Anyone flown on Air China? Any good?

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever flown with Air China?

Saw some really good prices to a few places i plan on visiting next year, and wondered if anyone had flown on them before?

Looking for reviews on IFE, seats, food, and especially on their Premium Economy product as they have some amazing prices for that seat at the moment.

I flew on them once (To Thailand), but that was 25 years or so ago,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,back in my back-packing days!

From what i recall, they were fine...........I "think" I had to change planes in Amsterdam.

I would "assume" premium economy would be fine on them.

Flew with them last year and that will be the last time I fly with them. First they booked us with a connecting flight in Beijing knowing full well that connection was impossible. The connecting flight departed an hour before our arrival. They sent us by a packed van to a shitty hotel in the middle of nowhere with a free buffet that was so disgusting my dog wouldn't eat it.

Lost an entire day of our vacation and they wouldn't even offer an apology. The service was crap, the plane was crap, the food was beyond crap. Even the other Asian passengers were hard to deal with. Who the fuck drinks hot water?

Only positive comment would be the cost of the ticket.....You get what you pay for!

I think marleyboy's experience was probably China Airlines: A different beast altogether, being a Taiwanese airline, and much better than Air China, one of the "devolved" communist China airlines.

I think people often get confused between China Airlines and Air China. China Airlines was actually my airline of choice back when I was making the trip at least twice a year. I have never flown Air China. China Airlines had better service and although the food was more Asian than Western, I thought it was the best food of the airlines I had flown. Credit where credit is due.

I recall when I flew with them the service was tip-top......

As to Air China, like you never had the misfortune pleasure.

Used them to fly internally in China , HK to Beijing but i would not use them for long haul , as other's have stated they are pretty dire and the flights that i was on they even allow smoking at the back of the plane...... :yikes:

You could well be right.

I remember the time I flew with them , it was a ticket to (ultimately the Phillipines). We went to Thailand, then Hong Kong and then to Manilla...............I remember we had a long stop over in Taipei?

The reason I remember this particular airline, was because its the only time in almost 40 years of flying, we had to be put up in a hotel (In Hong Kong) because of bad weather or something, which meant the Hong Kong to Manilla leg (via Taiwan!) was cancelled....and we flew out the next morning, after being put up in a swanky (well it was at the time!!! remember I was back-packing back then!) hotel in Hong Kong!!

flew last September with them. Air China that is. 780 us all in. Houston to Peking to bkk. i would compare it to spirit airlines. cheap point to point travel.

had 4 hour layover in Peking needed it to clear security and get to gate. had 777 window seat economy. did not have checked bag so can not comment on that.

overall not much different form united airlines. (that does not say alot). but 780us or 1478 us. that is a lot of short times or room rent.

hope this helps

it was 777/300 3/3/3 seats in eco. standard seat not the new smaller ones.

IFE box was small one 2 inches thick on middle isle seat. ac power, in seat back screen.

plane from Peking to bkk was 737 overhead tv small seats. it 27 hour total non stop thru Peking.

qutar has cheap flights now may try them.

I got the feeling that when I flew with them that they had little experience of Euro passengers and their expectations.I was however sure that after a few months of complaints and training they would sharpen up their game.

You are likely right. One thing very apparent in Chinese is they are serious where learning something is concerned.

The original China airlines flight was quite good as if you checked their flight data and worked it right for the fare, they would fly you to Amsterdam then a free hotel for the night allowing you a night out in Amsterdam and a little smoke (!)and transfers for the night before free transfers again back to the airport for the China Airlines flight as they never had traffic rights to fly from the UK. Food was good, but it was fun to ask for a Tomato juice with a dash of Worcester sauce, that would have them running up and down the aisles trying to find out what it was.

The topic is about Air China nothing to do with China Airlines, if you flown both why didn't you make your comment about China Air.
