Britts good luck but don't put too much money on them

lol americans are you all drunk? get to the second round ok but winning the cup??

Some championship strawman building there, aras, you seeing through the many, many posters who have picked the USA to win the WC. I do agree with you, though, that after five, six games we may be able to tell whether Argentina have anything. You wouldn't want to make any predictions before they've showed their stuff.

You kind of caught me with my iggerant-hat on, though. I didn't even realise Britain has a team in the World Cup. That's Great.

At the mere cost of 1,001 stoppages of play while people stand around for 10 minutes or more reviewing the tape/video/film. The thing is that stopping the game ALSO affects the game, just like an undetected hand ball or a terrible offside call.

I do agonise sometimes. But you know, if you want a game where there is never a bad call and the ref always gets it right, get Soccer 10K and put that up on your screen. (It's interesting, actually, that one of the big baseball video games has a mode where the umpire has an unpredictable strike zone -- art imitating life.)

I agree you wouldn't want to break up the play.............................. But............

It wouldn't be 1001 stoppages in the same game. You might have one controversial moment or 2 or none! Worth it it my opinion......But not in FIFA's. Be interested to know exactly why they rule it out.

As for this world cup there will be new stars born......... new teams that surprise and excite us. Some teams will disappoint and there will be controversy over a refereeing decision.

I love a good controversy. Two games in and not much ado, yet, though at least one of my co-workers was hoping for more from Mexico he'll take the not losing after being down 1.

Greatest show on Earth with only 2 goals in 2 games? :banghead

As Vic pointed out to me. " You can't judge the excitement of a game by the final score " - well not if it's an American one...

The French game was a bore, but I have a feeling a draw suited both sides, as they fancy being able to beat Mexico and S. Africa.

Ok, how about this? 48 shots on goal in 180+ minutes and many of those not even good opportunities...zzzzzzzzzzzzz

I assume you watched it all then ? The question has to be- why ? :D

If I don't like a sport, I wouldn't waste my time sitting through it. Unless of course, I just wanted to make negative comments about it afterwards..... but I'm not that sad. Some are though ! Yes I know it's hard to believe, but....

I think this whole "going for a tie" business puts a lot of people off. It puts me off. I'd rather watch diving, frankly, and I really hate diving a lot.

If teams are going for a draw, they should call off the match, refund the tickets and just award a draw. Why play?

Typical soccer - 2 games played on opening day of the WC, no one won, and one game was a nil-nil tie, but they each got one point. :allright

Soccer rewards teams that under achieve.

Why do you hate England so? (The team, I mean. The 21st century nation, you already explained.)

That noise if feckin anoying and kills the atmosphere. You can't hear the crowd excitement buiding or singing or chanhting. Just that annoying buzzing :allright

So can I as a non-believer have my say. Four games but only one winner isn't it? Where's this Greatest Show? Surely not media hype.

Have your say? _ Why not start a negative thread? Did anyone party poop the Stanley Cup thread? They might have done, I thought it best to let the fans enjoy it! It would maybe be good if football fans had a thread where they could discuss it the world cup without people party pooping. But it's no big deal. Fire away.

Its a 64 game, month long competition. You can't judge it after 2 days :party Apart from that, if you don't understand group stages, points , and tactics, then please don't ask me to explain it :allright

One of lifes mysteries. Why do so many non football fans watch the sport??? I remember Vic saying he watched it every night. :allright

More aptly, it's why England has as many points as America. I only had a chance to listen to the last 20 minutes but was nice to hear that both teams were attacking rather than simply playing defense. From what I could tell Rooney played decent but uninspired. Anyway, will make it interesting for both teams if there are 3 points awarded in the Slovenia - Algeria match.

That has to be one of the funniest quotes I have ever read on PT. :D

I live in Thailand. It's unavoidable. If I stay home it's on the news every 15-20 minutes. If I go out it's on every TV in every bar and restaurant. If I go to 7-11 they have a whole aisle of WC gear and a table set up right next to the counter. If I were in the US I could avoid it, but not here.

I remember Vic saying he watched it every night.

I watched several games of the 2006 WC when I lived in Pattaya, but I didn't watch it every night, so your statement is incorrect (shocker there :banghead ). I caught bits and pieces of games Friday and Saturday night because I went out, but I wasn't making an effort to watch it.

My earlier post was just a statement of fact about soccer. No one won those first 2 games. In one game no one scored. In both cases the teams failure to win was rewarded. These are facts.

Now you can add the much hyped USA vs England game to that list. No one won. I'm watching these stupid American soccer fans going crazy because they didn't lose. :D

Beautiful game? :D

I'm in Japan listening to US military radio (the only English-language thing on the radio dial, and I don't have a TV).

They ran through every score in major league baseball but didn't even mention the World Cup.

Dear Confused in Rayong,

You aren't very good with this 'facts' thing, are you? In both cases the teams failure to win was penalised; instead of 3 points, they got one. It was the teams' achievement in not getting beaten that was rewarded. :banghead :D: I know that the chance of more than two outcomes must be difficult for you to comprehend but I'm sure the girlies at 7Eleven will explain it to you the next time you pop in.

Anyway, I'm glad to see that you managed to wait until Day 2 before coming out with your normal uninformed bile. :D
