After the admin link and password (123456) was posted on Facebook the site was heavily edited/hacked and then taken down by the developers who were making the site for the Immigration Department. They were given live data to develop the site. Why it was not kept behind a firewall with some real security is an issue the Immigration Dept will want to discuss with the developers (oh to be a fly on the wall for that meting).

 

Hope the Immigration Dept have more success in contacting them than the various media outlets who would like to get an interview or even a quote from them.

It's not an official or gouvernemental domain (.go.th or .or.th) like www.immigration.go.th

but a domain anyone can buy

This site doesn't belong to any organisation (but seems to be "test" access for developers)

and someone made action as this domain as been fully disabled (no SOA)

 

Good to see that the Thai Immigration knows make good usage of Google Maps facilities

I just completed my 90 day report online a few weeks ago to avoid going to the Jomtien Immigration office, on the off chance they might be handing out that stupid form.

 

Well, the report was approved, but I can't get their website to print the form I need to insert in my passport, due to some continuing issues with the crappy certificates.

 

If they should decide to require this new information, I suppose that means (1) abandoning the online 90 day reporting OR (2) updating the online reporting software to include those questions (and probably screwing it up even more).

 

Do the Chinese have to fill out this form?

Of course I consider my FB/Line/email more private than my bank accounts !

 

A bank account is a number you give to anyone who has to pay you.

The only thing people can do with it is... add money on your account :)

If a person only had your banking details, then yes all they could do is send money to the account. But remember, the immigration form also has passport number, photo and other personal information.

 

If you're still ok with disclosing all that info to immigration, I draw your attention to another quote from the article that demonstrates how well they protect that personal information.

 

The reverse side of the copies collected by The Phuket News specifically provided PorNgorDor 1 tax payment details of three persons involved in a restaurant in Phuket, including the persons’ names, the company name and tax number.

Gen Chachaval assured he would soon rectify the Phuket Immigration Office publicly revealing such information.

He also assured that the details of the “Foreign National Information Form” would remain secure. “We will keep all details provided on a secure server and they will only be shared with other law-enforcement agencies when needed,” he said.

That assurance came less than four weeks after a website-development “error” saw personal details, including the names, addresses, professions and passport numbers, of thousands of foreigners living in Southern Thailand posted online on March 27.

Yeah, I found that part of the story rather scary. They have no concept of privacy or how to protect data. They don't even know how to collect data without buggering it up.

Immigration already has your bank account information if your using the 800,000 Baht held in a Thai account method for a retirement visa.

 

Maybe this is the purpose of this section in the questionnaire?

They got loads of information on me and plenty of pictures of me yet are always asking for more.

Seems in Phuket they want it all in one place.

That is easy. Each province and office is treated as a fiefdom by the administrators. That is why you get differing requirements at every provincial office of every government department, immigration is not alone in this practice, try dealing with revenue department or the labor department and of course the police. They all have varying interpretations of the laws created in BKK depending on who is sitting at the desk in front of you, and what their current boss says.

My understanding is the chip in US passports are assembled in Thailand so, if that is true, I think I am screwed anyway.

 

However, The Washington Times equates this to a national security cave in but I still reserve the right to judge any evidence over time.

After getting used to simply taking along the passport for 90 day reporting, a few are being caught out requiring yet another photograph.

Personally due to UK trips I doubt I will need to go to Soi 5 until December to renew the extension.

According to the BBC, the US Customs and Border Patrol has published a Federal Register notice that would change the terms of entry for visitors to the United States arriving under the Visa Waiver Program or using the tradtional I-94 visa program. The updated application forms would ask users to identify what social networks they use and their "social media identifier" such as a username. Revealing this information would be "optional."

The proposal apparently flows from the San Bernardino hearings, where it was thought (wrongly) that the social media accounts of the shooters might have effected their admission decision. Because the new social media inquiry will be self-reported, any self-respecting terrorist could just create a false account, claim to have no account, or simply not answer.

Just this morning I wrote about the need to modernize our interdiction efforts. I am skeptical this is a useful proposal -- it will just catch the morons.
