  1. Good for you mate, by all means bring your girl to Patts, hope you and particularly she have a great time. Life really isn't all about sizing women up for f*ck potential, like so much meat, and as far as I'm concerned, if a girl is obviously with a guy she's off-limits anyway (even if only a barfine, one-night stand) - that's a matter of common courtesy between men, and face-to-face it's one you disregard at your peril, which is why I for one didn't appreciate the inappropriate and plain offensive 3-hole question.
  2. Dear oh dear, there's always one, isn't there ..
  3. I've heard that he was hit with a 2-year tax liability of which he was previously unaware, and that his cook left suddenly after a disagreement, but I can't say if that is correct. I do know that he was not the world's best at taking advice from long-term expats or Thais though. Sorry he's gone, nice enough chap - this place can be very unforgiving if you get your business model wrong and are not very adaptable.
  4. I've also tried the place since reading the OP, and can confirm it deserves support. Really tasty food and enormous helpings, it's a struggle for 2 to finish that set meal. Definitely going back there, highly recommended.
  5. There was a Thai lady called Pong Who didn't work anywhere long ChicaBoom, Teazers Confuses the geezers Where are you now,Wassatpong?
  6. Interesting, we all know this is a common circumvention of the rules to gain long-term residence without visa runs, journeys home to renew an 'O' visa etc. If this crack-down bites, I wonder what benefits the authorities in question expect to gain for the Thai economy and culture though. It seems to me that apart from a possible wish to rid Thailand of farang they consider undesirable (by what definition?), there is nothing much to be said for this. It will certainly reduce the income and employment potential of more-or-less dodgy language schools, it will discourage potential expats (who ar
  7. Can't miss that, well done guys, I'll be there and drink the health of my absent brother (in crime) Bobby.
  8. There is nothing mysogynistic about extreme scepticism when it comes to BGs or indeed "good girls" - it's just common sense to be wary of their motives and understand the basic circumstances. They are simply people seeking to better their financial position by trading on their assets. Whatever the relative numbers of BGs and punters/tourists/coach parties etc. might actually be on paper (and we can only guess), it never ceases to amaze me as a Patts resident how many girls have not just one but two or more sponsors sending money. My girlfriend is something of a mother-figure to a large numbe
  9. That girl must have fallen hard, made me wince watching it. Horseplay like that is totally out of order when you've had a few, hope the lass is alright.
  10. Add Pattaya Beer Garden to the list, though its ambience is better in the evening than at lunchtime.
  11. Will try to make it tonight Martin, but a gammy foot is giving me trouble. Happy birthday to Pin in case I can't get there.
  12. Well for a start, from Jomtien you can see if there are any decent Russian birds on the beach on Koh Larn.
  13. I have a 20x - 60x zoom telescope made by Jiehle complete with tripod and carrying bag, in excellent condition. Cost me 9500 Baht new, I don't use it much and would part with it for 4000 or near offer. PM me if you'd like to see it.
  14. The encyclopaedia of Italian war heros Yeah I know, it's ancient .. I'm 62, you want new jokes already?
  15. I can recommend a very good book called "Glue" to BMs - I couldn't put it down.
  16. Right on, nobody who's posted is busting a gut or losing his rag over these little irritations. We all know it's their country blah, blah ... Having said that, I've met a small number of long-term expats who can't take a lighthearted view any more, if they ever could, and are noticeably angry about just about everything. They should leave before the cumulative effect of the Thai way of life destroys their mental balance.
  17. Points 1 to 10 are right on the button, I thought I can't be the only one who finds these things both irritating and amusing. I'll add one that really gets my goat: the sheer incompetence of most Thai car drivers of either sex, who sit inside 1-2 tons of metal and represent a lethal threat to all around them. It's the slow, hesitant (i.e. scared, nervous) ones that are worst, they'll get you killed on a motor scooter faster than somebody who is proceeding at a decent but confident and predictable pace. Oh, and here's another: the Thai's complete indifference to the temperature of food. Time a
  18. I thought "How to win friends and influence people" was written by Dale Carnegie - may be a pseudonym though, or I'm under the influence .
  19. Well finders, keepers - you had every right to scoff it if it invaded your space.
  20. Fair enough Pete, a good response by an owner who obviously really cares. Glad your problems stem from very high demand rather than the opposite, and good luck for the future.
  21. Sorry bigstuy, but in his post Frostie said: "and the manager made it right. Hell, I told her not to worry about it, that I didnt want anything else (was a bit freaked at eating that much raw chicken), and told her not to bother - but she removed the meal from the bin anyway (I would have paid without complaint), and I'm sure she told the cook off for it, so thats handled. :)" He clearly talked to the manager on duty, who attended to the problem. Pete the owner was not there, so he talked to the manager. Hopefully it also got to Pete later. And he has every right to pass on his impressions
  22. That's bad news Frostie, as I'm also a great advocate of PBG's food and service. Haven't been there for a few weeks, however, so can't comment further. A friend was telling me recently that the waiting time for a meal had soared up to the unacceptable level of over one hour again though. No doubt Pete will get onto this if made aware.
  23. I concur that Patrick's Belgian does a good steak. Also I've never had a less than excellent one at Pattaya Beer Garden, well worth ordering and reasonably priced.
  24. Saving Ryan's privates One flew into the cuckoo's nest Annie got yer gun An orifice and a gentleman
  25. That's a great story LOL. Here's another, a dialogue that made me laugh. An Irishman had been found guilty of theft in an English magistrates court. Judge: Have you anything to say before I sentence you? Irishman: As God is my judge, oi'm not guilty of this crime. Judge: He's not. I am. You are. Six months.
