The M Card gets 100 Baht off a pair of the nice loveseats at the back of most of the screens in Major so that's an advantage. The TG I used to see offered the M card each time and 500 vs. 600 Baht. For some of the movies she liked it was a good deal because they are really comfortable to snooze in and you get a blanket because despite being 30C on arrival they cool down to about 4C by the time the first reel is shown.

Soon you can fly on Etihad in their new super first class. Closed bedroom with double bed, sitting room, and private bath and shower only US$20,000 one way UAE to London. No flight attendant for you - instead you have a personal butler for the flight. On the 380 shortly. US$500,000 per suite to add to the 380, one per plane. Can't imagine they will not be met by Emirates with something similar. US$3,500 an hour and they are selling it on the comparison to the US$100,000 for a charter jet.

It's hard to tell what you are saying. Reducing by half to use would be redeeming at half the normal points required which would be a good thing. Reducing what you accumulate for flying would be a bad thing. Doubling, not halving the points needed would be bad. Did you mean they will double the points required? Highly unlikely. They have snuck up over the years but 100% at once, doubtful unless it is a particularly shitty airline. And reducing points to 1/2 per miles flown, across the board, that will never happen. They do limit miles earned on some cheapo fares but they have all always done that. Like O fares earning no points at all. Delta has started setting minimum spend to get elite status but the amounts are trivial, like $2500 for the first level and $10,000 for the highest, something like that. Again, trivial as the flights taken need to be numerous or a lot of distance flown and you still get the points, maybe not the status. Should you get highest level elite for managing 100,000 miles for $5,000? Probably not.

Topping up your 1 2 Call sim
Grandpollo replied to teelack's topic in Technical problems or questions.
If you have a credit card with Verified By Visa and can receive text messages where you are, obviously Thailand and others (I can receive AIS 1-2 SMS in Canada, Hong Kong as examples), you can refill online with a credit card. They send a SMS with a one time password. You use that to log in, add say 100 Baht for $3 or so, and then you're done. No fees and let's face it whatever the exchange rate amounts to for 100 Baht is immaterial. -
Mr. T has no problem to and from Bangkok downtown to /from Pattaya at the same price as from the airport. Late at night the traffic is even easier.

Bicycle as a primary method of transportation
Grandpollo replied to simplelife's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I ride a bike in bike lanes at home, but Pattaya, you'd need to be very careful. To and from main areas would be nuts, and sidewalks are missing or terrible anyway. For exercise on side sois it would be fine, like near RG the side sois off Thappraya are quiet and if you had a little map you could get a lot of time in. But Beach, 2nd , 3rd, South, Central, North Pattaya roads, suicide. -
I'm thinking it might make more sense to spend a bit more than $250 and get something with a bit more capacity. 9 amps sounds low for 220V. But if so, then that is not going to handle a compressor on a fridge when it starts up, I think. Computer and internet modem and a lamp or two and a fan maybe, better than darkness, sweating and nothing to watch.

Not quite a KLM flight when 5% is KLM and 95% is Air China.
-
For 220V 2500 W is only 12 amps, won't power very much. That's one circuit breaker, barely. For $250 each you can buy 10 of them if you have a house and a lot of gasoline.

A review of the Chow Soy rooms.
Grandpollo replied to firth1974's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Does it smell like Chinese food in the room? I'd think there is a vent hood chimney up there somewhere. -
An Ad blocker for Mac ?
Grandpollo replied to Fireman Sam's topic in Technical problems or questions.
Adblock Plus is a Firefox addon that does not really care what operating system you use as long as it's Firefox. You get a lot of bandwidth gain with NoScript as well, though it is a pain at first having to whitelist the sites you are OK with JavaScript. -
Sugar Hut. Thappraya Road just before the turnoff to Jomtien. If the girl in question is Thai she'll enjoy the amazingly good food. You eat in a open air or inside in a garden environment and it is not kill your budget expensive as well.

And the Thai tax authorities are apparently looking for this as the use of the house is a taxable benefit to the owner of the holding company and you wind up paying income tax for this virtual salary. The lawyer borrowed against the house is pretty preventable if the title is sound. Not sure how that would happen at all, actually.

Getting medical records from BPH
Grandpollo replied to nkped's topic in Doctors, Dentists, Clinics and Hospitals
Both the scan and X-ray are probably available. Get the DICOM software if you have a PC there. Quite fun to play around with especially if you convert to 3D. -

