For some reason, this song came to mind last night and was going through my head...one of the great songs from The Band in the late 60's.

According to Wikipedia, It was actually a bigger hit in the UK than in the USA, and I wonder if it was because of the differences in the meaning of "that word" in the refrain ...

I loved the Clash, and still give Sandanista a regular airing. They were actually a very "poppy" band, and many of their songs would have had a far greater mainstream appeal, had they not be linked to "punk". A lot of groups were classed as punk, but really weren't; Stranglers, Siouxsie etc.

I think The Clash were a punk band and their first album is a punk classic. I understand what you mean though because during the years they were active they explored lots of different genres and the Sandinista! album is where they were most experimental. However, apart from this track and a few others they're the only ones I like on that album which is probably my least favourite of theirs. I prefer the first album and Combat Rock. They are for me, one of the greatest and most influential bands ever and I love their music.

One of my favourite classical/rock type tracks (just the music unfortunately) with Annie Haslam starting off in almost pure classical form, and Roy Wood slowly invading to reach a typical Wood/ELO rocking crescendo. Probably the best female voice (5 octave range!!!) to have graced the prog/classic/rock scene, most notably with Renaissance.

You start to wish that maybe you weren't around in the sixties as the 20/20s approach!! but you are right with regards to the music snd "scene" though IMHO. Can never decide between "Paint it Black" (The incessance of Charlie's drumming) or "Sympathy for the Devil", as my favourite Stones tracks. Edited by Fatboyfat

Paint it Black also one of my favourite tracks of theirs too. I have so many favourites from the Stones, they are an awesome band but I only liked their early stuff, I wasn't keen on their work after about 1972. Today's track choice:
