Coffee headache!

Recommended Posts

bloody hell. A friend gave us some coffee last week and I gave it a try this morning, at around 07:40 I was getting a headache. half an hour later it was like a bloody migraine. Never had anything like it before!. It lasted for an hour or so, luckily I was on a bit of downtime at work but Jesus, it was unpleasant.

Grumpy Mule Tanzania Footprint was the name of the stuff, it's supposed to have won awards etc, despite it being absolutely delicious, it's ended up in the bin :(

I'm not a coffee snob by any means, Mrs Butch likes the pure sumatran stuff, which I think I'll be going back to.

I do the Sumatran as well. Mrs. Butch has excellent taste. At least in coffee.

:P

Odd, headaches, Heineken gives me a headache. Haven't found a coffee that does but there are many types around. Caffein narrows blood vessels around the brain. That can cause headaches. Maybe the percentage of caffein was the issue.

Caffeine is the curse of modern society. It is highly addictive and increases alertness but at the cost of addiction and anxiety. I dumped it 20 years ago and never looked back!

I drink coffee every morning, but I can't say that I'm "addicted" or particularly anxious. I think I've actually seen some news articles about the heath benefits of drinking coffee. I can't remember the details, though.

Lol yep, can't argue on her coffee taste.

She tried it and had no problems, although she wasn't totally pleased when I binned it (more in a fit of anger than anything else). I drink 2- 3 small cups a day, but being a bit of a wimp I stick to what I know and like.

Am I addicted? Well, I do miss my first cup in the morning if there's no time but I don't crave it. Saying that though, if I go 3 days without a decent cup I will actively search out my "dealer" (Costa).

Heineken does the exact same to me, 3 bottles and guaranteed skullache.

I can live without coffee and have many times. It is for me a habit and not an addiction. I don't get cravings when I don't get it. As I said I limit it to two cups first thing in the morning. It is part of my morning ritual.

For sure caffein is an addictive substance but in small amounts it shouldn't hurt a healthy person. Even kids consume caffeine. It is in cola and chocolate. It is in tea.

Thanks for your experience about Heineken. Not sure what it is about that beer but I have to avoid it.

I drink two cups a day, in the mornings. I've gone two days without coffee and go thru withdrawal symptoms(terrific headache). You don't think you are addicted try going two days without cafeine from some method.

I guess we are all different. I have gone quite a bit longer than that many times with no problems. However, you are not the only I have heard say that.

The only thing I have ever craved is cigarettes when I was young and dumb and my afternoon beer. I am trying to drop ten pounds and am cutting out my afternoon beer. About 3 PM I start craving that one beer. I just exercise a bit and drink a bottle of water and it passes. The next day I crave that beer around the same time. If I was truly addicted physically, I imagine I would have symptoms regardless of the time of day.

Also, I have discussed my coffee and beer habits with my doctor. She is not concerned. Of course, I have not told her about my upcoming two week party in Pattaya. I will stick to beer though.

Yes, in moderation I think a little caffeine and the trace elements in coffee is healthy.

Yes, agree it is the quantity of caffeine consumed (instant has less caffeine as do some cheaper coffees) and now that I consume less it's also more a habit than an addiction.

Be aware and careful with all we do. Let's be around for awhile!!

Yes, I had that condition for a few years and eventually kicked the addiction after some painful days and nights of headaches. A month later I started drinking coffee again, but have kept to small dosages so now when I miss a day or two, no problems.

I'm a "user" but not a coffee "addict"

When I'm at work I'll take 4, or sometimes 5 cups spread over my 12 hour shift.... but on my 6 days off I don't touch the stuff and I don't suffer from caffeine withdrawal symptoms....

I am an addict.

I did the "detoxing" with headaches and even cold sweats a couple of years ago.

I have since let the consumption slide back up to the old level but can do another "cold turkey" if I decide to.

From the studies I have read (big group of nurses over 30 years was one of them) there are no bad effects of the addiction.

When I was working in the USA I was doing similar, with real coffee, Folgers and a percolator.

My problems from the habit were stomach related.

I like a coffee, though it's not essential and I'm no coffee snob, instant does for me.

Tea though, I'm a committed Tetley man. Brought a bag of 240 over with me and regretting not bringing more. Hoping Tesco here have it - and not those silly one cup bags, pint mugs for me!

I'm not a tea drinker so don't really notice which places stock Tetley. However if you can't find them at places like Tesco, Friendship, Villa etc, Siambury's on Soi Khao Talo advertise them. KPK on Soi Yume near Big C Extra can also be a good source of falang treats.

Good luck.

I was in Simple Simons yesterday and they have the Tetleys one cup bags. They also had PG Tips and Yorkshire tea bags which did not say 'one cup' on the box.

Anyway even if Brian doesn't find the tea he wants there it's worth a look just to see the type of stuff that is available out here in a relatively small outlet.

I am using some 'Yorkshire Tea' myself right now, but admit to brewing one-cup (largish beaker actually) at a time.

I prefer it to Tetleys.

Doesn't anyone use tea leaves anymore?. That seems to be a thing of the past (at work we still use a teapot, anyone caught mashing a bag in their cup gets it poured down the sink).

This probably does you no good but I am pretty sure that Whole Foods and others sell leaves as well as bages. I am pretty sure many stores carry it but I am not a tea drinker so my knowledge is limited.

Luckily I'm in the UK at the moment but we're heading out to the RP in October, so I can stock up on tealeaves, bags and decent coffee before we go. We've got a 40kg allowance with Cathay this trip so that's 120kg of crap I'll be travelling with of which probably only 5 kg will be allowed for "my" stuff.
