and bar girls – is that bogus IDs are easy to get, the extradition process can be slow and fugitives can slip across the border into Cambodia. But nothing compares with Spain for convenience and comfort.

The police have done a good job getting rid of many farang drug sellers here, and a few more have buggered off before getting caught.Still some left but hopefuly not for long.

Probably none of us know the real dangerous criminals lurking in the dark shadows of Pattaya but no dounbt we all know some dodgy geezers

Not just blue collor crimes but also white collar crimes. Many asians are also hiding all over Pattaya and Thailand.

I've met a few from Hong Kong that open dim sum or wan ton noodles etc resturants that ......... lets just say can never go home again.

No, it is a question. The ? at the end of the sentence makes it a question, not a statement. Get a grip.

I'm sure there are some criminal types in Thailand enjoying their ill gotten gains. That's certainly where I'd be if I had any ill gotten gains to enjoy.

Finally, someone's worked out the attraction .... :banghead

I think it is a popular destination for criminals on the run especially Europeans and rightfully so. I find many north americans prefer hiding out in Mexician and central american beach destinations due to closer proximity. The Scots on the lam (lamb) well that's another story!

In this day and computer age, serious crimes are becoming more difficult to run away from. The old phrase, "The long arm of the law", applies now more than ever.

That said, there are countless thieves, scammers and petty crooks in Thailand. There are those who, for instance, burned cars or other properties to collect from insurance companies. They ran their many credit cards to the max and came to Thailand with a pocket full of money. Some have started successful businesses and are still here. Most of them have now run out of money and are on the edge or have returned home to face the music.

And a few of them are active members of the various LOS-based Internet boards.

Hi,

I dont think they will be too harshly treated if they come back to Blighty.

Pattaya must be for those w/o a substantial financial backing. I'd think a criminal with any money would want to hang out in someplace like Morocco.

Morocco? I think you meant Monaco. :allright

Talking of criminals, some years ago a well known Dutch criminal "John Mieremet" was assassinated in Patts, and according to a book I read recently, he was in the process of setting up a holiday resort, called "Singto Park".

Has this project actually ever taken off?

Taiwanese nabbed in Phuket

Bangkok Post

A Taiwanese man wanted in Taiwan on drug charges has been arrested in Phuket, provincial immigration police chief Panuwat Ruamrak said at a press conference yesterday.

Pol Col Panuwat said Wu Jung-Mu, 50, was arrested by immigration police at the request of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Thailand.

A local court in Taiwan issued a warrant for his arrest on Nov 28, 2003 and the TECO in Thailand asked the Immigration Police Bureau to find out if he had fled to Thailand.

Police learned that Wu Jung-Mu last entered Thailand via Suvarnabhumi airport on Oct 27, 2009, with a visa was valid until Jan 24, 2010. The man sought an extension of his visa at the Phuket immigration office on Jan 11 this year and was given an extension until Jan 24 next year.

Pol Col Panuwat said the immigration office revoked his visa on Aug 4 and arrested him at an apartment in Phuket's Muang District on Aug 10.

The TECO in Thailand had been contacted to make arrangements for his deportation to Taiwan after completing all legal proceedings in Thailand, he said.

How safe is Pattaya? I'm now for the first time in Bangkok, a few days. Seems safe to me, even at night.

Same for Pattaya?

My friends come over in november and december and most of them say that Phuket is a better choice and safe.

I think the only place left without an extradition treaty is Nothern Cyprus. Thailand isn't any better than anywhere else.

The ultimate defence against fugitive criminals settling in your country is obviously to ban Full English Brekkies

I reckon Pattaya is an idea place to come and live if you are an ex crim. Its reasonably cheap, they don't have the same extradition treaties that most EC countries do, and its easy to get lost in a town like Pattaya. I would.

There is a real difference between being in Pattaya and continuing to carry out crime, than a retired criminal who is enjoying the rewards of crime in a foreign land. Criminals are only bad when they are committing crime, but not usually when they retire. They only have their conscience to bother them, or usually not

There is nothing like stuffing you're belling before you go out and commit a crime.

Was a full English wot got Jacko 30 stretch. We wuz racin from a blag in our souped up Ford Capri, wen he saw the sign " Buy one Full English, get anuver free".

It's like honey to a bee for villains as the journo said :party I wuz busy wankin over the swag, wen he slammed on the anchors, and in e went. Being of Scottish descent, I couldn't leave the money and left the whiffy tart to take the heat!

Had a look in the "Villainy for Dummies " handbook I blagged later, and it said "Pattaya has a Full English Brekkie on every corner. Luvly jubbly. Just like the real life the journo paints :angry2
