Songthaew Fares in Pattaya

I have no any problems with the bahtbuses, still very good value... going from Jomtien to Naklua still 20-30 baht....

Happened many times, some russkies hijacked the bahtbus ( to the Pratamnak hill ) ... easy, just wait when the bahtbus going back to the official route... if he goes on the wrong direction, just ring and hop on an other bahtbus.....

10 REASONS TO USE A BAHT BUS.   I have to admit to being a great supporter of the baht bus system. Over the last few years and literally hundreds of trips I can honestly say:   1. I have never bee

Have u seen the improved beach rd ??????.Why increase a baht bus fare for u, u hardly leave your mum in uk

Last thing the city needs is more baht buses on the roads.

Gabor, I understand that you speak Russian, right?

So this might be for you: Explain our Russian Tourist friends how the Baht Bus operates, how much the charge is for a bus ride, how much one should offer for a taxi ride, and that it is seen by all others as both stupid and impolite to charter a full Baht bus instead of waiting for the next empty one.

Guess most Western expats and board members would see this your hobby as more rewarding than your bickering about punters whose spending habits differ from yours.

In response to a couple of posts.

Re the time it takes in a baht bus. I am on holiday and the time issue just isn't an issue. I might feel differently if I had to work but as far as I am concerned I just don't care.

For one BM renting a bike is a way to reduce stress! In Pattaya! I think that for most of us it would be a nightmare driving in this place especially if you come from smaller towns with medium traffic. I occasionally get onto a MBT and onto the back of the odd GF's bike but its heart in mouth stuff and certainly not conducive to lowering stress.

There are many great things in Pattaya but the 10 baht bus fare, with a bus every minute or so, must be up there at the top.

Do you get off without paying, or end up paying 2 (or more) fares?

I am on a mission, I want to drink beer and have fun with the girls, wasting 1/2 hour sat on a baht bus hanging infront of 'Pattaya Royal Festival Beach Rd on The Front Mall' isn't on the agenda!

As to renting a bike.. of course as a resident I own mine, but never ever drink and ride a bike in Pattaya.

" Also, what pisses me off are the arseholes driving huge 4x4's up and down Soi's like 6,7 & 8 that any busy with pedestrians just because they can "

yes, outside daylight hours ALL cars should be made to use Pattaya Klang for West bound travel and Soi 9 for Eastbound. no reason to use 7 and 8 at all.

You might recall that a city bus system was tried. Sparkling new bus stop signs complete with advertising from local businesses was rolled out about, what, five years ago or so?

The baht bus mafia torpedoed the buses, demanding that they run infrequently, etc etc.

A light rail/skytrain system might work because it would have more official muscle behind it than a bus system.

Besides, the town has grown a lot. A rail system is sorely needed.

Subway system would be interesting until the monsoons hit.

From Jomtien I pay 10 baht up to the Pattaya Klang... if the bahtbus goes forward I pay 20 baht.... if the bahtbus turns back at the Dolphin rundabout an other trip up to Naklua... However happened more, than once I paid bigger banknotes and the change was back from 10 baht... ( when the bahtbus turned back at the Dolphin rundabout )

Almost as much as the forum needs another Baht bus thread, I am sure that all of the baht bus drivers are reading the drivel from the OP and are waiting with bated breath to find out what they should be charging.

So a big influx of Tourists over the past two or three years but no extra Buses needed. Not even from Jomtien to Pattaya Tai.

Interesting thought as the main reason many Russians go to Pattaya is to ride baht buses between Jomtoen and Naklua. They would just offer crazy money to extend the trip and the system would break down.

Saw a Norwegian guy get away with the old 5 Baht trick last visit. Paid and then briskly walked back the way that we had come from on Sai2. Not recommended !

Saw a baht bus driver get away with the no change trick recently, took the note and was off like a drag racer!

Glad I'm not a Sexpat that uses the Buses as main form of transport.

When was the last time you were in Patts Pap ?

If one drives past, let him. His loss. There isn't exactly a shortage, one will be alone in seconds during the day. I am only going to use buses on my next trip, I have decided not to risk mototaxis anymore.

I use the motos all the time and everywhere. Got a few favorite crews that I give most of my business to. Rarely, rarely have a problem. Point to point, breeze through gridlock, reasonably priced. What's not to like?

The fact that almost daily there are stories of people being killed on bikes.

Yes they are convenient and quick, but I am just not taking the risk any more.

Ending up in a body bag because one day your moto rider maybe Yabberd up and drives straight into the path of a cement truck.....!

I can't say you're wrong, but most of those stories involve farang driving motorcycles themselves. For the moto drivers, driving a bike isn't about impressing the ladies, it's a job.

Personally I use either my little motor bike or motor bike taxis. The pick up taxis are a real P.I.T.A. for me personally. Ive never ever seen a shortage of them either? Quite the opposite in fact. Jeez even walking they will stop and beep for your custom (even when Im walking in the opposite direction?). Crossing the roads too, they will stop and ask if you want a ride? I can see why some people love them....................as for me I can still walk distances, so no worries for me. Maybe when Im older and have mobility problems I may use them...but not for the moment!
