I well be arriving late and well be wide awake. Want some safe option. thanks

Dangerous compared to what? There are a lot of neighborhoods in Western cities that are far more dangerous than Beach Road at 2.00 a.m., but BR in the wee hours is one of the riskier areas of Pattaya.

In any case, all the decent (by BR standards) girls will have long since abandoned their strolls to the lady boys and yabba freaks, so it's more a case of BR being pointless rather than dangerous at 2.00 a.m. At that time, the WS and LK go go bars will still be open, although winding down. Many, many freelancers on WS at that hour and you have the disco scene until 5.00-6.00 a.m.

No need to take any chances on Beach Road.

Other than the odd LB taking umbrage I have never heard of any issues with Beach Road. All places change however and with a lot of poorer tourists (well that's my opinion) it could become a place to avoid. As Evil says, why go there other than a short walk to your hotel. If its a free lancer you want then there are untold quantities lining Walking Street at 2 AM.

Evil is right. Why bother with Beach Road when there are many many other options at that hour? Hell, I can remember going to breakfast at 7AM and walking by beer bars that were STILL open from the night before.

Yes plenty of the bars on soi Diana will still be packed or Lk metro, I enjoy the hunt just around the hotel area first night and have been known to text a friendly lady from my taxi down from bkk to meet me at hotel. :bhappy

I tend to be a morning person in some critical ways but I rather doubt that would hold true if I had stayed up all night.

You should read some of the local news reports then.

A good few events over the last month, along with some guy getting his legs crushed under a coach.

Yeap, Pattaya and Thailand are dangerous places with respect to the roads. But I would say a good 90% of the accidents could be avoided by the victims with simple vigilance, probably more in western countries. This isn't to say that the victims are at fault, only they could avoid getting hit if they use some common sense.

I've seen so many times where the pedestrians assume they have the right of way and step into traffic. Legally, they may have, but the laws of physics are not on the side of the pedestrian. Even if I have a green light, I wait until I see traffic stopped or slowing a great deal before I would step off the curb. Just the other day, I was in Krabi and my diver went through a red light at least three seconds after it had changed. He saw the light change, then put on his hazard lights, and didn't even slow down. Three seconds is enough for a pedestrian to step off the curb in front of the speeding car.

In this case, the guy was hit by a bus that was turning from Beach Rd to Pattaya Tai. The bus could not have been going too fast that the pedestrian was surprised by it.

Interesting that Evil and myself thought you (the OP) was talking about the social side of BR whereas some respondents seeing the traffic issues. Perhaps the OP can advise what he is looking for advice on?

Perhaps someone can advise me why asking if the OP was wanting information about potential violence or traffic problems deserves a demerit point?

Don't let it worry you......I take it as a token of my worth that someone gives me a neg for some innocuous post.

I was wondering if its safe from violent crimes at the late hours.

There are occasional 'mugging' type crimes in Pattaya, gold chain snatching, pick-pocketing etc.

Mostly this happens in the late hours....... but I would not say it is a reason to avoid coming here, it really isn't all that common and just best not to be wandering the streets alone, late at night, and generally being an easy target.

The ladies I converse with are not too happy with the ladyboys on Beach Road. Especially later at night.

And the ladies cannot even help tourists by reporting to police - they say the lady boys return and beat them up.

Strange - never thought someone who was getting his ass buggered would have that much balls!

I saw a potential gold pick-pocketing on second road last month. As I was walking, I saw a ladyboy talking to a Russian couple. The ladyboy briskly walked away from them. Then the couple shortly ran after her and stopped her. He was really angry shouting at her in Russian. He was pointing to his wrist, but I had no idea what he was actually saying. But evidently the ladyboy did as she kept saying she didn't take it. The Russian had a hold of the LB's arm and grabbed her purse and went through it.

I passed by them and approached the original spot where they were first together and saw the bracelet on the ground. Then the ladyboy came rushing back to this spot and pointed to the bracelet on the ground. It was an interesting tactic, take the bracelet then drop it on the ground to pick up later. That way, she could honestly say she didn't have it. But I think in this case, she was afraid the Russian was going to beat the hell out of her, so she pointed out the bracelet to the guy she took it from.

I would say this is a more likely crime than anything violent. And traffic accidents are probably even more likely to happen than violent crimes.

I have seen the 'big bag' gang of pickpockets on a baht bus a couple of times.

In your instance it is a tactic to drop the item quickly if something goes wrong, or an accomplice perhaps picks it up.

It wouldn't be there long if dropped for later collection on 2nd Rd. :D

Wife n I have walked it many times very late at night trolling after drinking all night n not getting around to the hunt until to late. Usually not much out, but we've taken home some cuties. In Dec we picked up a stunning little Thai/German girl about 4am n took her back to condo.

I rarely use baht buses but I have had 2 incidents where ladyboys in a group have engaged me in conversation while the 'quiet one' nestles alongside with a coat or a bag on 'her' lap. I knew what they were doing, (thanks to this forum I think) and so I just kept both hands over my valuables ………… Not my bollox. …These I'm rather attached to and they can grab at them all they want they ain't going anywhere, so it won't distract me. I just smiled, they knew I knew, and they laughed and got off in case I was the vigilante type ………Which I'm not.

I've never had a problem either on Beach Road and I normally walk the entire distance from Soi 7. Sometimes it is after 2 am. There is certainly some interesting activity going on out there but I'm never had an issue. Occasionally you will see an obvious questionable character or characters (mostly ladybodys) which is easily avoided by moving on quickly. Personally, I avoid anything on Beach Road.

Don't wear expensive gold (or even fake) jewelry or you could be a target.

Don't walk down the street talking on an iPhone 5s, oblivious to your surroundings.

Don't pull out a wad of 1000's from your wallet. I keep mine well placed in a front pocket.

Don't try to break up a fight between a lady and her boyfriend. They will both turn on you

.

.

.

i.e. don't look or act like a target and you will be fine