Grandpollo replied to nkped's topic in Doctors, Dentists, Clinics and Hospitals
Are you still there? Just go directly to the radiology department and pay for the DVD and they hand you one. All the hospitals do that. They can do films but since most doctors use the computer to scan through the scan anyway, vs. look at that big film with 200 little images on it, your doctor is likely to want the CD anyway. X-rays might be on film but they are usually on digital as well and a CD would be likely. Free to ask them at the hospital. Phyathai in Sriracha charged me about $3 for a CD with DICOM images (industry standard) of a head CT scan. It was ready by the time I came out of the neurologist office. The whole trip was 55 minutes from arrival to departure including the scan so the CD copy must have only taken a few minutes. There are free DICOM reader programs for Windows or Mac so you can view your own scan. They can convert the 2D images (each slice) into a 3D image you can rotate and look at from all different angles, which is cool. -
Not an old wives tale
Grandpollo replied to InternationalTraveler's topic in Doctors, Dentists, Clinics and Hospitals
You need a new (travel) doctor. Food poisoning in almost all cases is E.Coli. Cipro is the magic bullet. Three days is all you need. If it goes beyond that then see a physician. There is no "Thailand" exception. If she's a travel doctor she should keep up with the CDC who say clearly that Azithromycin is not subject to an agreed protocol for diarrhea (and since Cipro works and is safe and cheap, why bother?) That is just silly, to be honest. You will see regional antibiotic recommendations for Gonorrhea, or you used to when it became resistant to Cipro, and you will see specific anti-malaria prophylaxis for different parts of the world due to resistance to the treatment by the strains of Malaria. Azithromycin is not and has not been the drug of choice for E. Coli. Cipro is and is far less risky. It (Azithromycin) is used primarily for Chlamydia and in that case it is taken as a single 1000mg dose. Taking antibiotics incorrectly (and that means either the wrong one for the bacteria, or too much of any antibiotic) risks C. Difficle which is a horrible diarrhea that is very hard to treat, can be fatal and is usually avoidable. There are lots of other reasons for the shits when traveling, including drinking, stress, time zone adaptation, that go away promptly with no treatment at all. The best treatment is really fluids and rest. People on holidays don't want to wait, so Cipro taken responsibly, is usually a simple and safe treatment. What you would have experienced in the past is self-limiting diarrhea that was not helped by the (wrong) antibiotic. This is pretty common. In that case the Cipro is much safer and a lot cheaper, even if it too is unnecessary. If people get the trots a lot when travelling and eating food, there is an oral vaccine called Dukoral that reliably prevents E.Coli caused diarrhea and also provides complete immunization against Cholera, which is not a huge risk in Pattaya or much of Thailand. Did she ask if you had the complete Hepatitis vaccinations? A is prevalent from dirty food handling and B is prevalent from sex workers. Even if you have been, she should have asked or she's further negligent. -
Getting my first double visa in neighboring country, where to go?
Grandpollo replied to mataleo's topic in Expat Issues
It's hard to find a phone that cannot spell well enough. And none that would leave ybof. If that happens, then correct it yourself as advice is easier to render when words are readable. Good luck on the visa. Just don't make a big trip to a border country sick of back to back visas and come back with only 15 days when reentering. Fly to Siem Reap from the airport near Pattaya and back and there's 30 more days and a chance to see Siem Reap. -
Not an old wives tale
Grandpollo replied to InternationalTraveler's topic in Doctors, Dentists, Clinics and Hospitals
For simple E. Coli 500 mg. twice a day for 10 days is far too much Ciprofloxacin 500 mg one time as a loading dose, then twice a day for up to 3 total days by which it should have passed and if not see a doctor. If it is protozoal Cipro won't do a thing. Doctors can test the poop. Alternatives,( usually not necessary) could be TMP-SMX or Doxycycline. Stick to Cipro. Azithromycin does not yet have an accepted treatment regimen, risks C. Difficile and is almost never the drug of choice anyway. Keep it simple. Three days of CIpro. Lomotil is a controlled substance which is why you find Imodium everywhere and Lomotil in hospitals. It has atropine in it which can be of some risk for some people. It also has drug interactions with several drugs people may routinely take. -
Alcohol, sex and party on Pattaya beaches
Grandpollo replied to chouttoumatte's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
You guys don't like the Russians now so don't go to Pattaya and act like them. -
For someone already in Pattaya it makes no sense to e-mail. Go to Soi Diana and about 50 metres before the LK Metro entrance you will see his sign on the left side of the street, if you are heading away from 2nd road (towards Buoakow) Turn left, 10 metres, go in and arrange the ride.

Getting my first double visa in neighboring country, where to go?
Grandpollo replied to mataleo's topic in Expat Issues
He means Thai consulates in border countries are sometimes fed up with issuing back to back tourist visas, so you go to Laos and they say no. No visa, so you fly back and get 30 days on entry at the airport. If you only need 30 more days then why bother with a new visa at all? Note - It is easier to answer your questions if you write in English as well. Like don't write "difficult ybof" whatever that is. You can write whole words here and should try that. It isn't Twitter with 140 characters or SMS either. -
New name for the combined American Airlines and US Air Airlines
Grandpollo replied to short's topic in Airline Discussion
Since there are other airlines it can't be a monopoly. Even saying "airlines" means more than one and mono means one. -
I get the card from Cathay en route and when checking in to leave. If it is only 850 Baht I would not hesitate. Unless you are disabled the cart seems like fluff since you will ultimately beat your luggage by 15 minutes so what's the rush? Even priority luggage on CX takes 15 minutes from arrival. I've never entered or left via the non premium channel. Leaving is extremely fast. Security usually only 1 or 2 people ahead or often, zero.
