I will be in Pattaya for Loi krathong for the first time, where is a good place to be? (21st November) will be with girlfriend

In Pattaya around the beach area , is where the most action is ,

stroll around the soi's and don't forget your camera .

most of the girls head to the beach at midnight .

Loi Krathong is the only night that I feel it's cumpulsory to take a girl LT, it feels so romantic pretending that you have a real girlfriend on this special night for lovers.

It is my favourite Thai holiday, I love the firework displays and all the pretty girls out on the beach looking for business.

It doesn't get much more romantic than walking hand in hand with your hired lover barefoot on Pattaya beach as the sun rises on the morning after loi krathong.

Couple of years ago we started at soi 8 and made our way down the beach into the City.

We launched our blessings, or should I say we had little boys rushing into the sea getting them away from the shore line.

Then onto the PBG which was needless to say heaving. I really dont think that any Thai girl will have a problem with the PBG, and the food for Thais seems passable.

This was a really great night and make sure to take your camera. Even the 'less good looking' girls seem to scrub up well when dressed in national costume.

This really was to me a festival with no down side.

About 6 years ago on Loy Krathong I had a nice afternoon drinking session with an Aussie guy at Na Jomtien, this meant by the evening I was well libated.

I took a stroll down soi 7, saw some baloons at a bar and did a bit of baloon chasing but also paid bar for a TG.

We strolled down to the Boulevard of Broken Dreams, aka Beach Road and I bought my new found girlfriend a Krathong.

Although the water was well out I went and floated the Krathong after taking off my shoes and socks.

When returning to Beach road and Tirac, I sat down to put my socks and shoes on what i thought was a wooden box, only it was a polystyrene one.

The result is a pissed up farang lying on the promenade, the box in a million bits, an unhappy trader and a TG who said"you mao" and pissed off.

Fortunately 200 was enough to keep the trader happy.

I can still remember the night now as I found myself at We are the World bar and went with a Thai lady who must have been 50, no bar fine though :grin

Another good night in LOS.

Generally I go to Lake Mabprachan, you catch some of the guys from the villages having fun and it can be extremely interesting. There was a dance stage last time and a collection of matronly women in red dresses available for short time (dance only.. :grin). There is a fair set up on both sides of the lake, problem is the amount of traffic, although parking is laid on. I generally take the bike as getting down Soi Siam CC can be impossible in a car if you leave it late. You can go down Chaiyapornwithi Rd to get to the fare at the other side near Wat Nongprue.

I also once enjoyed a nice Loy Krathong at the far end of Jomtiem Beach.

Agree 100% Jim, I'm looking to arrive the day before, this year, if WINZ co-operate! :grin

Where? Depends what you have in mind. If it's a traditional celebration, maybe your g/f will know a nice place to celebrate. I was in LOS twice, once in Phuket, once in Pattaya.

I can tell you that Pattaya Beach/Beach road can be downright dangerous with the idiots lighting off fireworks in all directions.

Phuket was pretty nice, but still probably far from "traditional".

I have heard that Jomtien Beach is more civilized, for whatever that is worth, as I have never been.

One really sexy thing that I noted at LK was a few falang women dressed in the national costume. Dont know why but they loooked as sexy as hell.

One other suggestion. Unless your TG speaks good English or you speak good Thai, go as a group of say 4 or 6 so that there are no gaping holes in the conversations.

You mean Aussie girls in shorts and flip-flops and German women in leather pants and UK women in cardigans???

One year I went down to the floating markets outside of Pattaya and launched one there. It was full couples doing the same.

I'm really big on not-the-pier, frankly. There are lots of possibilities, anywhere with a pond will have something good, often the golf courses have a party, even. And launching the kratongs in the ocean is always a pain compared with pondside or a klong.

Even hotels normally have something poolside, not that I recommend anything quite that artificial, but still, it's a party.

If this Loy Krathong is anything like past; expect heavy crowds and immense traffic in Pattaya

Hence I find the best place to be is at home and let the missus go off and do what ever it is she does.

I was trying to think of something that bad, actually. Thanks. Good one.

.

I will be in BKK. Where to go?

The banks of the river, especially both sides of the Oriental Hotel, or on the other side, roughly opposite. All riverside hotels will have something, the Montien, away from the MAIN first-class hotels might be good.

The traffic will be horrendous, so figure on the Skytrain, and figure it will be super-packed.
