What's a repair? :D

A repair is something that Apple products never need. That is if you believe Apple fanatics. :beer

ADDED - My Lenovo (IBM) Thinkpad died at two and a half years. I looked back at my warranty and it had a three year International warranty. I contacted Lenovo and was informed that my laptop here in Thailand was covered. I had to take it to an authorized dealer and the nearest was 150 kilometers away in Udon Thani. I was pleased that they replaced the mother board at no charge.

Somchai's local shop can repair an unbranded desktop on the spot. I wasn't happy driving 150 kilometers for the laptop repair. Had the Thinkpad not been covered by the warranty, it would have been a throw away. The mother board replacement cost more than the laptop was worth.

I think for someone my age, 59, it is a gimmick but the younger generation is into tech gadgets as part of their lives. I have a cell phone, for instance, but carry it in my vehicle for emergencies. My daughter and son on the other hand do not have a land line. My phone at work and home is just that.

You want to get yourself one of these babies, real easy for you geezers, don't have to depend on those young smart-alec whippersnappers and their high-and-mighty tech:

Your mistake is thinking of it as a laptop replacement. That's not what it is or supposed to be.

I know a few who try to use their i-Phone in place of a laptop, so they will surely try to do the same with an i-Pad when they get one

The few you know aren't very smart. Only morons think that the iPad or the iPhone is a laptop "replacement". The iPad was never marketed as or intended to be a laptop replacement. This is a new product category that will be even bigger in a year. By the end of the year there will Android and Windows tablets. In 2011 there will be WebOS tablets.

If you actually wanted a smaller screen than a laptop, surely you would buy a netbook for a fraction of the cost ?

I have just bought a Toshiba 305 Notebook for GBP 320, with a free case thrown in. Love it!

Yeah I keep getting emails from one where the attachments or photos are 'missing'......

It's even more disturbing when he comes round and insists on trying to show me things on it.

I keep telling him to chuck the infuriating thing in the pool.

Adobe is needed as well for many sites and Apple seem to have a blind spot as far as they are concerned.

you're talking about the Flash Player which is sort of a pain in the ass for 64-bit browsers still

also, i-Phone does NOT support Java in any of it's releases, including the soon to be released i-Phone 4/4G

isn't today the release date in North America ?

one thing i-Phone does have however is UMTS/HSDPA in both 1.9 & 2.1 Ghz, which would be necessary if I wanted to use 3G both here & in North America

Why else do you think there aren't many repair shops around? :banghead

Well, the main reason that come to mind is there is not too many Apple computers around - Pretty simple!

What is there market share - 5% maybe?

Heard on the radio that Argos would have ipad type screens for £100 shortly.

Probably got a glut of them now the original hype and fervour is over.

I have an Atom Netbook if I'm out 6 hours battery when on heavy useage and so much more flexible than the iPad which looking at a post further up is backwards technology.

But my Android phone does so much my Netbook is almost redundant now.

That's an absolutely idiotic infographic. Why would you compare a processor from 2003 to one in 2010 solely based on clock speed? That's just moronic. Is a 3GHz Pentium E5700 better than a 2.66GHz Core i7? Furthermore, why compare solid state storage to an optical disc? That's another misleading (and stupid) comparison.

Apart from all that...........spot on you'd say?

I've now had a chance to play with a few I-Pads. Just imagine a giant Ipod Touch.

I suppose there are a few neat apps for it. The other day I was in a high end stereo shop and they had a system set up to play lossless digital music stored on a server. The equipment was all expensive as hell, but it sounded great. Anyway, they used an I-Pad and some proprietary software as a giant remote control for music selection. You could browse through the music by categories, make play lists, and so on. I suppose you could do the same thing with an I-Pod Touch or an I-Phone and I-Tunes.

And one person I know bought one to use as an E-Book reader.
